Four years ago I hit 66 and the outfit I was working for asked if I would mind moving up to Mesa, they were shutting down the office in Tucson and they needed a "senior" engineer there. The Phoenix area is basically another LA but without the ocean - no thanx. So I went for SS and some retirement due from an old employer. Lasted a few weeks and my Mrs flipped out - told me to "get a job" - anything will do..... So I wandered down the hill from my house and applied everywhere for anything that had NO travel time. Ended up in a whole different line of work for three more years (but only 8 minutes drive time!). She's still not too happy about this "retirement" either. I'm helping out part time at this last place - nice to have friends with a machine shop. I'm beginning to understand the troubles my dad had giving up his lifetime on the railroad.

Good morning, all!! Cold and soon-to-be rainy here in northeast PA today. Must be April. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!!!

Trying to navigate the college through these last few months has been ...interesting. Financially, we'll be OK - thought I'd end up burying the budget due to lost revenues and my commitment not to lay anyone off. The CARES Act solved that and is even allowing us to hire some part-time folks to work on projects we want to get done but don't have the staffing for. I'm happy to be able to get some folks extra income with all that's going on. I ended up the last 8 months of my Army Battalion command deploying the battalion from Germany to Bosnia in support of the UN Peacekeeping Operation there. Nothing like a high stress, threat-filled environment to keep you focused when you thought you were going to have smooth sailing. If I wasn't totally gray before I sure would be now.

Had this guy swoop past the den window and sit on our porch last evening overlooking the birdfeeder where'd made a kill a few days ago. Impressive.

I had a very similar situation Steve. Retired at 53 and the missus still working. After one week I was told I needed to get a job. Found one 2,5 miles away and put 12 more years in before leaving that one. Worked part time at a car dealership doing trades for another 3 years until the missus retired. It was hard giving it all up, but being able to do what you want, when you want and if you can do it with no money issues, retirement is wonderful. Everyday's a Saturday :D:thumbsup:

Morning folks. Great day yesterday. Walked almost 6 miles just to get in some exercise and get out of the house again. The missus joined me for 2 3/4 of those miles. Stay SAFE and be Well.

No kidding. My wife is pretty grumpy about no hair cut. I did NOT plan for this in my SHTF scenarios either. 17 different kinds of sparker fire starters. check. Water. Spam. Guns. Ammo. Dried berries. Soap. Lighters. Space blankets. Woolens. Etc Check check check.......

We have two electric cutters and various shears.

The messed up part really? Her hair looks perfect.

    Ugh.

Guess the small county I live in, here in Kalifornia, has had the most Covid19 tests per capita than any other county in the northern part of the state. No change to the four cases for over a week.
Had another nose bleed yesterday morning, delayed my trip to town by an hour, finally able to take a shower, then while drying off, it started again. Managed to stop it again, maybe I do need to see a Dr. Have not used Flonase in 10 days, so upset this continues.
Supposed to warm up soon, still freezing.

Sad day, a mountain lion came down and killed the neighbor's goats - 5 of hers and the stud she borrowed to do her girls... Just killed them and left. Glad the two babies from last year were at her friends as they are too young to breed. Found out from the DFS neighbor that there has been multiple sightings of big cats in the area north and west of us.

Gonna walk with the dog today.

Duane, not trying to tell you what to do but with frequent nose bleeds you should see a physician. 99% of nose bleeds are due to benign causes like dry air which drys the nasal membranes, (heated houses), blowing your nose hard, nasal sprays, picking ones nose, sinusitis, and on and on. There are some significant etiologies too. Hypertension poorly or uncontrolled, bleeding disorders, nasal polyps and tumors, certain medications like blood thinners, etc. Plus frequent significant bleeds can cause anemia which has its own set of potentially serious problems. It most likely something benign and insignificant and easily treatable but your bleeds should be evaluated. (Without giving details I speak from a medical background)

Had another bleed today. A PITA to negotiate the online appointment scheduler. Don't have much hope for them.

A couple a mile from me lost some goats last summer.
ER Doctor last week said my bleeding was likely from Flonase.

I had a mountain lion stalk me a few years ago. Was up around Sterling lake in the Tahoe National Forest. Hiked into a couple tiny mountain lakes to fly fish along with my lab. Heading back to camp just before dark about a 45 minute hike I noticed big mountain lion tracks over the top of some of my and my dogs prints. It had rained and the trail was a little muddy and was easy to spot the tracks. I thought oh s..t. Stopped and put my dog on a leash, didn’t want him messing with a mountain lion, drew my 44 mag and carried it in my hand all the way back to camp. (When I’m in the boonies I always carry a 44 or 357). I saw more tracks, the cat had followed us for a quarter mile or so. Sometimes on the trail sometimes off the trail. Thankfully I never did see it. It was a tense anxious walk, partly in the dark back to camp. At camp I started a camp fire and sat back with a glass of single malt, heart rate back to normal, life was good again.

    Afternoon everyone.

Back online after retrieving my laptop from the computer guru who's always trying to convince me to upgrade to something bigger/faster/better. I'm a retired electronics hardware engineer and understand what he's saying, but I'll give it a serious think before I make any moves.

Bought gas at COSTCO this morning for $1.29 a gallon. Not bad, but doesn't come close to the $0.19 a gallon I paid for premium at NAS Corpus Christi back in the early 70's.

My mom had a nosebleed last Friday night. EMT's came (they're in a senior living facility), couldn't stop the bleeding, took her to the hospital. They packed it and sent her home. It's still dripping. She needs to go back to the ER tomorrow to meet with an ENT who is going to do the necessary. Hopefully this will be her last trip there, because every she goes to the ER she and my dad need to be quarantined in her apartment for 14 days! The clock starts over every time they go back.
    Sorry Susan. :(

On the topic of haircuts, mine is just at the early Mao stage, next up Capt Kangaroo, followed shortly by the Bozo the Clown stage. At which point I will shave the whole damned cue ball except the back, and post pictures of my skullet.
