    Afternoon all:
:annoyed: Things are going to really get tough!!!
The local deer herd is being decimated due to Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD). My buddy has found 12 dead deer in a relatively small area, he was told another guy up the street from me found 2 decent buck dead on his property, and a farmer just a few miles away has found almost 30 dead deer on the farm. It is carried by a midge fly that bites an infected deer and then transfers it to another deer when it bites it, I was wondering why I wasn't seeing any deer where I had been seeing deer all summer, now I know why, also seeing very few deer while hunting. :(

Why is it sport to kill a buck deer because he has a big rack, but it’s murder to kill a drug dealer because he poisoned your son?

It's been around a while. heard about it when I used to hunt Potter County. The carnage stops when the first hard frost arrives.

I vote natural gas if you have it available.
I did the wood thing years ago -- just too much work.
Gas or wood finding the best installer is the most important part.

    Evening all:

It is also known as blue tongue disease.

Yes, but it looks like a hard frost is a couple weeks away, an awful lot of damage can happen by then.

If I were on a jury I would consider it justifiable homicide, "SOMEONE" once mentioned that the major drug kingpins that are responsible for the 10's of thousands of illegal drug related deaths in the US should receive the death penalty, I agree!!!!!

A little something every chance we get.
We have natural gas lines, but that would be a lot of construction and permitting to get to the fireplace. I've seen claims that wood inserts can "use 8X less wood - or burns (controlled) 8X longer. Even half that would be great. Takes some serious winter around here to even need it, so....
Have not hit that magic search text that gives me a dealer installer anywhere near us at all. Going to be SA or Austin, but haven't found the "right" one yet.

I apologize for any misunderstanding. My son wasn't poisoned by a drug dealer.
My angst was over the senseless killing of a handsome animal being labeled as sport.
    But then, you knew that.

    There's a thread for that :)

My son and family are in San Antonio. Good luck with your search -- I don't imagine wood stoves are a big business there! As for the "8X" stuff, it's advertising so give it the attention it deserves.

    Good morning everyone!

Welp the trip to Colorado and back went well and was successful.

Total mileage was just over 3,300 miles.

One of my friends and one of my younger brothers drove to southeast Colorado from N.E. PA.

    3 driver's made it bearable.

Now I just have to get my driver's seat and mirrors back where they belong :)

Really considering that my next vehicle has memory seats! LOL

:rain::pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals! Quite the night! 5.47" of rain from 11 to 6 AM. No power from 1 AM to 6 (my CPAP not working kind of woke me up). Nice having some gas appliances - Carol made Mikkel breakfast and he showered by candlelight before heading off to work. Only apparent issue is my outdoor pond power circuit - GFCI is tripped; but going to have to wait a bit to figure that out. Rivers in flood stages throughout the county. No need to run sprinklers the rest of the week! :yay:

:rofl::rofl: Of COURSE there's a thread for that! I should have known..... Thanks Dave

In my lifetime, I have lived in several homes that had fire for heat - wood fired. Both wood stoves - and stone fireplaces with "heat-a-lators". I have cut wood (hate chainsaws), bought wood, toted wood, trucked wood, split wood and made kindling, stacked wood, tarped wood, cleaned chimneys and stove pipes, shoveled and carried ash - you name it. Even had a stove in a Wyoming basement that was built and grated for lump coal. Amounts to many years of manual labor - exceeds 50!

This desert house has a natural gas set-up (spec'd by some contractor) and has both a lovely (ceramic log) appearance - and a SWITCH. This last feature is the part I love best.....

What it doesn't have is an engineered insert with a blower - and specifically, a rugged 12v blower that uses a converter (12v supply) - that has provisions for use with a battery. Maybe an additional provision to convert and run on a propane bottle.

After seeing and hearing about the aftermath of weather related disasters in recent times - I'm thinking that our dependency on public utilities might have gone a little too far.

BUT alan, deer sausage is tasty!!:p
In our area there are some huge developments built up against either state forest lead or state game lands, they sometimes bring in state shooters to "CULL" the deer out of those developments and they shoot hundreds. A lot of people put out feeders and plant things that deer love to eat, then they live and multiply in those developments until their numbers become a nuisance and the same people who drew them into there now want something done to get rid of all the pretty deer that have now become a nuisance to them, DUH! Those deer don't even have a chance and no sport involved there, I think they do donate the meat to food pantries though so at least it doesn't go to waste.
