    • I admire Rumsfeld, liked him a lot. A philosopher or scientist he wasn’t, but he was a smart guy. Not going to go further into the discussion of “reality” but I will just say this. Even philosophers and scientists do not all agree that reality is objective. And from a science point, physicists performed a quantum mechanics experiment a couple years ago that proved no such thing as objective reality. I could probably find the experiment but not worth pursuing. And finally what Don Rumsfeld said based on my reality is an example of subjective reality. I’m out of here

Here is where I depart from the seemingly common perception of how reality works. All kinds of people believe reality is fluid. That it is what you believe it is. The popular opinion is that if you believe something strongly enough it becomes true. A lot of people believe in subjective reality, and there are places (physics) where it can be "proven" that reality does not exist. In twenty or a hundred years that may change.

In my opinion that kind of unrealistic view makes it very difficult to create solutions. It creates a distrust and disrespect for the realities that affect us all. There are even ideologies (vegan, white supremacy) that invent their own realities and foist them off on vulnerable people to create converts.

I've lived my life making decisions based on what I percieve as real instead of what I wish. I play poker and would not be afraid to sit at a table with anyone. My decision making in poker seems like luck to many people... but it is nothing but managed risk and conscious efforts to read an opponent. When I decide to buy a stock or a piece of real estate a big part of my decision is anticipating the financial outcome over time rather than just the present day value and the reputation of the business/community. Understanding the possible trajectories and choosing based on expectations demands a firm grip on reality to succeed where others fail.

And I'm not telling you anything you don't know. I'd have to say that the people here seem well ahead of the curve in the other forums.

Well said. We have to assume all or most of our individual reality is objective otherwise we couldn’t function. Brain hurts, time for a wee dram of Forty Creek Barrel Select whiskey.

    Tequila for me.

And after a lifetime of loving tequila I just discovered about a year ago that an orange slice is much better than lemon or lime... and screw the salt.

    Cheers...

So, Mrs. Lincoln, other than that, how did you like the play?

Lynn and I spent a few days in the Buffalo NY area touring/checking out Frank Lloyd Wright homes. Talk about a man ahead of his time - you can see how advances in materials and engineering allowed him to attain his design concepts over the years. Fun trip.

    Enjoy your day!!

Interesting reading the posts on reality, to me reality is having two deer in front of me yesterday but slightly out of my comfort range for the crossbow, now that's reality! :D

Is that where the term "break a leg" came from? ;)
Carol and I did a similar trip to western PA a couple of years ago, staying at Seven Springs and visiting the Wright homes in the area. We saw the famous Falling Waters, Kentuck Knob, and another one I can't remember. Falling Waters is gorgeous, and it's also a maintenance nightmare. The guy also had a thing for making the occasional hallway so narrow that people barely fit through, let alone furniture!

So glad I am retired. Yesterday's trip to the concert was horrible. In Tysons corner VA the beltway went from 4 lanes down to 3 lanes. On a Saturday afternoon the traffic back up extended to I 270 north on the outer loop, close to 14 miles. We took an alternative route around half of the problem, still a PITA. Getting out of the parking lot and home was pretty easy.

    Today is light yard work.

I got the third wall of my "pole barn" started last evening and will finish it today, maybe getting a start on the fourth wall. The kids will be here Wednesday to help get the trusses up.

You might be wondering why I put "pole barn" in quotation marks. Erecting a "garage" requires a lot more inspections than a barn, and tends to have more stringent requirements. Once the pole barn is erected I can get the electricity installed by modifying my building permit or getting another, and then pour the floor. Also, pole barns are taxed at a lower property tax rate by the county. I'm proud to pay taxes and of what I get for them... but until the sonso'bitches learn how to spend money frugally I'm not giving them an extra dime if I don't have to.

:spending: NEW! From General Mills! Reality Chex! Try some! :spending:

:pumpkin: Morning every one..... Had some rain Thursday night, Yellow Submarine suddenly showed no signal and didn't record it. Changed batteries a couple times and nothing. Old fashion gauge gave us another 1/2", so 4 1/4" for the week. Was supposed to rain more, but it changed it's mind. Ran errands, and wasted the rest of Friday with a nap.
Took Saturday off for college ball - Hook Em! Went out to pull down the Sub, and the ants got it again. Ate the insides and contacts. RIP Yellow Submarine III.

New one be here Monday. Putz with fixing the outside of the greenhouse some, and figure out what I can cook. Wife wrenched her back last Sunday with "extreme gardening" (planted plants), and I am about out of things I can cook that we have!

Oh, we got Moderna boosters the first week they announced the concept, thanks to our neighbor who volunteers. This was before they changed their minds. Effects? Nah. Get it if you can, no one asks questions.

    Carry on!

Here's my reality, fix the garage.
I worked a half day on Saturday then came home and rolled the tarp back to start stripping the front trim and soffit.
    20211002_130051.jpg
I removed the faux support columns, they will not be going back on, they where just decorative hollow 1x4 boxes.
    20211002_130755.jpg
All the trim is off, found some more wires that where not fastened down. The soffit was all tongue and groove breadboard. I'll just be putting up 5/8" exterior plywood that I salvaged and painting it.
    20211002_141748.jpg
Found major rot in the center section of the soffit nailer.
    20211002_141800.jpg
Wires are now electrical stapled up.
    20211002_143256.jpg
Another trip for some 1x4 and 2x4. 2x4's are now $3.25 each, better than$12!
    20211002_155532.jpg
I cut out the rotted 2x4's and evicted another colony of ants and used 3" deck screws to install the new wood.
    20211002_165334.jpg
Had to quit as rain was coming, rolled the tarp back down and fastened it in place with plastic cap screws. Supposed to rain for the next 2 days.
    20211002_174852.jpg
I've got 4 more boards to remove and then the new stuff starts going back on. It's coming along slowly, trim would have been done today if I had good weather. Maybe next weekend.

Great stuff Greg. And you've given courage to "look at" the lumber aisle for a couple small things.
I got my lights fastened back up on the greenhouse! :anonymous:

Not sure what your point is. Just having a little fun with the subject matter. Your response is a little testy, for what reason I know not. In any event have a nice day.

Good morning everyone!! Enjoy the day!!!

Hoping to get a call from CMP this week - my Random Generated Number is close to those they are working now - to get a military M1911A1 like I carried as a LT and CPT before the Army went to the M9 Beretta.

Set the neck height and maybe pull the radial arm saw out and cut
The reliefs on the neck so the top will have no restrictions to vibrate.

Good morning. I hope everyone had a decent weekend. :pccoffee:

Monday is errand day for me. But first I need to visit the garden and pick some peppers to take over to the food bank. Then it is off to receive my C19 Booster shot. Then drop off shoes to be recrafted for my son and lastly get a propane tank refill. I should be home by 1.

Spatchcocked chicken on the smoker for dinner tonight.

:pumpkin: Good Morning Porchies! Looks like a WEEK of beautiful mornings to start a page full of little tasks for the week - starting with the greenhouse. Some truck, garage, house, yard all on the list......

Ordered some better light clips for the rope lights on the two buildings last week. Amazon didn't have them, so paid more for shipping than the clips. Sunday, I ordered 4 opaque panels for the South greenhouse wall - not as pretty, but maybe I get less heat build up than the clear. Cost more to ship those too! Hmmmm, maybe I see a pattern here.
