Oh there's a lot of open land but the elk herds in that area are small and dispersed. At least it is only archery season in September so the hunt compression will be light there. Here is a good web site to get some mapping for elk herd migration and other tips on where to look: https://cpw.state.co.us/

I have never hunted in the lower altitude or plains so I do not have much help for you on where to look for them - be adventurous but careful back in there. Right now most of the elk are at tree line or above (12,000 ft) due to warm weather. Last year we were chasing them at 10K and above in mid November - part of that was due to hunter compression. Have fun it will still be real warm during the day and very cool at night.

Good Morning folks. Happy Hump Day. Started to do laundry on Sunday and the washing machine faulted out (it's one of the new "need an engineering/IT degree to operate" machines) with an LF code which means it was taking to long to fill with water. Spent some time checking and resetting and still an issue. After following the manufactures troubleshooting steps I finally bit the bullet and checked the sales receipt and :yay: it is still under the one year parts and labor warranty :amen:. Only problem is they can't get out until next Friday. Technology does make life easier sometimes but can be costly if you have to pay for major parts.
Had a pretty good storm last night with a lot of lightning and thunder. Grass needed it. Have a good day all and be safe.

As a mechanical engineer I hate to admit this - but washing machines have always seemed to be "beginners work" for new grads. Full of soon to fail sensors and feeble plastic or pot metal parts. The manufacturers must not pay tech people very well......... When I moved to Lander, Wyoming I found that the city water pressure was way higher than the house in Ohio - we had a GE machine. It slowly blew every hose and connection, one by one, flood by flood. Ended up being re-plumbed with an assortment of automotive hose and clamps!

Sadly the days of legendary “Maytag” reliability are gone. Once all manufacturing moved off shore it wasn’t long until built in obsolescence and very short product lifespans became the norm.

Older machines that lasted decades limited profits. So designs and materials were downgraded. And all the while prices skyrocketed.

We bit the bullet and bought a Speed Queen washer, couple years ago. They're still built in Iowa somewhere. I know the appliance store owner, he says they have a standing order with the manufacturer, and a waiting list of cash buyers. We'll get the Speed Queen dryer too someday, and it will match. They rarely change anything. If it ain't btoke, don't fix it.
Can't seem to wear out our 30+ yr. old Maytag dryer. Thought it was a gonner a few weeks ago, started rattling. Popped the hood, was only a loose drum paddle screw. 3/8" SAE nut driver, and a drop of Loctite fixed it right up. When's the last time you saw SAE anything? Ah, the good old days..

We had a 17 year old Kenmore washer and also bought the matching dryer. Washer still ran okay but the missus didn't like the gearbox noise when she put 2 tons of clothes in. I explained to her about how much heavier clothes get when wet numerous times but it didn't sink in soooo we bit the bullet and got this washer because it had a bigger capacity(here we go again) so she can do 4 loads at once to save time . Some days I just want to take her to the creek and a couple of rocks and tell her "there you go". The dryer only had 1 issue and I repaired that(temp thermal cut out went bad.) and knock on wood it's been good ever since. Have a great day all and be safe.

So the Covid 19 is getting a little too close for comfort. Found out my next door neighbor had it and is now cleared to return to work, but he still doesn't feel 100%, so he's still at home where he has been quarantined. Was wondering why it was so quiet next door, since the whole family has been in quarantine.

Retirement plans were sure changed by Covid. Had a trip planned to Korea in April which was obviously cancelled, and wanted to go to Vegas. To add insult to injury, the damn fish aren't biting either!

    Stay safe my friends!

Good morning, all! I'm slowly settling into this retirement thingy. So far so good. We had a trip planned to Nova Scotia for early September - cancelled those reservations since the border is closed at least through August 21st. Hopefully our trip to Antigua in late October will still happen.

    Stay safe out there!!

Our 30+ year old hand-me-down Maytag washer started making death rattles a few years ago. We went shopping, asked friends for recommendations, etc. Everything being said here is in line with what we learned. The new LGs etc. with all of the electronics and other hoohah cost $thousands and last 5 years. Worse, people have come to think that's normal. So we found and bought a Speed Queen pair, the kind that still have dials that go click-click-click. No regrets.

Good morning folks . I found our next washing machine. The missus didn't think it was funny that I said we will get this style next.

Ringer washer.jpg It will be easier to maintain. Rained last night and it is raining again. Grass is finally getting green again (but it is also needing to be cut). Have a great day and be safe.

I actually had one of those as my first machine! Sat next to a concrete utility tub with two wells; we'd run the washer, wring the laundry into one tub of water, turn the wringer so it was between the tubs, and wring the laundry again into the next tub. Good times... not!

Speed Queen is still being made, and you can still get old school models. (I hope I'm not jinxing our washer!)

    Good morning all,

Love old school products - too many products relying on electronics with cheap parts these days. I still own most of my power tools from the 80's. Routers (2), Belt sanders (2), Table saw (1), disk sander, plainer, drills (3 electronic) radial alarm saw (1) chop box (1), skill saw (1 not the brand but a 6.5") the newer battery tools are better so I have five different drill/drive/impact types but they are not the off the shelf type - went with the higher end - my dad always said pay the extra money to get a better quality the first time or you will end up paying more in replacing tools over time. Obviously that statement has to add - do your research - now as more expensive does not mean better quality anymore.

Have a great day everyone - be safe - Col, like the fact you are settling in with the retirement life style -

I had a young engineer - this is many years ago - that wanted a washer and had no moola. He acquired all the junk he could carry off, from a local appliance store and built his own Frankenstein version in his basement. Marine 3/4 plywood housing, GE industrial manual controls (available at work), Speed Queen stainless tub, unknown transmission, totally whacko arrangement fueled by cheap beer and too many suggestions. It would wash - but had to be "watched".........

Good training project! Helps build ingenuity, thought processes. Bet it weighed a ton, hope he didn't have to move it out of the basement. haha

We're in for some rain in the next couple of days. Along with a damn hurricane.
Projected rainfall for my area is 8.5" hopefully the storm downgrades to a Tropical storm.
