This discussion had me sing in to see what my SSA account has recorded. Nothing new since the normal starting of the new year adjustment for me. I even checked the "Overpayment" tab and nothing listed. Had a great 2019 so the adjustments with Medicare and SS payments for this year are based on that year. 2020 will cause another adjustment come December as will my taxes based on any new business I may or may not capture this year. Got a big refund due to paying my normal taxes all through 2020 with NO income for the business. Easier to continue the monthly IRS and quarterly state payments so there is no penalties in case I had landed something late in the year.

We too are not eligible for any of the "Stimulus" payments - that is OK and I will stop there for fear of banishment for 30 days

My wife is from Farmington Hills. My SIL has a cottage on the shore of Saginaw Bay in Caseville. We go to Michigan twice sometimes three time a year. Caseville is so relaxing. Michigan is a beautiful state once you get passed the roads.

Kurt: TY I think I might try one this spring. I figured you built the pole yourself. This could be a fun little project.

    Hi all!
    Here's a question.
On 3/10 I called a local, by local I mean he lives a few blocks away, and asked for an estimate to repair a crack in the blacktop and to seal the driveway. Also asked for an estimate to replace the sidewalk.
Told him I'll be around all day the following Monday.
He said "if I don't call you Monday just give me a call "
    Immediately thought that as strange.
Well he didn't call and neither did I.
So do I give him another chance?
That's what I'm throwing around in my mind.
    What do you think?

As crappy as it sounds, I've had similar experiences with various trades. The old days of customer service are gone. With a shortage of good tradesman and companies out there, you are at their whim, pretty much. If you find a good one...don't let them go!

Does he have a good reputation? If he's local and small, he might just be busy this time of year. If your initial impression of the man was good, I'd give him a call/benefit of the doubt. Go by his response to your call to make your decision if he's the guy you want.

    My 2¢ FWIW.

    Respect :oldglory:

I agree with the Col on the lack of customer service. With that being said, if you are comfortable and trust or like the quality of their work try again. If you are not sure do a little back ground research in your area and see what other providers offer. There is always the BBB to review..

    Afternoon all:

Don't know if this will help Mark, my SS went up $15 in January which I'm sure is the COLA raise, it sounds like they didn't add the COLA on to one of your checks and just sent out a check for the difference. :notsure:

Maybe posted this already, going by 2019 taxes I'm eligible for the stimulus payment, on the 2020 taxes I'm not. I told the lady who does my taxes to not submit them until the last minute because I will lose the payment if they go by the last tax form they have on record, which would then be for 2020 earnings.
Hopefully "LEGALLY" I can get the latest payment, and they added another month to the tax deadline so hopefully the check will arrive before I have to submit this years taxes. :annoyed:
It's their rules, what's the worse they can do, ask me to return it!
Was thinking about writing a letter thanking everyone responsible for giving me the stimulus payment for the new AR-15 I bought with it!  :boom:

On another note, just ordered a set of spare limbs for the crossbow just in case!
There was an authorized Xcalibur dealer not too far from me where I could have taken the bow and been back out hunting in no time, the shop is now closed due to the owners death, $100 for a spare set of limbs is good insurance and apparently a lot of other owners feel the same.

My experience with the BBB is that they are useless in every possible way. It appears that they are so afraid of telling the truth about bad businesses, for fear of being mistaken, that they refuse to share anything worth knowing. Are they state funded? Where they once seemed to have some clout... now... not so much.

Travlr, you may be totally right on the BBB review but just think if a company does have a bad rating then they must be really bad :amen:

Kind of used it as an example to research other providers in the area if the one that was contacted is not immediately known for their quality of work to offset their lack of customer service.

I agree! Most astonishing to me is the wide expanses of lawns without fences on highway 12! Who mows all that grass and when! The roads are better now than in California, used to be like war zones so many potholes, and if you broke down on the freeway, part of the expense of getting running again was a new rear window from target practice!

Hey there 60's, wannabes, stimulus check recipients, Susan.

My mom's in the hospital now. First word I heard was stroke, but she's as sharp as ever. Her blood pressure fluctuates and she can have vasovagal syncope events, essentially she faints without passing out. Of course the senior living facilty, EMT crew, and hospital ER went into full stroke mode. Took 'em over a day to admit she had fainted. Now I have to extract her before they find anything else wrong with a 93 year old woman. How hard can that be after all?

Neither my wife nor I ever saw any stimulus anything. I didn't think much of it other than that my wife HAD to qualify, even if she doesn't need it (neither of us does TBH -- if I get anything it will immediately go to the local food bank). TurboTax tells me Uncle Sam screwed up and we're therefore due a reduction in our taxes for 2020. Seemed odd to me so I held off submitting; anyone who's used TurboTax knows that they send out updates every 15 minutes or so, and I thought this might be a good time to wait for a few. Good thing I did because the new stimulus thing has stuff in it that affects 2020 taxes!

If I get him I won't let him go!

Yes, he has a good reputation. He is small and he does good work. He can't be busy, he's finished plowing and the blacktop plants aren't open yet. Unless he's running around giving other estimates. I don't know.

I'm know he does good work...maybe he was just having a bad day.

    Maybe I'll give him 1 more chance...but that's it.

    Thanks all!!

go to Hawaii they said. The land of palm trees, sunny skies and balmy tradewinds.

Well, it's been raining for two weeks off & on, and temps have been in the 60's. My yard is saturated.

But I would not move even if someone offered me a million bucks.

    Sue!

What type of bow are you thinking about?
The bow I mentioned is a crossbow, I like the Excalibur because it is a regular crossbow and not a compound, and is much easier to keep set up or do basic things if needed. Some of the heavier draw crossbows have a cocking crank to make them easier to cock.
Not up on regular compound bows anymore so can't throw any advice your way, I used to buy top of the line Jennings but they are now obsolete!

Sorry to hear about your mom.
That's sounds like exactly like what happened to my mother. She fell over twice like her legs just gave out (collapsed), took her to the hospital where they were then checking to see if she had a stroke. They determined no stroke, but her heartbeat was very low and they recommended a pacemaker, we talked it over and decided to have the procedure done (it seemed like she was alert as normal). First day after the procedure she seemed OK but a little groggy, second day about the same, and the third day she was really alert and just fine, then the fourth day her left arm was pulled up toward her chest and her head was cocked toward her left shoulder, the therapist said "it looks like she had a stroke"! Yes, she had the stroke AFTER the pacemaker was implanted!!!
I was given a book to read, "victims of stroke", in there it mentioned the symptom of "dropping" as an absolute sign of an impending stroke, I think what you are describing would be what is considered dropping.
If I had known what I know now, they would never had put a pacemaker in her until she was totally clear of having a stroke, again, from what I read that just falling down or collapsing was a definite indicator of an impending stroke.
Of course I'm no doctor, but relating a first hand experience with my own mother, be careful!
I think I had posted about this before, but it's worth posting again if it's of any help, :fingerscrossed: for your mom and wish her well.

    That should work!
Adjustable draw weight from 5-70# seems odd, if that is correct that should serve the purpose.
Just looked that bow up on their website, adjustable from 5-70# is correct, never heard of that much variation in draw weight before but I'm not keeping up with the modern technology on bows, have fun!

I'd buy the next technology if I could get it with a menu, and have a way to download from that menu without spending hours doing it. Maybe just get a mix of genres and be able to delete those I don't care about. That's why I never bought an I-pod.
