    Good morning all,

Cool start to a beautiful day here - 31 at 0530 when walking the dogs but clear blue skies.

Condolences to your ex-co-worker Mike, do enjoy prepping the race car. By the way welcome to being busier with daily projects now that you are retired. There is no end to things you will want to get done that you have been thinking about for years.

Have a great day everyone, be safe

At the VA now, waiting for my sonic blasting for kidney stones. Was here for this couple weeks ago, but got canceled due equipment issues. If all goes well, should piss out the remaining sand from busted stones tonight. This method is non invasive, my preferred way to go, being safer. Had a close call couple years ago with septic poisoning caused by the stint used in the invasive method. Advice for anyone doing this, watch for the correct consent form, as they like to slip in the stint consent form on you at the last minute on the gurney.

A little something every chance we get.
:pccoffee: Good Morning Porchies! Another 2/10" today brings me to 8.25" for the month! Come July we'll be begging though. Guess I'm going to try putzing on the truck and in the garage until it dries out.

Funerals get more common as we get older, unfortunately. Condolences to the family. But, do cheer yourself up with the RACE CAR! Isn't it nice have your TO DO list be YOUR to do list?

I can give the Smoker a B+ on it's maiden voyage, given that four of the six hours were in the very consistent rain. That made tending to the 321 ribs at the "hour" marks a little wet and difficult. Messed up the cook more than the BBQ. They were TOO tender, could barely cut them, but the wife and son like it like that, so it was OK. Could have put sausage on the warmer rack sooner too. And I seemed to use more fuel than expected, but that could be the wet too, but I ended with fuel in the hopper.

For as good of reviews as the grill gets, the App gets terrible ones. I didn't set the meat probe temp, but just let it measure - that worked. And the fire temp and timer part of the grille works very well. For the first hour and a half, app worked great, but I was following radar, and I left the App minimized and it lost contact. Went out with the phone and umbrella, pushed the little button, and it connected right back. But somewhere in the middle phase of the ribs, I lost it and could not get it back. Now, it was pouring rain, and all I needed was a timer, so I just set my watch. I will reset it up again now that it's in the back yard - when it's not raining. When it was running correctly, it was perfect, so I don't think the app has a serious problem unless it's not liking being minimized. Might just use my old phone as the monitor if that's the case. We'll see.

Looks like the grill learning curve is progressing quickly. Nice choice for a high performing good looking grill. I am on the hook for two chickens this coming Sunday. My brother and his family are up from NC starting today and my niece is returning home from Taiwan this Friday. My sister is hosting the evnt.

Did a lot of work at my sisters beach home this past weekend in a short period of time, The 220v Tesla charging outlet is installed and worked the first try. I also replace both the outside light fixtures on the garage. Meanwhile my wife, son, nephew and sister mulched in the entire areas that needed to be mulched. Plus they planted close to 100 daffodil bulbs my wife and I removed from our garden during the week. As a bonus my son repaired some of the patio pavers that were sagging in the backyard. I also installed a small weather center for my sister. Yesterday afternoon we went to a local benefit at a brewhouse. There was live music and the group was really decent. Al in all it was a relaxing weekend.

Alan , I’ve had dozens of kidney stones, not pleasant. I had sonic blasting (lithotripsy). That can also be unpleasant too. With me the stones didn’t get as broke up as they expected. When the boulder size chunks started passing I was on the floor in the fetal position in excruciating pain for 24 hours until the last passed. Heavy duty narcotics were my friend. I’ve also had laser blasting of the stones and stents. None of it any fun.The secret to avoiding kidney stones is modifying your diet, reducing oxalate rich food and drinking lots and lots of water. Good luck with your lithotripsy procedure today. I’ve been there

Well, some of it is! Deciding to try my old phone as the remote turned out to be a pain - I use it for XM in the garage. No problem, I'll put the app on Chromebook I leave out there - and I remember why I like it so much. An hour later, I finally get the app on the phone, get it Bluetooth paired, and the Android OPsys is TOO OLD for the wireless! So, back to reinstalling on the current phone, and it seems to be happily connected. Sheesh. Cooking is easier!

But I do plan on trying again soon - still thinking I'm going to Briskit over Memorial Day!

You had a very NICE weekend! It rained here, but I think I said that!

My old Mr. Coffee Barista did years of service but finally had its last call.

Out came my french press, which makes great coffee but time-consuming.

French Press: Two scoops of superfine burr ground coffee. 4 oz of boiling water, pour in. Let seep for three minutes still, so top crusty settles. Wait four minutes, install press, and press slowly. Pour. Eight minutes total, but who has time for that!

Gaggia Pro arrived yesterday. Three switches, a simple machine. Turn on, let the water heat, fire off the first cup of just water (preheat everything, including the cup)—two scoops for a double shot, press. Turn off.

The machines have a slight issue in the heater until 260F and off until it drops lower than 210F. So you trick the system by relating steam, kick the boiler back on, shut off steam. Wait for a second, then make coffee. Temperature does affect the flavor, so it's critical. OK, but I could wire up a thermocouple with an SCR and automatic that temperature with a little IC. I wonder why I drive my wife crazy!

I don't drink coffee to wake up, but wake up to enjoy my espresso.

