I enjoy working on old homes. I've gutted & rebuilt 7. Our house proudly wears an award plaque by the front door. The reason I need a pro painter is I no longer get on long extension ladders.
After spending last summer in a wheelchair due to a fall it's time to call it quits on ladders.
Meanwhile my wife & I are transforming her former consignment storage bldg. into an upscale apt. Just trying to balance our projects with my part time handy guy biz.
We get most weekends off to relax (and plan our spending).

On the subject of doing it yourself or writing a check.

    Garbage Disposal starting leaking yesterday.
Called a handyman to get a price.

Disposal, plus labor, toss away the old one.

Sir down cause you are gonna fall otherwise........

    489.96......!

And he can't be here until Friday ..

So I went shooting IDPA at 8. Finished at noon in 102 degree heat, unloaded my gear, ate lunch, home depot.
    Disposal 100.74
    Wire nuts 1.38

    45 minutes later.

They say contractors try to stick it to seniors..but most of us are too savvy to put up with their shit. I'm lucky, my son is handy and always helps.

    Evening all:

It may come to that, all my buddy and I need to do is patrol Rt. 93 just North of us early in the morning, quite a few fresh ones there and we don't need to drag them far!

Worse yet, they seem to prey on senior women! :(

The good news I only snapped one old rope pulling the old disposal out .

And I can build a new cabinet to install the sink back in, once I finish picking up all the pieces of the old one....

I've found replacing disposal are pretty easy IF you did not have to lie on your back inside the cabinet to do it!!??

Luckily I have a great son who is a HVAC guy with his own fully licensed business on the side. He works for the government just to get the benefits and retirement. Great thing about those guys is they have to know plumbing and electrical besides the HVAC stuff. I can cover the electrical -- but need him for the HVAC stuff and I HATE plumbing!

Lying on my back was less the issue, more the blown meniscus in my left, making getting up n down challenging

Around here Saturday is a work day, and EVERYDAY is a Saturday! :D
Just got done running the weed wacker for about an hour, only 80 degrees outside and I'm soaking wet and a mess as usual, and there's a lot more to do.

    Good morning Susan, gang.
Back from a nearly three week road trip. 3200 miles of windshield time, backpacking, camping, camping lantern, stove, other fuel powered collecting. Found some sorta rare or unusual stuff. Hit Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Washington, base of Mt Rainier. Pretty hard on some of us.

    Go through the visitor center?
How far up did you hike?

    Ken,
Just went to Paradise to kill some time that day as I only camped outside the Park that day, a few miles from the CG inside where I stayed the night before, saved a few bucks, used my solar shower, Repo didnt have to stay on leash. No hiking up the Rainier trail since I had the dog. Tempted to eat there, but only got some stickers for my truck and bear can, a patch for the vest I have never found to put all my patches on.
