    Good morning fellow Porchies!!

I need to make a trip to the gun shop today to pick up some .380 for Lynn's Ruger - she wants to get some aroma therapy. :D I also need to track down some .30 Carbine - that stuff is hard to find again - may have to order it. A few more stops - liquor store and pick up a Christmas card for a friend and that should pretty much be my work for the day.

I went to grab something out of our frig in the basement on Saturday afternoon...and the door came off. Imagine my surprise. The bottom spin managed to spin out of the bracket. Luckily nothing broke or spilled...and I didn't break anything, either and with a little help from Lynn...and a lot of cursing from me...I got it back together.

I've seen them pour concrete in pretty cold temps here in northeast PA - but they have been using blankets and heating elements on the bridge that crosses our property. They poured the deck last Thursday and haven't been back since to let it cure. I imagine they will be here today to start to pull the forms and start on the wings. Should be done in a few weeks.

    Be safe out there!!

We've had a lot of sub-freezing mornings. The crew generally arrives around 6:30 AM and is working before 7 - stays until 4ish in the afternoon. But, I don't think they have ever poured concrete when the temp was below freezing at the time. Close...but not sub freezing.

Last week was mostly in the low 30s but the previous weeks have been in the 20s. It's 29 right now and the crew is down there working now.

Yeah, lots warmer than here. The guy wants to pour on Friday and the low is supposed to be a single digit 7, and the following week with no days higher than 30's.
I'm gonna call the concrete company this morning to verify my thoughts, but expect to delay concrete.

    Morning all:

Seems like certain pistol ammo is readily available, as well as .223 Mark. My buddy is looking for 100gr. .243 FB Hornady Spire Points for reloading, seems like everyone is out of stock of them as well as most other reloading components.
I could use some CCI small rifle primers, and some standard CCI Magnum rifle primers, but in no panic to find them, I have a lot of standard rifle primers and a lot of brass, powder, and bullets for the 30-06 and .308, plus a decent supply of the same for some other calibers that I don't use that often.
Maybe time to stock up on arrows and broadheads also, never know!

Since the recent topic is on Ammo, I do have a question. Can you mail order rounds of ammunitions, or do you have to buy them in person? I am not a hunter and the allure of firing a weapon was gone when I left the Army. I should add that I have no disrespect for anyone that hunts or target shoots.

A little something every chance we get.
:pccoffee: Morning Porch Folks! Looks like a can & scrap metal recycling run, drop off the pool cleaner for repair (again - LAST time!), and go from there. Supposed to be mid-60's, but we'll see how nice that ends up before I plan further.

    Have a great week, everybody!

Just pulled the plug on pouring concrete. Expected temps as low as 7 degrees, and the concrete company was honest enough to advise waiting.
I admire that. They will not be on the naughty list.

In almost all states you can buy ammo via mail but there are some regulations and restrictions. For example in California ammo must be shipped to an FFL who also licensed to sell ammo in California. New York has similar restrictions. You cannot buy ammo via mail in Alaska. But in most states there are few or no restrictions to buy ammo by mail.

Yes, you can buy ammo and have it shipped, you will need to know about any regulations or restrictions like Ken mentioned, I don't think you need to pay the hazmat fee on loaded ammo either.

The rain is pouring here in Northern California. We are experiencing what is called an atmospheric river. High winds gusts over 50 mph in the valley and much higher gusts in the mountains. Torrential downpours. May get upwards of 6 inches in the valley of rain. The Sierras in places like Truckee California and the mountain passes are predicted to get 6 or more feet of snow. I say bring it. We are in a drought here and will take every drop and every snow flake we can get. I’m enjoying it so much I’m sitting out in the patio wearing my camo hunting parka having a glass of one of my favorite whisky’s just watching the wind and rain do it’s thing. The patio has a roof so I’m staying relatively dry. Enough with the iPad, time to get back to watching nature’s beautiful fury and sipping my adult beverage. Have a great evening all.

I really enjoy being outside in storms. Nice to hear you're getting moisture that's needed. We need to fill Lake Powell and Lake Mead needs some too. If you have any extra send it this way.

Dude, are you in the blind or what?! The Greenheads and Specs should be on insane strafing runs during this Wx! It's JUST starting to really blow down here on the coast and the significant rain is finally starting. I'm out of the loop currently but this is when I would leave home for many days at a time and spend it with my Lab in the rice out of Willows, CA. Jan 6th of '06 I think is correct when my boy and I hunted the NorCal hurricane. Confirmed winds over 80mph, power out for days and days because Glenn County lost over 90 utility poles and other grid infrastructure. OMG the mallards were off the hook flying 5' off the water. You had to wait for the birds to fly over the blind to the south so when you shot 'em, they might hit the water before they blown past my north pond!

I hadn't heard this, yet! The brothers were awesome back in the day. As a kid, my Dad got us in to Ontario Motor Speedway for time trials to the Cal 500. Got to shake Al's hand. We also got to do a couple laps before the trial in a VW van. My 2 brothers and I were sitting in back and they had the slider door open. Felt like we were barely moving and we would fall out of the banked corners though the guy said it was floored, going as fast as the van could go which IIRC, was about 90mph! That day was the day that for the first time ever, an Indy Car broke the 200mph barrier and it was Bobby Unser at the wheel and witnessed it all happen. Damn, that was a long time ago! RIP Al.

Wish I was in my blind with lab and a hunting partner. Wind, rain and cold weather, a duck hunters dream. I’ve spent thousands of hours on flooded rice up around Williams and Colusa hunting duck, geese and pheasants. When the weather is nasty it always brings waterfowl hunting memories and makes me wish I was out there with dog and shotgun.

Well, you're certainly off to a friendly start. You'll also find that folks here talk about health issues, deaths of friends and family, caring for aging family members....about life as it applies to us now that we're approaching/in our 60s and 70s and... Even the weather becomes a topic since we are from all over the US and it impacts our lives differently. And, sometimes just talking about the weather is someone's way of checking in...and that's fine.

There's no age requirement that forces you to be here when you turn 60. Just a bunch of good folks who enjoy spending a few minutes a day sharing life's experiences.

Oh, by the way, good morning fellow Porchies! The construction crew was back to work yesterday morning at 6:30 pulling forms off the bridge deck - hopefully they'll complete it by the end of the month. This detour thing to get to the house is getting old.
