Mark, if you want to dive into the charcoal world of grilling at an affordable price the Weber kettle is a great option. S and S also has a kettle grill that is affordable.

Is it really BBQ/grilling if you used gas?

YES! I’ve been BBQing/grilling since I was a teen and that’s along time. I’ve grilled extensively with both gas and charcoal. I currently have a high end Webber gas grill and a Webber charcoal grill. I also have a stand alone smoker. You can’t tell which grill I used based on taste. The key to success with a gas grill is having a quality grill that has even heat distribution, searing burners and has a smoker box for smoky flavor. Yes many say that you may get a slightly better taste from charcoal grilling and I’m kind of on the fence on that. But if you have a quality gas grill and you know what you are doing the difference is negligible. Most of the great steak houses across the country use gas so if there was much difference in taste I doubt they’d use gas. I still like charcoal because that’s what I started out with. But you can’t beat the ease and convenience of gas.
Pros of charcoal are hotter heat and taste. Again if tastier it’s negligible. Pros of gas are ease and convenience, less mess, great heat control just like a stove.
I can’t say why exactly but I prefer steak done over charcoal. Most everything else I’ll take gas. If you want the best flavor of all then you need to cook with wood fuel, specifically hard wood like oak or hickory. Now you are talking great flavor. You can use your charcoal grill to cook with wood which is a great advantage.
One last thing (I’ve rambled on more than I planned), my personal opinion the best most flavor producing wood chips are
Jack Daniels Whiskey Barrel Smoke Chips. They are made from JD Whiskey barrels that whiskey was aged in. A glass of JD may help the grilling process but I prefer Buffalo Trace Whiskey.

Agree with everything you say -- I have recently had to switch to a little Weber charcoal while my Nat. gas weber is disconnected while building a new deck. I want to say the charcoal is better -- but I am not convinced . I also use smoke boxes in my Weber gas

The short answer is yes. I prefer the flexibility of grilling with charcoal and the higher temps you can obtain. As with any cooking tool the more you use the tool the better you become. I knew that yesterdays cook was going to generate a lot of grease so I tried to lessen the mess by covering four of the five flavorizer bars with foil and it worked for me. Enclosed are a few pics.

Mark, I don't know if people are getting paid different than before, but for quite a few years Thursdays and Fridays seem to be almost as bad as weekends when it comes to shoppers.

Hello again 60's folks! We got power back yesterday, after about 55 hours' outage. A lot of trees down around here. The wind wasn't huge but we had 4" to 7" of rain last Saturday and another 7" from Iseiaisisisais or whatever it was, and the ground was just saturated. Storm was gone by mid-afternoon Tuesday but rivers and streams didn't hit peak levels until nearly midnight. Still plenty of folks around here without power.

    2020. Sheesh. o_O

Good Morning folks. Had an exciting day yesterday...the missus and I went to the Dermatologist WOHOO. Had a spot burned off my face and the wife had one cut off and sent out to the lab. This is paying for my indiscretions of my youth. Have a good Friday. And enjoy the weekend.

Keep those dermatology appointments! I lost an uncle to skin cancer. He had something on his back, ignored it too long.

Good morning all - you know TGIF does not fit our age group anymore - AND that is a GOOD thing.

Here are a few pics of some neighbors walking through while having coffee and monitoring the two Golden's rough housing on the deck:

Those are beautiful trophy bucks, great pics. I no longer deer hunt (age and back problems) so now I just look at them as beautiful animals. God’s beautiful creations in Gods beautiful country. Keep them photos coming.

Wif has carpet steamers here this AM - every bit of furniture has to move in the effected rooms. An Aleve weekend ahead! Wish I could afford total conversion to tile. Thirty years ago I would have tried it myself.
It is amazing to me how much dust we have here - and how easily it gets into the house. The mining machines I worked on and in nearly all my life, have intake air filter systems - and then are pressurized to about 1/4 inch of water. They don't totally defeat the problem - but it seems to be better than this house!
Engineers I work with have been talking about how to build future everyday sanitization systems for houses and businesses. One idea - use the setup airlines are experimenting with - light based. Put a unit on the ceiling (every room) and program it to come on at 3:00AM and no bodies detected? We have smoke detectors, why not some other attachments.

Yea, I haven't hunted deer since growing up in Wisconsin but I do elk hunt (cow only) for the meet - not into the trophy but really enjoy the meat so once a year I traipse through the high country chasing them - some years I get lucky but most - not so much - that is why they call it hunting.

And I agree - deer, elk, moose, mtn lions, bobcats and even the bears are all beautiful animals and I love watching and photographing them. Still trying to photograph our current black bear - somehow he is constantly alluding my field cameras - tricky guy

Maybe more folks are adopting the way I did things years ago. I took most of my vacation time on fridays and mondays to avoid the traveling crowds. Guess that doesn't work now.

This is why I do not hunt the deer here - my wife the deer whisperer would shoot me. And yes, if the CO Wildlife rangers saw this we would be in a world of hurt - but they come to her when she calls them.

This is from several years ago - we now have a patio and retaining wall where the deer are standing - the one close to here was born on our driveway - first time I witnessed that up close and personal - now it happens all the time here - we are their sanctuary.
