    Afternoon all:
Got the fuel pump recall done this morning, hopefully "the fix" took care of whatever problem they were having with them.

GEEZ, just saw where a 17 yr. old NC hunter died after he fell out of a 10' tree stand and was impaled by his rifle barrel. I know that guys are injured and some die from falling out of tree stands, but that's something I never heard of before.

I thought the same, what are the odds of that happening, it's bad enough to fall out of the stand let alone get impaled by the rifle barrel.
The article said he did manage to call someone, but by the time help got there it was too late.

I transplanted a Rosemary plant from a pot to my small vegetable garden today. I am hoping it will survive the winter. I plan on covering it with a burlap sack this weekend.

Some of us may need more than one garage to accomplish that. :anonymous:

I took the day off tomorrow. Supposed to be nice. Maybe I’ll make it a me day. Haven’t had one in quite a while.

The thought of what happened sickens and saddens me. Prayers to his family and loved ones. I have no idea of how it happened. It was probably a completely freakish accident. As a former hunter safety instructor I know that each type of hunting has its own set of dangers but there are safety rules and guidelines that if practiced will prevent 99.999% of all hunting injuries and deaths. All you hunters out there please be safe. The following are 10 deer stand safety tips I copied from the net but I use to preach these same safety rules when I was instructing. They are all important but #2 is of the utmost . Hunt safe my friends.

Tip 1: Be sure to select the proper tree before hanging a fixed-position stand or using a climbing stand. The tree should be alive and healthy without any noticeable rot or damage. Your tree should also meet the size specifications and restrictions set by the tree stand company.

Tip 2: NEVER hunt from a tree stand without a secure and high-quality safety harness. It only takes one fall to suffer a serious injury or permanently end your hunting career.

Tip 3: A strong and sturdy safety rope (or strap) should be attached to both your harness and the tree to prevent you from falling more than 12-inches.

Tip 4: Continuously monitor and inspect your safety harness and tree stands before and during the season to check for wear and tear or possible damage.

Tip 5: When hunting from a fixed position or hang-on stand always inspect the ladder steps and tree stand attachments to make sure everything is tightly secured to the tree.

Tip 6: Always use a haul line to pull-up your gear, bow or unloaded firearm. Never climb with anything in your hands or attached to your back. Before climbing down, utilize the haul line to safely lower all of your equipment on the opposite side of the tree.

Tip 7: Be sure to let family and friends know the exact tree stand location that you’re currently hunting. When at all possible, hunt with a buddy and always carry a communication device like a cell-phone or walkie-talkie that can easily be reached on your body at anytime.

Tip 8: Follow the 3-Point rule, which says always have 3-points of contact to your steps or ladder when climbing or descending from your stand.

Tip 9: Be aware of slippery and hazardous climbing conditions that may result from rain, sleet, snow or ice and take the appropriate precautions.

Tip 10: When using a climbing stand, make slow, steady and even movements of no more than 12 inches at a time. You should also make sure the climbing section and platform of your stand are attached together by some type of safety cord or rope.

Rosemary is pretty tough. I always have a pot for the wife, but she planted a few around the birdbath that are almost bush size! Freezes don't seem to bother them. Every once in a while, one dies, the other doesn't. When they are that big, they have some roots!

Yep rosemary are darn tough plants. Nothing seems to bother them. Neither frost nor copious amounts of dog pee have any effect. My dog often rubs up against the rosemary and he smells like he put rosemary cologne on. He smells great. The plant I use for cooking is in a place that the dog can’t water it.

Good calendar system that! There's only three kinds of days...

    • Weekday (all those other people work, differentiated only by a favorite show)
    • Weekday with errands or appointments (as above, but we have Doctors and such that love to see us)
    • Weekend

Good Morning PA folks. Sun is out but still a bit chilly. The missus and I are heading upstate to the farm tomorrow for our annual Thanksgiving weekend. Hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving and be safe.

Thanks for posting Ken(@Sprig ). Very good rules to follow. Sometimes when we do some things a lot, we have a tendency to get a bit lax with safety. Be safe and careful out there guys.

A little fun while errand running. Not a major milestone, but when errands are 5 miles a trip in town, I have to get to my suburbs. Like San Marcos, and New Braunfels.

    Evening all:
Just getting broken in Kurt! :D

Just read about another hunting accident! :(
Two brothers, 14 and 19 yrs. old were loading a deer onto the truck with a loaded rifle leaning up against the truck. The rifle slid off and discharged hitting both of them, the 14 yr. old died from the injuries he sustained and the brother survived with a shoulder wound, a big NO NO that caused a fatality to a young hunter and serious injury to another.

    :bananadance: :yay::woot: DOW 30,000!
It may take me awhile to catch up to Jeff Bezos and Elan Musk though!!!!

I know right?!? My company stock jumped up again today!

I work for "a major cable provider" as they say on Wheel of Fortune. Among the bennies is the opportunity to buy stock in the company at a discount. I'm not one to pass up a discount on much of anything :) so I've been taking part in it for the entire time I've worked there.

Part Two. My grandkids live two thousand miles away, so I don't get to spend a lot of time with them and slather them with gifts every birthday/holiday, like the 'other' grandparents do. I'll be honest, it bugged me. So I opened a "Uniform Trust for Minors Account" (UTMA) for each of them, then transferred some of those cheap-ish shares into the accounts at birthday/holiday time. All these years later and WOW, those kids have a nice little boost for whatever it is they decide to do with their young lives.

If you have the chance to do something similar I really recommend it. I didn't really notice the few $ going >there> instead of <here< over the years, and the result is something that can change a life. I sure wish someone had done it for me.

    • The DOW closed over 30,000 and our investment portfolio is looking great. We’ve made a boatload over the last couple years. But remember what goes up always comes down, repeat always comes down. Most people 60 and over would be in a world of hurt if the market took a hit of 40 or 50%. It generally takes several years to recover and some of us mature folks can’t wait a bunch of years for recovery. Remember the recession of 2008, it took 8 or 9 years to recover. So it’s a good idea to keep close contact with your financial advisor and DIVERSIFY. In the mean time let’s enjoy the ride.