We are back from our second road trip this year. Just wanted to get away. My wife has a goal to visit all 50 states in her lifetime and Idaho is one she hadn’t been too. She’s been to 43, she has 7 left. We drove from Elk Grove Ca. To Jackpot Nv. , about 9 hours, which is in north east Nv. a mile from the Idaho border. Stayed at Cactus Pete’s (one night there was enough)I’ve been to Idaho before and love the state. Beautiful state with lots of hunting, fishing and outdoor activities. I could easily live there but the little woman won’t do snow. She grew up in Pa. and is done with “the white stuff” and ice. Visited Craters Of The Moon national monument. Very kind of surreal place. Stopped all through Nevada and Idaho trying to find handgun ammo. Found only one place on the way home in Nevada that had it and loaded up on 38 spl., 357 mag, and 9mm. They had a limit on how much you could buy and I bought the max.
Spent the last 2 nights at the Atlantis resort and casino in Reno and enjoyed some fine dining and expensive whiskey’s and a little gambling.
Now it’s back to the retirement routine. No big trips planned until October to Pennsylvania for my wife’s 50th high school reunion and December for a Caribbean cruise .

If you don't mind my asking Ken, How much was the 9mm and 357? Prices here in PA if you can get it range $40 to $50 depending on FMJ or defense(cost more) ammo. I have about 1oo rds of FMJ and 75 rds of defense ammo. and the worst part is, you can't buy on line and have it shipped into PA :annoyed:. I need some range time

"Oxalate"? I guess I can google that, but any particular concerns from someone with experience?

New word of the day for me!

Overall, the highest oxalate foods include almonds, grains, and vegetables such as spinach, beet greens, and rhubarb.

Lastly, it is worth remembering that just because food has a high oxalate content doesn’t mean it is unhealthy.

    Source: https://www.nutritionadvance.com/high-oxalate-foods/

It turns out I eat a ton of high oxalate foods, but I also drink a ton of water. Minimum is 1/2 oz per pound of body weight. I'm about 240#, so 120 oz a day. I probably drink more than that (one gallon is 128 oz). In the morning is coffee (take water to process, so my 8oz coffee is like 4oz water). Rest of the day, only plain water. Evening, one beer (no more than six per week).

In the summer, I increase my fluid intake. I'll use Skratch hydration or make my own with orange added. I ended up in the ER, they couldn't get my heart signal, but I was still yacking and breathing and had a pulse, but no electrical signal. My heart was fine; lack of Potassium was shutting me down! Oops. We need that stuff, but I wasn't consuming enough of it. The irony is my cardiologist said "skip Gatorade, eat a bag of chips" Oranges and Banana are also good.

Ken, Avoiding foods with high oxilates means avoiding food, period. I take a pill to combat the acidity. About the happy drugs, yes, my most memorable stones experience was both the worst pain ever, and the happiest high I ever had! After getting the shot in the ER, I could still feel the pain, but could care less about it!
So, back home now after today’s procedure, not sure it did much good, have only passed a couple tiny grits as yet. I don’t care for the way my anesthesiologist did me, either. Had no concern for my questions or comments, and failed to alert me before hand to the high pain level of whatever it was he put in my veins before he put me out. Felt like my hand and arm were on fire! That never happened before, and scared hell out of me.

The last place I stopped in Nevada just before the California line was Cabelas. They had just got in a shipment. They limit it but being a club member I was able to buy more than non club members. I got 6 boxes of each. I don’t have the receipt so I’m guessing a little on the exact price. 38 special fmj $37.50. 357 mag fmj about $45.00. 9mm around $42.00 . I didn’t really want fmj but it’s what they had. Fmj is good for the range. Several stores told me it’s all about timing. You need to be there the day they get a shipment. It’s gone by the next day. They don’t always know when their next shipment will arrive nor how much they will get.
Same here in California, can’t get ammo shipped unless it’s shipped to an ffl who is also licensed to sell ammo in California. That’s almost impossible.
I wanted some 44mags too but they haven’t been able to get any for awhile.
I did find 2 boxes of 00 buckshot (for my short barrel home defense Mossberg)

Hoo Boy! This stone busting today turned out to be the most successful I ever had. Every time I pee I get more sand than the previous time. This was one big stone, stuck in the same spot, never busted before. I highly recommend sonic blasting for anyone needing to get rid of kidney stones.

Good morning everyone! I got the grass cut yesterday. The zero turn is in for maintenance so I had to use the garden tractor for the whole job. I'll be glad to get the zero turn back.

This guy dropped by last evening to see if I replaced the bird feeder ho stole a few weeks back out in our front yard.

    Good Morning All.

:goingcrazy::goingcrazy: . And so I am. Need to get my son to share some reloads.

Thanks Ken, Prices are about the same here and some shops will sell you one box if you purchase a gun from them:facepalm:. Others limit the quantity you can get if they have it. A small gun shop up in Mifflinburg PA sells reloads of 9mm FMJ for $39. A bit steep for reloads. Will we ever see $10 to $20 boxes of ammo again? Let alone be able to get any. on the 00 buckshot. Home defense is important these days.

Nice pictures Cheech. Blue water makes for a great shot. Always enjoy the scenery. Someday I'll be back. Wife wants to do Oahu and the big Island. Been to Maui and Kauai and enjoyed them both.

Glad it all worked out Alan.. Or should I say came out:). If there is a next time(hopefully not), tell the anesteologist (sp) about the burning in your arm and maybe they will do something different.

    Have a great day folks.
