Good morning Porchatonians. Just got over a successful huge event at work last week that I've been heavily involved with for 4+ years. I feel that I can retire now without a huge burden on my agency. I'm going to now start the retirement application process this week. Part of the process is cleaning up some luxury things that I could save money on. I do enjoy SirusXM but it's ridiculously expensive if you pay full price. I struggle paying even the promotional rate but if you can suffer through 20 minutes of negotiation you can get it down to about what Pandora or Spotify Premium is. I don't drive in my truck as much as I use to but when I do I'm out of radio signal range. The online chat with SirusXM ended up with this "canned" message:

"Thank you so much for patiently waiting. I have a good news for you, I've convinced my higher support to give it to you our updated lowest promotion that can be applied on your radio today for the Music & Entertainment package for only $5.99 plus fees and taxes every month good for 12 months where you can still have our service and you still have the ability to listen online to your any mobile devices, just download the application and log in your credentials. I just want to let you know that after 12 months it will renew at then current rates but nothing to worry, I'll set your account that you will receive an email notification 60 days prior to it's renewal date. So since you can get up to 70% discount on this one, let's take advantage this best promotion for today, I'll sign you up on this one right now and are we going to use the card on file for this transaction"?

I put a reminder on my calendar for July 16, 2023 to review the subscription again.

What makes you think that I used a telephoto lens! :)
I have a Nikon coolpix that zooms in fairly well, I wasn't going to get too close to that bear and got about as close as I wanted to and still get a decent picture.

Might be a good place to put up a tree stand for bear season Ken, I could use a nice bear rug!

I’ve never hunted or harvested a bear, just didn’t have any desire to do so. I’ve eaten bear on two different occasions and didn’t like it at all. It was gamey and had a strong unpleasant taste. I know what they’ve been eating prior to harvest has a lot to do with taste. Those two bear must have been eating some nasty stuff. I shot a deer many years ago that the stomach content showed he was eating mostly acorns. I thought it would be great but it was awful. Even my dog wasn’t very interested in it. All other deer have been great, I love venison. I guess it just depends on where they’ve been shot and their diet.

Question for ya all. I’ve made several posts over the last few days and my message count doesn’t change, stays at 1590. I don’t really care about the count but something is wrong and should be corrected. Anyone know who/where I report this?

    It’s a unimportant thread
Lots of off topic threads don’t add to the count.
You can have 100,000 posts and not help anyone.

Oh crap Mike, you burst my bubble. I thought the 60+ thread was the most important, most intellectual thread on this form, maybe even on the internet. Thought we might even win a Pulitzer Prize.

I shot a buck in Vermont that had a stomach full of Hemlock. Strange i thought as there was a bumper crop that year of Beech nuts and I thought hemlock was a Winter survival food.
I asked a biologist at a check station and he said that hemlock was a regular item on a deer's menu and probably got tired of eating Beech Nuts.:notsure:
Meat tasted fine, as well as all the rest that were chowing down on acorns.

I believe the taste of Black Bear has everything to do with it's diet. Eating garbage from a dump...you get the idea.
My only bear was taken in Green Mountain Nat Forest 3/4s up a remote mountain.
Bear was chowing down on Mountain Ash and Choke Cherries before that . Meat was excellent and has to be treated like pork due to risk of Trichinellosis.

If an animal has been eating red oak acorns the tannin in the feed will taint the meat badly. White oak not so much. And an animal eating corn will be much less gamey. A fat bear ready to settle into a den for the winter is usually much better than a bear harvested in spring. But it's hard to know until you cook something up.

Glad you're all recovered, and can go terrorize your gym.

First thought was BIGFOOT! Then, I looked at the pictures  Maybe now the Police can match him up with other pipe knocking Bears, and get you justice!

    Of course we deserve it.
