Here is a Cardinal for you! I looked at this image a bit closer -and to my astonishment the canera/lens actually focused on the light snow better than on the bird -this usually never happens for me that is why the Cardinal is a bit "soft" (out of focus). also I do not like the feeder in the pic -- not my "style"

Welcome! Lots of cold...I mean cool... folks in here. Newbies fill the cooler, over by the steps. But today, most anywhere outside will do.

    Welcome aboard!
There's a wealth of knowledge here from the village elders.
As mentioned, your turn to fill the cooler, but a snow bank will do.

I've got about 9 inches of snow looking at me in my driveway -and it is 16F outside. Guess what - I don't care! -too dam much work to clear it. Plus, I have my Tacoma (has not been moved yet) and our 21 Subie Outback we took out yesterday for a bit. I truly think the Subaru can outperform the Tacoma on 6-12 inches of snow in a residential setting!? Especially if my wife is driving!

When you're our age, and the dog tells you something is out front, and it turns out to be the Fire Dept. and an ambulance,
first thing you do is check each other to make sure we are OK, that our house is NOT burning, then move on.

    20220203_125635.jpg

We don't know about what yet, but probably our neighbor's daughter, who has a myriad of problems. :fingerscrossed: We'll hear when they return.

Yes, and we're lucky that it's only "a bit". We had 3/4" of rain when it stuck at 32*, then it all just turned to bouncing sleet as it dropped and the wind came up. Freezing rain only lasted a couple minutes here. We don't have enough to worry about on the walks, and I have salt at the doors if we need to carefully go out. But, we're not going anywhere, and the chili is simmering along!
Lots of ice around Central Texas though - it varies greatly from what I see. Good news on the roads, is that it's about 90% trucks going slowly in lines. Most of the weather is supposed to push East this afternoon and evening, but it will be cold for us - into the teens.

    Evening all:

That's why I like the outdoors, I would have some neat pics. of critters if I would carry a camera, but I carry enough "STUFF" and don't need to add to it, those are two nice pics. of our feathered friends.
THEN, there was the time I had the camera along and a Bald Eagle was sitting on a bare branch along the river, took a bunch of pics. including it flying away, and when I got home I realized that I had grabbed the camera with no film in it!:annoyed:

Ouch!!! - most DSLRs have a menu setting where the shutter will not trigger if no memory chip inserted, so you know quickly if you screwed up and continue shooting
BTW "birds in flight " shots are tough to get -even in ideal conditions. Think how a hummingbird flies! They don't know the meaning of "straight"

No, wasn't me. Their daughter suffers many medical maladies, stemming from a brain injury 30+ years ago in junior high. Been hospitalized several times this year alone. If she did anything, it was pulling a tube out because that happens when she tries to move. They are wonderful neighbors, and it's all very sad. They have cared for her at home all this time. This year has been the worst I remember.

It's sad. We will probably know something tomorrow. Pretty sure they both went with her to the hospital.
