Working on repair of 450T press - upper beam fractured. Got new plates cut and wound exposed. Bevels cut and now grinding for close fit and welding in the back-up bars. It was 111 deg here yesterday and after about 10 AM progress is slow. At least it isn't -30 or -40 like Wyoming!

And I thought I was done with this sort of stuff!

Hello all - great news this morning . My expert carpenter is set to cone back Monday to finish up our new deck. I am always correcting myself - I say the carpenter is helping me build it --nooo - I am helping him as the go-fer. G-fer this, then that --mostly I gofer the checkbook. It is decked with Fiberon Symetry decking in Warm Sienna then will have a black powder-coated custom aluminum rail added lastly. I replaced a 35yo redwood deck with this new one -expanded it by 32 sq.ft and replaced the old framework with 2x10s instead of the 2x8 that were under it. I will get some picts up soon.
The new decking is a 95% composite with a 50 year warranty. It is the encapsulated type (coated on all 4 sides). framing is the treated yellow pine that has been sealed /stained with Cabot solid color acrylic wood stain.

Happy any day you want it to be to the retirees, and happy Friday to those still working and paying into social security. 109 degrees today in beautiful Elk Grove California. Going to be 105 and higher for the next week. All outdoor activities are either done early in the morning or cancelled.
Tonight is movie night. About every 4 to 6 weeks we have movie night and dinner with our close friends who are also neighbors. We trade off doing this. Tonight I’m making a very special and delicious prawn curry dish served over rice along with ambrosia fruit salad on the side. Strawberry shortcake for dessert. And of course a little wine.
We do all different genres of movies and old and recent. Tonight’s is from 1987 - La Bamba, about Ritchie Valens who became an overnight rock and roll star and was killed in the plane crash that took Buddy Holly.
    Stay cool and be safe.

I am hanging a chicken in the WSM this afternoon. Doing a low and slow cook. Put the chicken in a brine at 08:00 this morning. Taking it out of the brine and applying a chicken rub around 1:30 and putting it in the WSM around 2:30. I will post up some pics.

Good evening. Haven't hit the big six-0 yet, but starting to scare it pretty good. I don’t drink alcohol but I'll drop a 12 pack of ice tea in the cooler now and again.

My wif's sister is due back to teach school (in Florida) today...... and to hear her voice, she is pretty shook up. They have had terrible sanitation in the best of times, this of course is not even close to the same. For supplies she was given a single bottle of antiseptic cleaner and told to do "the best she could". She may just end up retiring. She expects that the kids will soon be sick and taking it home to the adults.

If the limited Covid 19 history is correct expect a lot more cases when schools open up this September. The problem will be worse in Middle and High Schools because the greater number of students that come in contact with an individual student every day. My wife had already planned on retiring when Covid 19 happened. She did teach 1/2 an algabra class for incoming freshmen this summer. she was able to do that from home. Your sister will be in my prayers.

    Morning all:
Interesting times since Covid 19, don't know what the answer is, but we can't just shut the entire country down and wait/hope for it to go away.
Seems like there are varying versions of it, those that have Covid with no symptoms, those with mild symptoms, those who require short hospitalization, and those who have the severe life threatening versions of it.
Even with a vaccine, if anything like the flu, you can still get it, but it may protect you from getting the severe life threatening version of it, that doesn't mean that it's gone, just that maybe not as many people will die from it.
Looks like the CDC is still grabbing straws on this, now they are saying that it can spread 16' when airborne, not the 6' social distancing that's been widely accepted.
Hopefully everyone can stay safe, there's no magic wand at the moment that will make it just disappear.

A belated welcome to the newcomers, welcome to the porch!
