Good morning fellow Porchatonians and Happy Father's Day to all you fathers.

Somehow managed to pinch a nerve in my left shoulder and have been in pain since yesterday afternoon. Looks like I'll be laying low today.

    Happy Fathers Day to all!

Nifty tool, one of those "why didn't I think of it"?
Loosen the drain plug, then use this guy to remove the plugs without dropping them into a pan of hot oil.
OTC Tools 5911A Drain Plug Pro Magnetic Remover, Black
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MSJEBBO

I normally use a magnetic pickup tool to get the plug out of hot oil, but I like this guy better.

The last time I changed the oil, the washer was stuck to the pan. Had to drop my skid plate to get a gasket scrapper in there to pop off the drain plug. Fresh one every time, just hard to see them up there and convinced "it's in the oil someplace" nope.

Thanks Ken. We babysat last night for 6 hours. We took Baby Addie to a local festival where she enjoyed funnel cake and homemade ice cream. She also had some cheeseburger and fries and a couple bites of ham and bean soup. You can guess what the beans did man!

Looks like a good idea. Instead, I put valves on my wife's RAV4 and on my Tacoma. Easier to change the oil, and no need for washers. I put clamps on the valves instead of the plastic gadgets that came with the valves.

Good morning fellow Porchatonians!! Hope you all had a great Father's Day!!

Despite the pinched nerve, I had a good day - watched the US Open from the couch and enjoyed some bourbon and dinner with Lynn, Face-timed with my son and got a good night's sleep.

    Life is good.

    Good Monday Morning!!!:dancingbacon::broccoli::bananadance:

Dryer is running and working like new again. Instructed my son how to clean the lint from the dryer and the laundry room area and how to replace the three heat sensors, thermal fuse, and the heating element. He did better than excellent, truth be told, he did a better job than I would have done. He now understands the importance of removing lint from anywhere around or in the dryer. There must be a billion dryers, in America, that use the same components. You will always be able to buy the parts. The only need to upgrade is if you desire a larger capacity dryer.

Did strip steaks on the EX6 last night along with asparagus and pineapple.

Going to cook up some yard pimp and take it over to my nieces home this afternoon. Going to meet the newest addition to the family. Should be a wonderful day.

If I had deep pockets (and the space) - I think I would rig the laundry to have a double stack of dryers. Seems like the washer is constantly waiting on the dryer. Makes the day drag by .........

I hate to admit this, but I have a Fujumito valve. Finally found it after changing my oil twice, need to install it next time. :)

I still have random vehicles show up at my house.

My Physical Therapist has a 2016 4Runner. 80,000 miles. Firestone told her she need a new radiator. Uh, oh. They quoted her $1500! WTF? Talked with her and the vehicle runs cool, nor needing coolant.

I told her to bring it over to the house and let me do a visual and pressure check to see if there is any real issue. Normally I hear the "it needs valve cover gasket" story (visual seepage, but not dripping) as those are the firestone money makers (hint valve covers are fine, but they pulled that on a friend with a Lexus and told her new rack and pinion (the only time I found was a torn steering rack boot, $8) but wanted $3500 for repairs on 120,000 mile Lexus. Sheesh!

I'll order a cabin air filter and engine air filter. WIX Filters, less than $30 for both. Her 12-year-old daughter will stop by with her, told them to wear old clothes and plan on getting dirty. Showing a 12-year-old how to replace the cabin air filter ($8, takes a minute) and explaining the dealer charges $100 for that service is an eye-opener. The engine air filter takes about four minutes, but both reinforce some simple things, best to do it yourself.

Checklist, from the top of my head: I'll print it out and let them check off every item as we visually check and confirm. I'll handle jack stand placement and pulling wheels (weight will surprise most) but have Mom & Daughter replace wheels and hand tighten lugs, then check torque with a torque wrench.

    Toyota 4Runner Tacoma checklist:

    Under hood:

    o Engine Oil Level

o Brake Master Cylinder Level & Fluid clarity (test for moisture & test strip check)

o Battery Terminal – tight and free from corrosion. Battery water OK (top only with distilled).

o Coolant Level and Fluid Color (COLD ONLY)

o Power Steering Reservoir. Level and fluid, OK?

    o Air Filter

    o HOSES:

o Any signs of coolant leaks?

    o BELTS

o Any signs of worn belts?

    o Belt Tensioner? Snug? Noise-free?

    o Viscus fan assembly, OK?

    o Brakes:

    o Front Pad Thickness?

o Rear Pad Thickness? (4 Runner, drums on Tacoma)

    o Front differential fluid level?

    o Transfer Case Fluid Level?

    o Rear End Fluid Level?

o DO NOT ATTEMPT to check transmission, unless the code tool specifies temperature for the year (ASIAN) Transmissions.

    o Half Shaft Bolts

o Prop shaft bolts? (Trivia I still have my half thick Snap-on 12mm wrench I bought in 1976 for tightening those bolts, but probably use 10mm, not the 8mm from 1972).

    LUG Nuts. Tighten to 83 ft-lbs 76 ft-lbs (ALUM) 21mm socket

What have I overlooked? (thread depth is another simple measurement, show how to check outer, middle, and inner; explain why we rotate).

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gal! Yep, Tom, that's the story at too many places these days. Why I'll never go back to San Marcos Toyota. Firestone did tell me I had a "shaky" tie rod end last week at alignment, and we checked it out when I was down at 4LoFab. Exactly what they said it was. We'll take care of all the ends - their quote was typical - not unfair. I will afford to give them a compliment when I go for another alignment.

Had a wonderful Fathers Day; with Carol's delicious oven ribs and a mango avacado salad. Strawberry shortcake for desert too! Son worked over the back of the Darth Previous - he'd had a ridiculously long week with dealers trying to fasten a bottom tray (unsuccessfully). So we jacked it up, and he pulled it off for now. Missing the rashed off corner where the duct tape is. Got some part numbers I will research for him, then we'll put it back on. Or, he will - while I supervise! Then we all hit the pool for a while before dinner! Wonderful.

Now, we just have to figure out why the phone is gone nuts and not working. Spectrum to arrive this PM to check their end, as they do have some problem they think. I have email into VTech support as well.

Bravo!!! Teaching kids and moms about how people get suckered, and how many things can be done at home is essential. I had a place I had come to trust tell me that a truck needed ball joints, so I had them do them. A year later I took the truck in and the mechanic told me I needed ball joints, the original service writer that sold me ball joints the first time there and quickly diverting the conversation... Now I wonder if they needed to be replaced the first time. We can get snookered even when we know better.
I have pics somewhere of my 16 year old daughter (now 40!!?) and her friends putting the steering linkage together on a '62 Galaxie we turned into a show car. She knows how to turn a wrench if she has to, and how to negotiate a price when buying a car.
