    I agree with others. Go to a running shoe store with sales staff that will measure your foot, watch pronation as you walk, and really pick the best brand. I’ve ended up with ASICS shoes but my wife buys Brooks. Each have their own designs. One thing I always do is buy Dr Scholls plantar fasciitis inserts. They do wonders for my feet. I don’t run but walk 5 miles each morning on sidewalk and dirt path.

    Once you find a shoe that works then next time buy them online.

    My local shoe store is only a few dollars more than buying online, the level of service is worth the extra.

    I agree 200% with the others, Find a store that has professional shoe salesmen/ women who are shoe savvy and knowledgeable. I found one and now buy all my shoes there - running shoes, dress shoes, hunting boots etc. Most comfortable best fitting. I have happy feet now.

    Are you near an REI? They have a huge selection and the one near us has very knowledgeable staff.

    Does anyone remember the bird's nest I found in my rain gutter? Well the guldanged thing caused the first clog I have ever had in my downspouts. I spent all morning and half the afternoon in 90 degrees and 99% humidity up on a ladder which is place I hate being. Ran a drain cleaning thing through which only made it a little better, strangely enough. So I got out my leaf blower, stuffed the business end into the downspout, and let 'er rip. That finally did it. The next bird's nest I find gets relocated.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

    On the other subject, there it an REI way north. I went there on a Hoka 1 1 search, cause my wife's surgeon wore them all day. He's older, and busy. Anyway, selection was poor, service poorer! I think there is a store literally called Happy Feet. They say they specialize in specialty!! They must be the ones. Got 2 Dr. Appointment in Austin in a couple weeks sounds like another stop!

    Try Kuru or Hoka shoes! Best decision I ever made

    Kuru shoes and no plantar fascitis inserts necessary!!!

    Shoe stores SUCK!!! I have a wide foot and can never find shoes that fit!!!!

    Same here, wide foot and have had trouble finding wide enough footwear for most of my life, plus the double wammy of having high arches which means I need good boots etc. I just recently started buying Dr. Scholls plantar fasciitis insoles also for some boots, I never had much luck with Dr. Schools, but those particular ones seem pretty good.

    I have a wide foot as well, getting my running shoes online is almost impossible, however, my local running store can order pretty much anything. Yeah, I cannot get them same day, but I can get exactly what I want.

    I have the opposite problem. It seems manufacturers have quit making narrow shoes.

    Yeah... I don't buy that. Do you buy shoes that are uncomfortable? I don't. They stock six pairs of narrow shoes in each size.

    Yeah, me as well, wide foot/high arch and I've had a very tenuous off and on relationship with plantar fasciitis over the years; inserts, be they off the shelf or custom made orthotics, have never helped me, and in many cases they've caused serious injury to my feet. The only solution I've found is to be very careful in the shoes I shop for, which in my case means only two or three models (depending on the year I'm shopping) of Asics running shoes. When I find a good shoe, I tend to buy it over and over and over; I'm on something like my 20th pair of Asics Gel Cumulus running shoes for road work and easily my 15th pair of Asics trail shoes (their current model is called the Trabuco). The good thing about trail running is, given the softer surface, I can typically run at least 800 miles before the shoe is done; my road shoes are usually good for 500 miles tops.

    when I find a shoe I really feel comfortable in, I buy half a dozen pair or more. I’m hard on shoes, the heels run over quickly, and I spill stuff on the tops just as fast.

    Well it's not like Payless Shoes. I'm talking about a high end dedicated running shoe store. In my area we have Wasatch Running and that's what they cater to. I got measured at the toe and heel end. They brought out maybe 10 pair to try. They have an indoor walking path, stair case, and treadmill. I know marathon runners that go there exclusively. I have killer flat feet that hurt and with the shoes they helped me pick out I have zero pain. I also have some La Sportiva trail hiking shoes that you can almost walk up a straight cliff with grip and zero pain. I hiked in and out of Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon 4 years ago and zero foot issues. I'm overweight and not an athlete but well fitting shoes are so worth it.

    I say again shoe stores suck. Most women's shoes don't come in wide sizes!!! So can't get fit for what they don't make! I have to wear men's shoes, which don't fit the best.

    Me too. When I get a pair of shoes that are really sweet, fit and comfort wise I buy at least 2 or more pair.
