Good morning everyone! Balloon flight was weathered out last evening - thunderstorms all around us but no rain for us. Another one scheduled for tonight but thunderstorms are possible again.

Taking the truck in to have the right front brake squeal fixed...that was supposed to have been fixed the last time it was in. We'll see how that goes.

    Stay safe!

Any lessons learned I can use? So far we have navigated this maze with success. We had the molecular test performed yesterday at 10:00 am. The earliest we could have taken the test and met the 72 hour requirement.

Russ: Yes we took the rapid molecular test yesterday at 10:00 am. The strike was settled after 36 hours so the border is open. TY for the tip to have everything on paper. Our goal today is to have all paperwork ready to go. So far the only piece I am missing is the molecular test results. TY for your insights.

Welcome to the porch Greg. Always nice to have a younger member check in.

Susan: What irrigation system did you purchase? If you can, and local codes allow, do yourself a favor and put the system on a separate meter to avoid sewer charges to your bill. It might cost a little bit more but the savings are worth it.

Interestingly you mentioned sewer charges based on water usage. I live in an unincorporated area. We pay for our sewer in our tax bill. It’s very, very reasonable.

The adjacent city pays in their water bill based on water usage. But those of us in this small unincorporated area get out water from the city agency.

Some years back our bill took a huge jump. It was during a drought and the water agency had started a tiered fee system. As a result no one questioned it.

Then a neighbor actually read his bill and noticed a sewer charge. A call to the agency resulted in comments like it had always been there. Untrue. They had to charge anyone the charge because if you use their water you use their sewer. Also untrue.

By now we were all up in arms. We got the county government involved. That’s when things really got interesting.

Turns out the city couldn’t charge sewer fees. We had the money refunded. Because our water rate was set by the agreement between the city and the county the water agency couldn’t unilaterally raise rates or institute a tiered fee structure. We received compensation for those over charges as well.

You might think the city would learn. But no. A few years later the start to charge trash fees, previously it was a free service. They stuck it in the water bill. Yep you guessed it. They started charging us for trash.

We have a private trash contractor. It’s sort of a government sanctioned monopoly. But the fees are controlled by the county.

As you can guess it took a bit of noise but we got our money back on that one also.

The city of Tucson is our water supplier in this part of Pima County. A new city manager has apparently discovered he can freely give us an increased rate and initiated a a new "fee schedule" for those of us outside the city limits. This practice has no basis in cost - in the past it was shared by the total system expense and he doesn't seem inclined to drop the charges inside the city. Simply a money making scheme that avoids a tax law adjustment.

The city I live in has it's own water wells, fresh water treatment and sewage treatment facilities. We pay sewage on the amount of water used. The city also allows a metered water intake that do not have sewage added into the cost. The second meter is for homes with pools and irrigation systems. Right now the cost to install a second meter is close to 2K. Our trash, recycling, bulk items, yard waste, street cleaning and snow removal is part of the city taxes we pay. Our city is run pretty well with a sizeable rainy day fund. We weathered the stock market crash of 2007-2008 really well with no cutback in services due to the property tax decrease. Thousands of other cities across the country were not as lucky. Since I have city water and sewer I am charged a maintenance fee to replace the infrastructure. My section of the city was built in 1963 and we are replacing the water infrastructure over a 2 year period. The project is almost complete. The entire process in interesting and complicated.

Cost to run an urban area is unaffordable. At first they have all new roads, sewer etc and just collect taxes, money galore and they spend it on whatever they want.
Then, roads need to be replaced, sewer lines need to be replaced, water, gas, etc.
Now they don't have the money and need to find ways to get it.
It costs about 28k per household per year to maintain an urban center.

Dirt roads, water wells and septic systems. Are affordable.

Tom, sprinkler system has its own well, so no water charges. No sewer charges - on septic. Trash is its own bill, but don't have it picked up. Take my own to the recycle center. They don't recycle in my county, to be picked up, so have to go to the recycle center anyway, so why pay to have the trash picked up. City used to be free, until about '08, then the city needed the $$, so they started charging the city. County has always paid for trash pickup.

That's all my buddy shoots Mike, nothing wrong with them.
Actually made the spinner to check if the broadheads are straight, if they aren't straight that can really effect accuracy especially when using fixed blades.
