HA! Finally found another use for some of that rescue stuff I carry around for little reason. First time I used my splitter, I discovered it can be a fairly good log launcher - aiming is quite random though. Today, I wanted to know if I can break it down further for kindling. But what might I have to stop flying wood?

Just enough weight to keep things in place! It's even color matched!

    Afternoon all:

Drive a Tesla and stop pollution o_O, just don't hit any debris on the highway. The article said it took 12,000 gal. of water to extinguish the fire due to the lithium batteries.

I didn't forget to look this up - certifications. I have a "Travis" (brand) insert. The BEST website for info was Regency: Regency Fireplace Products | Gas Inserts, Wood Stoves, & More! (regency-fire.com)
Like many things, there are really far fewer factories than brands!
Mine is, like most certified to this:
    20221116_172530.jpg
    EPA 2020 Certified
An EPA-certified heater has been independently tested by an EPA-accredited laboratory to determine if it meets the emissions limit of 2 grams per hour. There are many Government rebate programs available for changing out your old wood heater to an EPA-certified wood heater. Check the promotions page and save money by switching to a Regency!

What you WON'T get is that smoky smell in the room. Once you close the door, it's a sealed system. There is no flue. You move where the smoke goes to control starting and heat. Once you have a fire, you close the door, adjust your temp and fan, and that's it.

I'm thinking they should go the way of the Pinto!
Seems like they can catch fire while charging, in accidents, hitting road debris, and while just sitting there, maybe it's time to come up with plan B for Tesla's, it just seems like they have more of a problem with this than the other EV manufacturers.

    yeah, well....nobody's perfect!

"In a statement issued today, Ford has recalled about 2 million F-150 pickup trucks in North America because of reports of a seat belt mechanism starting fires inside the vehicle. Ford has stated that they are currently aware of 23 reports where smoke or fires broke out inside the vehicle."

Didn't mean that to sound like I'm reading it now. It's the Lithium Ion battery at real issue; it is everywhere, and can burn watches, laptops, EScooters, you name it. But, Tesla, as a mfg. of ECars, DWARFS the others, so from a "statistical news" standpoint (and overactive press), it makes disproportionate news. Here's 2022 sales of EV in the US. Makes a better picture.

Battery powered hand tools don't seem to have overheating issues. Or at least I've never heard of them bursting into flames.

Oh, I had a 73 Pinto Wagon for years. Every time it got rear ended (three times total), it got modded with different body parts and colors. Ultimately, ended up spray can black with a cowcatcher spoiler on the front, blacked out windows (from the spray paint) to make it a sedan delivery, Hooker headers, and a carb jet swap that make it idle like a Harley. Quick little sucker!

I'm looking to see a giant lawsuit against Tesla for it's multiple problems. But then, the Govt would probably decide Tesla is "too big to fail" and shoot down any action against it.

About water on a fire, that depends on what kind of fire it is, and they've already said that moisture causes lithium batteries to catch fire... What about foam like they use at airports?

    Quick answer:
Can you use foam on electric car fires?

Additionally, even if it was possible to get the foam inside the box and flood the area with foam, the foam's main purpose is typically to starve a fire's oxygen supply, but a lithium-ion battery cell does not need external oxygen to burn. Consequently, foam is ineffective at stopping a thermal runaway.
