Morning Rob...It will be tough saying goodby to the kids and grandkids...hopefully you and Kristi can make plans to see them more often...the tornados were horrific and prayers are going out to all the people involved...just read the little girl they found in the field has passed on, broke my heart...such a fragile little life cut short by a natural tragedy...but what really cranks me up is the fact that no other country in the world has offered any help like we always do when they have a tragedy...have a good day and enjoy the kids Rob...Ken

Glad to read that the visit is going well. Nice to get away for a while.

As far as the blonds go it seems that all news programs are now entertainment and you cannot sell it without a size 4 blond with the bigga da booms booms reading to us.

Nope, work has actually been pretty slow. But that's okay...I keep trying to convince people that I'm semi-retired and maybe they're finally starting to listen. I've given away as much work as I've taken this winter and I'm really starting to key in on that. It's nice to sit home by the fire on those stormy wind blown days and let the younger guys have all the adventures.

This time of the year there are meetings to go to. Safety meetings, planning sessions, all the usual stuff we go through every year before the busy season hits. Today we had what I call The Annual Be Good Or Else Meeting. Various big wigs spent the morning complaining about how much we cost, demanding that we do more with less, implying that the entire industry will collapse if we don't, and reminding us that we can be replaced.

Yawn...same thing every year. Different faces, different voices, but the same message.

The donuts were good though. Somebody obviously slipped up and bought fresh instead of day old. He'll probably get demoted. :D

    :wave:Good morning!

And hello Bob, don't think we've met; my name is Rob...not officially qualified for this thread, but I hang around to pick up a little wisdom from my elders and keep my perspective on what's important.;)

This discussion is all too familiar to me...having retired from active duty Air Force in Nov 2009, I took a "worker bee" position in the same squadron I retired from. Find myself laughing at the "repetition" of ideas from management (which I was part of on active duty). Reminds me of the words of my mentor from 17 years ago, "I've seen this 'shtuff' before, didn't work then, don't know why these new guys think it'll work now." During a recent DV visit I was talking privately with our current commander and I asked about a recent bad decision from higher headquarters concerning one of our missions (of course I know the decision was politically driven...and the boss knows I know), his response to me..."see Rob, that's why I don't want you any where near the General!"

I find it amusing now looking at things from the "other side"; the basic factors of our business don't really change much...IMHO about 75% of the changes don't improve anything, often they make it harder on the folks doing the work, and are driven by somebody trying to get promoted. Glad I've moved beyond that role in life. :)
Watching it still frustrates me a little...helps to vent that every so often, thanks. :D

morning all: here's a little longer version of that.
we the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungratefull. we have done so much, with so little, for so long, that we are now qualified to do anything with nothing!
been awhile since I heard that, good to have the memory refreshed. :)!!
here's another, that's sort of true.
today we'll do the improbable, the impossible will take a little longer.

Hey, I didn't know you worked for the same people I do. :D

After almost fifty years in this business I should be used to it by now but sometimes it still makes me grind my teeth.

Things are tight...they used to send us all a Christmas card every year. Last year they just posted one on the bulletin board under "To whom it may concern".

Thats the problem Tom...making cash legally and you owe them...I haven't figured out how to make a lot and pay no taxes...legally:D...I get my taxes done the 21st of this month...hopefully I won't owe this year cause of the workmans comp for 6 1/2 months...payed a small fortune the past 2 years so I need to recoup some this year...Ken
