My oldest son is a General Manager in charge of a Chevron refinery. He said the only difference in the various brands is the additive package. My obvious question was who has the best additive package? He said Chevron and I asked if they were the best or only because he works for them. He said their labs are constantly testing various brands and comparing them and Chevron is #1. I asked who is #2 and he said Shell is.

The non Top Tier brands tend to meet government minimum standards and do not market their additive packages. Chevron/Texaco with Techron and Shell with their additives both heavily market their products.

Techron is the real deal. There are no Chevron stations in Detroit yet the Big 3 Auto manufacturers truck in Chevron fuel from Kentucky to conduct their EPA mandated emissions tests. Makes me believe that they expect better results by bringing a certain brand from so far away.

I usually choose BP. Only because when the bill came, for that disaster, they paid. And I had a diesel Jetta for a (SHORT) while.
Exxon, we avoid if possible for the opposite reason.

    Then Shell next.
I have not seen a Chevron that I can recall.

I might be that they can get the formula more closely maintained. Less variation of formula would get more consistent results. The common retail gas station probably has a much greater variation of the formula.

Ken, you are correct. Chevron/Texaco does not operate in all parts of the U.S.

I do know that they only have 4 refineries in the U.S. They are located in Richmond ( near San Francisco ) and El Segundo ( near Los Angeles ) California, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Pascagoula, Mississippi.

I suppose the logistics of delivering the fuel all across the U.S. would be prohibitive.

Rereading this I mean .. it may have been special order to a tighter, less variable formula.

I buy Sunoco because they purportedly do not buy crude oil from the Middle East and I like that; I don't need my transportation dollars going to fund terrorism. They weren't "Tier 1" for a long time because they didn't submit their fuel to be tested; I think Tier 1 was started by a couple of brands trying to make their products look superior, and Sunoco wasn't part of it. Now they're Tier 1.

It's funny though. I think our local quick stop (Wawa) is Tier 1 rated! Go figure.

Sounds like Wawa has specified an additive package which qualifies as Top Tier.

    Costco does the same thing..

My Polaris, Arctic Cat, Stihl dealer told me to use Chevron or Unocal/76 as I had a valve hanging up on my snow thrower a couple years ago. I usually put Chevron gas in my small engines and motorcycles, but didn't for some of my small engines about five years ago.

Send a little rain up this way. I think we've had one wet day in a month.
Normally wet enough to drown gophers, if we had any.

John 15:13 contains the words " greater love has no man than to lay down his life for his friends.....".

I deeply believe that this extends to all of our soldiers who fought for our freedoms.

As we observe D Day tomorrow, I hope each of us will pause and give thanks for those who sacrificed so much so that we can live the good life here in the U.S. We must remember that Fredom is not Free.

We need to constantly remind those who are constantly trying to revoke the freedoms that all the brave soles have been fighting for since 1776...

    Social Security .. SCAM

Been getting calls from similar, but not the same, numbers.
I finally answered one. They claimed to be SSA. Also claimed some sort of problem with my SS. Press one to speak to an agent.
I did. Foreign accent. "Social Security Administration".
As soon as I said WHO? I do not believe you!! .... They hung up.

I reported it to SSA Inspector General. They are aware of the number of reports of these fraud calls.

DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE.

The only reason I bring it up ... this one actually sounded authentic. I know better, but, I was curious. So I pressed "1".

I know there are enough people that fall for it to make it worth their time to do it.

We need to supprt legislation to control robodialing. IT IS ALREADY ILLEGAL. Why does the phone company(s) still let it happen????

There's activity in the robo-call wars. You should hear stuff about it soon. They just have to make sure they don't accidentally block the "free speach" political spam.

I have gotten the SSA as well as the IRS scam calls. I used to answer them and play with person (generally from India with piss poor English) by telling them I have a hearing issue and can they speak louder so I can understand them. They would finally get aggravated and hang up. Only to get more calls as time went on. I don't use or answer the house phone anymore. An elderly neighbor got scammed with the "Grandmom I was arrested and need bail money" scam. Cost her $2000.00. If you have any elderly neighbors, pass the word to them to beware of such calls. The Washington folks have finally put the word out to the phone companies to put the robo call blockers into effect at no cost to the consumer buttt sooner or later we will end up paying.
