Good morning, everyone! We're supposed to get rain tomorrow - and still need it badly. Our large pond is still below the level where it drains into the adjacent stream. It is fed by underground springs that have just been tapped out due to the lack of rain.

We put up the artificial tree yesterday and decorated the interior of the house. Also put up the outside decorations but we don't do much because no one sees them but us...and I am not climbing along our roof lines anymore.

Lynn and I had our traditional Saturday evening after Thanksgiving meal last night - how we deal with the leftovers. We affectionately call it Pile. Alternatively, you could use the French word to make it sound a little more classy - Pile, pronounced the same as in English...but it's French, you know. We make it with the Thanksgiving leftovers.

Line a baking dish with leftover stuffing. Then layer in mashed potatoes, turkey, corn, or whatever leftovers you have. Put a layer of stuffing over the top and bake until warm. Slice and add that leftover gravy. Perfection!!

There's an ad running on TV, says their car's range is 520 miles on a 2hr. charge. You could test it by driving 260 miles out and praying you make it back. Oh and, discharging the battery completely will damage it. IDK what make it was, not interested in pie in the sky ads.

Kids had a battery car when they were small. I would supervise, noticed it tended to overheat, I trashed it.

Yes , and its a plug in car. Electric cars should generate their own electricity. You shouldn't have to plug them in. Then when something happens to the battery pack you're gonna be at the bank to get a loan for that. What do you do in an emergency. Hang on I'll get you to the hospital as soon as my car charges in an hour ?

Seems counter-productive somehow. What we need are enough quick-change battery stations, with a big "2 min. or it's free." sign.

    No.
As your Slowing down, you don’t need power. So regen braking uses the momentum of the car to turn the motors and charge the battery as you slow down. That’s why brakes can last 100,000 miles if drivin in regen brake mode on decell.

batteries need outside force to charge.
Laws of physics and electrical gobbledegook and all that stuff.

We won’t see it, maybe our grandkids won’t but, electric is going to be dominant
    down the road.

Good morning folks. Hope you are having a great weekeend.

On electric cars, when I drove for the Nissan dealer, I had the oppurtunity to drive the Leaf. Fun little car to drive. Had a range of 150 to 200 miles per charge. It had 3 drive modes, economy, normal and sport. In economy it couldn't get out of it's own way. In sport it was a beast. If it had sound effects you would swear it was a muscle car. It had regen braking which at the time did put a minimal charge back in the battery for more mileage but not enough to fully charge the battery. The problem is cost of owning. Battery replacement, electronic components like the MDU and of course techs that know how to troubleshoot and repair them.
    Personally, I'll stick with gas.

Had our Saturday night fire to wind down the weekend.

    Have a great day folks.

    Morning all:
Looks like electric vehicles will be the future transportation mode down the road. California passed a law where "ALL" new vehicles sold in the state after 2035 must be electric. You can still buy a used gas powered vehicle, but wonder what the price of gas will be if they want them off the road!
    Face it, times are changing!

A little something every chance we get.
    Nice fire....
While we're throwing electric cars on it.... eldest son drove their Tesla S from TX to DE with no issues of finding a charger or issues period. That was 3 years ago. Car & Driver just drove an electric VW coast to coast. There were chargers everywhere, mostly at WalMarts!
Or, go halfway and Hybrid. We do. Son #2 is on his second, a 2012. The 2005 Previous was bought used at 95K miles; his first car, and the only reason he even wanted to drive. Made the wife get one when she had a 40+ mile commute - liked it so much I got one. Then, I got a Prius 3 Touring! Touch a button - smoke the fronts! These all get 50 mpg or more easy. Then, I tried a KIA Niro, which was a great lease, but lousy dealers. Our LAST (?) Hybrid is the RAV4 Touring in the drive.
Pile....hmmm. Might just do that with the last batch tonight!
Finally an Inch and a quarter all day and night yesterday!
    Good Morning Porch!

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) ran an article a few years ago that pointed out the electrical grid was inadequate for everyone to have an electric car. I wonder if that has changed...

Eureka! You've just come up with the Perpetual Motion Machine!!!

I could see using an electric car for everything except very long trips. An electric with a few hundred miles' range would serve 95% of my needs. I even wired our new garage with high voltage outlets, just in case. My problem is that I really, really, *really* enjoy driving, and I also really enjoy the sound of internal combustion engines. So while an electric car might serve my NEEDS, I've yet to see one -- in my price range! -- that would also serve my WANTS! :p

Probably not. Hasn't been much infrastructure spending since the early Obama years, and that was way much smaller than it should have been.

My nephew bought a new Tesla and I installed a 220v charging outlet in his garage. The 110V charging option get him 3 miles to an hour of charge. The 220v gits him 33 miles per hour of charge. 480V three phase charging only takes about 45 minutes for a full charge. Unfortunately most residential homes only have 220V 2 phase.

As others have said the problem is the distribution system, not enough charging stations. The other problem is right now gasoline is the safest fueling system for cars with a 100 year infrastructure development.

Within 1 mile from my house there are 4 of the 480V recharging stations. All are located in shopping centers. Charging stations need to be installed at rest areas on the interstate highways.

The Tesla business model for opening the full capabilities of the cars battery really inhales vast quantities of air. So does attempting to salvage a Tesla or upgrading to a 2 motor car.

Which is what the early hybrid did. The plug in idea was just to make folks feel better about the power source. Fools don't realize they are still burning fossil fuel to power their cars, for the most part.
