Good morning all. Last Monday my elk hunting partner and I headed out to Carbondale to scout the effects of the fires on the elk migration (we hunt GMU 43 - third rifle - here). Took my Taco off road in some interesting areas, first real time on FS roads and trails up in the high country - handled really well. We did find a few areas we are going to work come season and hoping we get snow before then. The smoke and temps were pretty harsh, the smoke made it hard to breath (especially climbing above 10K) and the temps were 15-20 degrees over normal. Very dry, we hiked over 60 miles this paste week, averaged over 15 miles a day climbing and descending different trails (animal - bush waking).

Have a great weekend, need to clean the Taco inside and out - and clean the air filter - trail dust.

Good morning, everyone!! spent some time picking up leaves trying to keep ahead of it - put them in Lynn's garden to mulch. Then I washed and detail waxed the truck. Today? Nada. Have a great one!!!

Thank you. My parents put up with a heck of a lot from me when I was young! So I owe them. Plus they are the best grandparents and great-grandparents any kid could want. They deserve all the care I can give in return.

I want to stress that I'm not really looking for sympathy. Ilike to think that I'm posting my experiences so that maybe they will help someone else through a tough time; but the truth is probably more that it just feels good to tell somebody about it. So thanks to you all as well.

Dad wants to do something for his 4 grandchildren before he goes. They have a new-ish Honda CRV that's barely been driven; mom doesn't drive anymore and now dad can't drive either, so they decided to sell it. Then we'll split up the proceeds and send checks to the grandkids. If all goes according to plan that should happen today. You'd be amazed what a 5 year old CRV is worth! It's almost like a Tacoma in terms of holding value.

No sympathy from me. My dad battled Alzheimer's for 6 years. I understand what you are going through. I always looked at the disease as a teaching tool from my dad. We never stop learning in life if we only take the time to slow down and observe what is happening in our lives.

Does anyone else prep their vehicles for the winter? Not a Tacoma but the Avalon is cleaned up with one coat of Fuzion wax. Going to apply a second coat tomorrow. I have found that two coats of Fuzion will protect the paint for the winter months. Our vehicles are garage kept and the wax will last an honest 6 months. On Tuesday I might add a third coat using Pinnacle Souveran. I like the brilliant shine that Pinnacle provides but it only lasts about 2 months. 20201011_115005.jpg

    Afternoon all:
I usually wax the truck before winter, as a matter of fact I just did it about 2 weeks ago. THEN, I drove through an area where they were line painting, little yellow spots of paint all over the truck that pop right off, think the new coat of wax helped!

This is a busy forum. I looked for several minutes for the post I made earlier responding to Devious6 regarding indicated mpg. Didn't find it.

I replaced my '09 4 banger, MT Tacoma with a new SR5 with auto a while back. I keep a book tracking gas purchases and indicated mpg. Did a quick comparison of the calculated mileage and the indicated mpg. It looks like Toyota got it right with the new ones. My experience with others was that the indicated mpg was 6 or so % high. My calculations showed the indicated mileage was right on for most fillups, and low for one.

This one is running around 22 mpg in mostly mountain driving. I guess that is not bad, but it pales in comparison with the 25.1 that the old one got.

Good morning, all! Raining today - hopefully we'll get some steady rain throughout the day. We really need it.

I washed and detail waxed the Tacoma and Lynn's Outback on Saturday. It will be time to put the plows on the ATV and UTV soon. Ugh.

    Be safe out there!!

Up at 05:30 today to put a second coat of Fuzion on the Avalon. Wife is going to get a haircut today and it is raining out. We leave for Michigan on Wednesday.

Seems the surest way to make it rain is to wash and wax your truck!
    Have a great day everyone!

    Morning all:
 I used to think that also when I got the "66" Chevy, I think I could have taken it to the Sahara Desert where it didn't rain for 50 years, washed it, and it would be pouring in minutes!

I knew the rain was coming but ZI did not find out till last night my wife needed the car today. At least I have two coats of the Fuzion applied to the paint. I should be OK till spring time.

I use Jet Seal from Chemical guys in the fall before winter. They say it offers protection for up to a year.

You have to be the judge of that with your experience using the product. I have never used Chemical guys products. The products I use get me through the winter and my vehicles are garage kept all year. Like the man says "Find a product you like and keep using it".

The smoke haze here is much reduced. Last night we could see Orion and other constellations a lot more clearly than in past weeks. Inside the ring of mountains, Tucson has gotten steadily "brighter" at night - which ruins the celestial viewing.

At our home In Wyoming, the Milky Way was a bright band in the sky - here, not so much.

    Morning all:
Went to go for some groceries and the store was closed for covid cleanup, rumor is that the owners son worked there one day and tested positive later on.
He may have been exposed at the store or someplace else, but the owner requires masks to be worn and every time I have been in there everyone does have a mask on. The owner is as careful as anyone could be when it comes to corona, guess that just proves that no matter what precautions you take there is no 100% guarantee that it won't show up eventually.
