I believe I've been down here too long now to tolerate the chill I dealt with before. Living in Lander and Casper, Wyoming made us pretty familiar with wind, snow and cold - but my wif says its been summer here, ever since we arrived in 2001. Lander was usually good for a heavy snow fall before September was over (even if it melted) - traditional ice storm for Halloween in Casper made our walk and front step a nightmare. December 1 is the usual day to fire up the furnace here in Tucson......

The other rule for Casper - always snows for Easter.

Good Morning folks. A bit windy out and chilly here today but no snow(yet).

We turn everything off Tom, the place has been in the family for 50 years and every year after hunting season or Thanksgiving we close it down for the winter. The only source of heat is a small propane heater mounted on the living room wall that takes a good day and a half to heat the house in the spring and fall. We could get a bigger heater if we used the place in the winter.

Gets cold upstate and with no heat on, the residual water in the tank and bowl like to freeze. The anyi freeze is just a precaution. It's RV tank anti freeze so it is supposed to be safe for the environment. We hate going up in the spring and having to do plumbing repair work before we turn the water on.

Morning all... 47 here in Huntington Beach, with a high of 68.

I grew up in upstate NY so I don't consider this cold! I do enjoy the southern CA weather (most of the time) do miss the snow sometimes. No pipes freezing here and feel for those that have to deal with it!

    Stay safe and healthy!

Morning all from the porch in beautiful Northern California. No rain, no snow, mild temps. No rain in the long term forecast. Problem is it’s looking like we are back in a drought pattern. We'll take all the rain and snow you can send us.
Going to spend the day reading and familiarizing myself with the owners manual for our new car. We bought a new Toyota Highlander. We’ve actually had it for over a month. It’s all new and upgraded for 2020. It’s got more gadgets and electronics that I never knew existed. Most of it is beyond me. Probably take me 6 months to comprehend what it’s got and how to work it. I’ve had some very nice cars but this is the nicest.
    Happy Saturday all, be safe.

That appears to be the big selling point in new cars these days. What engine? Yes it has one of those. Transmission? Ditto. Braking capacity? I dunno, it stops. Apple Carplay -- which version, how big are the icons, does it do blah blah with yada yada?

Happy December everyone, and welcome to the new folks on the "old farts" thread.

Antifreeze in the toilet tank?:eek::eek: Not in South Texas!

Wife was complaining this morning about being cold last night and shivering. It only bottomed out at 31*.

I calmly explained to her that she was probably just having a bad dream ..... a dream where she was reincarnated as a cell phone and received a phone call while in VIBRATE mode. That didn't work well. I'll have to come up with something better next time.

    Tex

I think it may have gotten to 69* last night!

They say that one of the most boring jobs here is being a weather reporter. BUT... surfs up to around 30' today.

Ken : My SIL turns the heat down to 45 at the cottage. She has a flashing light that is put in the window that flashes if the temp drops below 45. She has a service that drives by to check and make sure the light is not flashing. Great way to make extra revenue in a small resort town.

    Evening folks.

Sounds like a good job Tom. Only drawback for us is our place is in farm country and our nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile away. Would spend more time and money on gas making the rounds then the job would pay...

I did Medicare last year, and had an agent help me. This year, I just used the Medicare.gov site, and the only issue was it was too simple. Signing up for SS#; it too was far easier than my mind would let it be. Register for a "myssa" account, and you can get 99% of everything on line!

Good morning everyone!! A balmy 22F here this morning heading into the low 40s. We had about an inch of snow yesterday morning but it was gone by early afternoon. The western side of the State got as much as 9" in places.

Had to make an unplanned call to our doctor yesterday morning, which led to a quick appointment, which led to me taking 2250mg a day of two different antibiotics for the next week. Spent the day on the couch...probably do the same today. The worst part is that I can't even have a glass of bourbon to kill the pain.

    Stay safe out there!!
