I hear ya, I can't imagine myself living anywhere but on the farm. Deep roots here literally. Planted hundreds of trees, build fences and pens. Know every inch of it. Yes, it's worth a lot of cash right now, but to me it's priceless. Where was your ranch? and what stock did you have Travlr?

My first ranch was in NW Arkansas. Lush and super productive. I established myself there as something of a cattle trader. I volunteered to help three vets at different sale barns and got the inside track on what to buy, took them home to acclimate in my corral, and before I turned them loose the neighbors would show up and buy them.

Second ranch in South Dakota about 25 miles north of Sturgis. A completely different landscape. I bought older cows and raised replacement heifers off of them.

Of course there always seemed to be a couple of horses show up. I made extra money gentling horses in high school so they seem to be magnetically attracted to me.

    What about you?

Heading to Pennsylvania tomorrow for 10 days. My wife was born and raised in the Lancaster area and her 50 year high school reunion is Saturday. She has family there and lots of friends so we’ll be spending time visiting. I like Pa. , even offered to move back there when I retired. But she hates the winters there and says she doesn’t do snow. Hope I don’t gain a bunch of weight. I’ve found food places there to provide hearty large servings of stick to your ribs American food. There’s an all you can eat place there tcalled Miller’s. Really high quality food. I hope they are still around. Love my Northern California but Pa is nice too

    Lol high school reunions.
They contacted me for my 40th many years ago and I said no.
I said i wanted to remember the hot girls the way they were, not the ugly fat asses they are now.
(I know I saw quite a few over the years). Plus the one that contacted me was one of the most stuck up you know what’s in school and you know what? She sounded the same way.
And there were 3 guys that if I saw again I really think an ambulance would of had to be called.
The past is the past.. leave it…

Maybe it was a midlife crisis a few years ago but I thought I really needed to reconnect with my friends from high school and college, none of which I’ve kept up with over the years. One of the guys I was working with at the time said “People come into and out of our lives for a reason”. I thought that aside from being a grammatical nightmare the notion was quite profound. So when my 40 year HS reunion rolled around a few years ago I just didn’t feel the need.

Doc has me taped up pretty good and I’ve been icing it every hour or two. Last time they did this they applied a compression wrap of the elbow and my forearm swelled up like Popeye. I couldn’t even get my watch on over my hand. Bursitis be damned, I’m replacing the crank pulley on the Taco this weekend.

Never had Bursitis, but I'd be buying some beer, and rounding up younger friends who "help" while you watch! Just some bench advice....

OK, guys and gals. I'm guessing that someone among you may have experience with a fireplace insert for a wood burning fireplace. I've done some basic, and was going to visit a store for Regency, but none of the local actually have one on display. Know I want a blower, remote would be cool. Some friends have the Volstang from Northern Tool, but that is way too "wood stove" for the living room. Our existing FP sucks, and if the wife wants me to buy firewood for heat, that's what I need to do.

    Any experiences out there?

Sounds like you have a lousy and nasty attitude. A reunion is what you make it. Went to my 50th a couple years ago. Had a great time. Rekindled friendships, reminisced with friends, talked about good times and days gone by. Some of the people that I rekindled friendships with, we all now get together a few times a year for some good times. Of course both my wife and I had a tremendous number of friends in high school and that makes a reunion more enjoyable. I know many of the people who did not attend my 50th were loners, losers or wall flowers, didn’t expect to see them and besides they wouldn’t have enjoyed it anyway. And I really don’t give a damn what the women or guys currently look like, I’m not that shallow. It’s a once in a lifetime enjoyable experience. If you don’t like reunions don’t go. I personally like them and have a great and memorable time and know my wife will have a great time at hers.

I'm with you on reunions. Not looking for a bunch of stretchmarked divorcees, could care less about the rented sports cars that show up, and would rather believe that I've outlived more than a few jerks. I know I've done better than the average bear, but don't feel the need to compare experiences. Worse than any of that, though, would be to go hoping to connect with an old friend, only to be told that he died last year.

Yep, all day, all work week. Let a fireplace shop with a great , not good, reputation do the installation. The reason I say that is each insert has it’s own quirks and a good installer will read the manual first to know the particulars of that model. He’ll also know what to look for as far as venting properly. It can get complicated. Also, many older installers are not familiar with electronic ignition or multimeters. Make sure they also know what a manometer is.
Personally, I’d be looking for a millivolt unit with a standing pilot and a blower that can be controlled with a thermostatic remote.

Way to go, I used to raise money for the MS150 bike ride here in N.C. I rode 5 years in a row before I blew my lower spine up. First 2 years, I did the Century ride on the 1st day. Really cool riding with 1200-1500 other people raising money for a good cause. Man I miss those days of bike riding more than anything else. Dare I say it, even deer hunting.

I went to my 25th class reunion, and no one in my class even knew who I was. My twin sister and I went to the home coming foot ball game on a Friday night. I told her to go in first, then I waited about 10 minutes and went up in the stands and sat away from her. I wouldn't tell anyone who I was, and laughed my butt off. There are a few friends that I keep up with via telephone, but not many. I used to hook up with quite a few on "Facebook", but I got so burned out on all the B.S on there, that I just quit using it.

We started bottling the honey that we extracted last week. It is an interesting blend of summer and fall honey. We opted not to extract this summer since all 3 colonies were pretty new. We should end up with somewhere around 110lbs from the 3 hives and left almost that much for the bees to feed on during the winter.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch. Well, it looks like rain, feels like rain, but radar says none around. We get it tonight. Quit long enough mid-day yesterday for me to clean the pond filters, and it was like working in a wall of water. But we need it, and I won't need to run the sprinklers, so I'll take it.
New wall panels for the greenhouse came yesterday, so maybe I will swap them out if it's not to terrible outside - or not. I know I will have me some more coffee. Have a great day all!

Thanks for the info Keith - sounds like a gas or electric model you're describing - I am looking for wood burning insert - which I figure I have to light myself - could be wrong. You be RIGHT about each is different; some bypass the flue using a vent hose, some use the flue, some remove..... And I'm not allowed on the roof, so that's one reason to have an installer. The main one I'm kinda thinking is carbon monoxide if I don't do it right! More rainy days gives me more time to look at stuff.

Sounds like a great life! Horses are definitely good for the soul. I had horses most of my life until 6 years ago when my last old guy died at 32. I have sheep now, just a small flock on 5 acres in the Okanagan Valley. They don't knock you over the same as cattle lol. Used to buy a few feeder steers, but not enough pasture to make that work. I'm down to 10 ewes but they gave me 24 lambs this spring.
