It is on my bucket list, but it would be at least 3 years away for me with the planned vacations we already have planned. I still kick myself in the butt for not taking R&R there 52 years ago. Very stupid decision on my part.

I am not familiar with today's motorcycles but back in the day Harley made a sleek stripped-down sportster. Seem to remember the center of gravity was lower and the operator sat a little lower in the saddle. I am pretty sure you have already looked into that option.

Good morning, I was really dragging yesterday but I muddled through and went to bed early. A decent night's sleep with two 4-hour blocks of sleep and a 2-hour block at the end. Today is busy, grocery shopping, car wars, dropping off house key for the cat sitter, guitar practice time and cooking pasta for dinner. Going to a music festival at a brewery on Saturday and we are staying at my sister's beach home for the weekend. The festival actually sells a non-drinking ticket, perfect for the designated driver I am.

A friend from Sacramento, Rod Sorenson, still rides his KTM990. Beast of a motorcycle, and has done numerous Alcan Rallys on it.

He got the Iron Butt Award for 830 miles in one day. He'd fit right in with this group.

When I lived in San Jose, I used to ride up to Sacramento "The long way." No freeways, Altamont pass. Every back road. Pre GPS days, so
maps and landmarks and navigate. W grew up doing "Time-Distance-Rally," so I got to know every back road. Just a fun drive.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Think it's get the crate, run some errands, and start trimming and herding plants to the greenhouse. They all get a haircut to make space! Will be nice not to be up and down that ladder over and over and.....

I've had many motorcycles over the years. I had a motorcycle before I ever had a car. 1st road bike was a suzuki 500 twin 2 stroke, gold in color. Favorite was a Honda 350 twin, rode that damn thing everywhere, lol. I've had big touring bike like the gold wing 1800, big bmw, etc. The bmw taught me that I'll never own a bmw anything because their parts are just ridiculous expensive. So I've been saving my pennies and started looking at bikes again, I want something new that I don't have to wrench on all the time. Not sure what I'm going to go with yet, might even get a big maxi scooter. My must haves are cruise controll, windshield, luggage or saddle bags, and heated grips because I'm in a northern climate. Problem is even getting a bike as they are the same as vehicles, unobtanium. If I have to order one so be it, I did that with my taco. The eicma show was just held and a bunch of new bikes have been announced. Price is also a factor, I hopefully won't go over 12k and I would like less. I have time, I'll make a decision end of winter or early spring. I don't have to have the biggest, baddest, fastest, just practical and that gives me what I want at a fair price. I really don't want to go down that used road again, I work to much to be wrenching on a bike all the time.

I sold my last bike when we got pregnant. Promised myself I wouldn't buy again until my last kid (#2) graduated from high school. Anticipation built as my son got closer to being out of school and as soon as he graduated I went shopping. I'd never had a Harley but I liked the look and the culture so I ended up with a "SOLD" sign on a Night Train. I was excited. All I could think of was painting the tank and fenders bright yellow like my favorite bike in the past, and riding to feel the temperature changes that you can't feel in a car... girlfriend on the back clutching me.
    And then reality.
My back is not in the best shape. To put it truthfully... I chickened out. I got old and my priorities have changed. I called up the dealership and told them they could sell the bike to someone else.
    And I've never regretted it.
I still get the urge once in a while. I miss the wind on my face and the lean into a set of curves. But I've got plenty of other things going on.

And as time goes on I like the Harley culture much less. My son deals 21 in Deadwood, 20 miles from Sturgis, and works as security for the Buffalo Chip during the rally. Our ranch was north of Sturgis and we had a house three miles uphill of Deadwood. Now that we've left the state I go there often to play poker, sometimes during the rally. It is amazing how many of the "bikers" look alike and it's kind of sad seeing them carrying plastic bags around full of tourist gift shop trinkets made in China. I would never buy black leathers. The rally has become too commercial. Not enough guys with jeans caked in grease that they've slept in for months. Too much money and chrome.

I don't have anything against Harleys, I like the machines, just not the cost. The culture is not me either. I ride motorcycles but I'm not a biker. I don't have a single tattoo on my body, it's God's canvas not mine, lol.

Plan now Tom. I would figure on a month minimum:D. Big country and a lot to see button little time to see it all (might have to come back in the future to see more.), didn't get to the northern territories.

Have a great veterans day folks and a big Thank You to all who served:yes:.

So, I just dawdled along. Moving some pots, adding some soil. Going to be cold, but not near freezing. So, I still got haircuts to go. Showered, and turn on the weather, and NOW we get a freeze Saturday night? With sub-freezing wind chill? Yet, the average last freeze "moved" all the way to Dec. 1. I had just planned to put the little stuff away tomorrow. Now, looks like everything out back needs to be done by Saturday morning. MOST of the stuff is collected below.

    Evening all:

Yup, you have a pretty GD there Mark!

    Nothing's going right :annoyed:!
Had a dental app. this morning, so we didn't go hunting, buddy called and asked about going out this afternoon and we decided to go and hunt till dark. On the way, we get halfway up a mountain and they have the road closed due to an accident that took a pole off, so we had to backtrack and take an alternate route. OK, stuff happens, but they could have had the road shut down at the base of the mountain and not where they did. There are very few houses along that road, and they could have let people that lived there access their homes since the pole was at the VERY END of the road where we would have had to make a right turn to get to our hunting spot.
THEN, my buddy had a small doe in range that kept looking back, he was hoping that a buck was trailing and then the doe took off and he didn't see a buck! We are running out of time and neither one of us really wants to be out with the rifle, but not looking good, plus now the remnants of hurricane Nicole will be passing through.:annoyed:

Why EVERYTHING must be done by Saturday night, hopefully all done tomorrow!! Saturday burgers too! What was a mediocre day is now coming brutally ugly!
Game time temp now predicted 40* and dropping as it goes, with strong North winds. Sounds like running game to me!
