    Hello to the group!
I am retiring in October also. I will be 62 1/2 with over 20 years in state government. Looking forward to finally have the time to get things done. I have always been a morning person. Up most days at 4 am. I don't think that will change any. Love drinking my coffee while the world is so quiet! I robbed the cradle so will have to wait a few more years before the wife can retire too. Will keep busy till then and hopefully we can travel in the winters after that. Will be reading this thread daily going forward.

Welcome to the thread and (soon) to the retired crowd. I just retired for good on July 1st so I'm settling into the routine...or lack of a routine. Also an early riser o you'll see me here - I typically am up by 4 and enjoy the coffee and quiet times as well.

Grab a rocker on the porch and a cold one from the cooler. Oh, and the new folks have to fill the cooler when they join us. :D

Welcome to the porch Phil . When I retired I was in the same situation with the missus still working. To keep myself occupied I took a driving job with a local dealership and it 1{and most important}) kept me out of trouble:). 2) gave me some pocket change to buy a coffee or lunch now and again and 3) being able to still interact with other folks while traveling around. Now that the missus is retired, we try to travel as much as possible and enjoy life. Life is good.

Good morning all, welcome Phil @Mpham

Ahh 46 degrees this morning at 0530 walking the boys then taking out the puppy. Still experiencing the afternoon thunder-boomers but they are not as violent.

Have a great day everyone and do be safe out there

We also travel a bunch. So far for this year we cancelled 3 cruises (an Alaska cruise, a Caribbean cruise and a Panama Canal cruise). Plus we cancelled a trip to Vegas, a trip to Palm Desert and a trip somewhere else I don’t recall. We did make a trip to Pennsylvania first part of March just before everything shut down. And a couple weeks ago we drove to Southern Utah to visit good friends who we see very year. While there visited Bryce Canyon National Park, amazing views and rock formations. Made the trip in 12 hours each way.
One last thing for those of you who haven’t driven the wide open spaces of the west You can’t imagine what it’s like. When we pulled out of Tonopah Nevada after getting gas the sign said - “no gas next 168 miles”. And those 168 miles there was nothing, no towns, no houses, no buildings, nothing. And on highway 50 (known as the loneliest highway in America) we’ve gone up to 30 minutes and longer with out seeing another vehicle in either direction. I actually enjoy it but you definitely don’t want to break down out there.
Anyway the Covid thing has put a crimp in our travel.

    My part B starts 9/1

Made it to Michigan in record time 9 hours 15 minutes. Avoided one collision and had numerous drivers pass me pull in front of me and slow down. Aggravating!

we have cancelled one trip but rebooked it for next year. Still Have to cancel two more trips.

Glad you made it safe and sound Tom. Be careful because too many inconsiderate drivers out there.

I hope you prove your oncologist way wrong. Enjoy a long and happy retirement. Don’t put off doing the things you really want to do. Just do it.

Went for a bike ride out to Cabrio National Mounument today and asked the the Ranger for the yearly pass for 35.00. She said that they have a pass good for ALL the National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands for 85.00. I said why not, when she looked at my ID, She said for Senors, it's only 20 bucks, I replied Great! One of the perks for getting to the finish line.

My wife and I picked up those lifetime senior passes a few years back. We've used them quite a few times. Significant savings at some places.
