How do you choose a hearing aid?

I've heard that besides the technological issues of quality and battery/rechargeable and size/appearance... the more important issue is how they work to solve your individual hearing issues. I guess volume is not the only problem aids solve? What determines the best hearing aid for a specific hearing anomaly? Is there a good place to learn about hearing as it relates to finding the right hearing aid?

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue Well, I put off the greenhouse so I'd have something to do this morning. Other than go to the liquor store, and get the truck washed. Oh, a friend of Carol's bought "solar panels and stuff" - so I might have to run and inspect it. They are in the city, and didn't realize that they have to permit it, submit at least a one line plan, have a licensed installer, structure inspected, etc.... And, they don't even know what they have! "Her mother bought it".

Personally, I use a good Audiologist. Ever since I started with hearing aids. It's more than just volume.

    Good Morning Porch folks :hattip:

My last aids were battery and I had spare batteries in my pocket always. Because they were not as efficient as they are today, the battery always started going dead at the most inopportune time . Had them for 5 years and finally figured I need to get new ones. Giving the rechargeables a try, I am happy so far (after two years ) I am still able to get up to 16 to 17 hours before needing a recharge. As technology changes, so do the hearing aids. One more year and I will be getting new ones (if the need to upgrade is warranted). Waiting on your review Mark .

"How do you choose a hearing aid?" Eeenie Meenie Minee Moe...just kidding on choosing a hearing aid. Finding a good Audiologist is a must. They will suggest a hearing aid that will fit your needs (generally one that they handle). Research and read reviews is always the best way to help choose. My Phonak are a good choice for me because of the technology they have. The audiologist gives you a hearing test (not just the beep test but also a word recognition test) and then with the computer program from the aid manufacturer, they can adjust the ranges from your test to fit your needs in the aids. Then after about a week, you go back and they will tweek them for the best hearing experience. If needed, I can contact my audiologist and set up a time where she can connect online to troubleshoot issues or make adjustments. Buying hearing aids is like buying just about anything as there are good ones, mediocre ones, or bad ones. Finding the one that fits your needs is your choice and hopefully it will last with no major issues.

    Have a good one all.

    Afternoon all:

Hope you enjoy the trip to the ocean Tom, watch out for them sharks.

FINALLY: we got a deer this morning. Only a doe, and an easy one since I was only sitting about 40 yds. from the truck watching a hollow, but better than nothing and the season closes tomorrow. Tomorrow I will have the Jr. hunter sitting with me, he can still shoot a doe and I can still shoot a buck so if either comes by we have the bases covered.

Pulled the ladder out of my archery area. Lack of acorns turned my usually good spot ice cold this year.
I'll get out and ground hunt with the crossbow a few more times in the next few weeks, hopefully with snow on the ground.
My shotgun only area of public ground was great for me this year.
Got a double on Nov 18, buck and doe, and another buck on Thanksgiving morning.
Freezer is quite full, and that's what really matters.
Wish I could get out with the Flinter, but it's nearly impossible for me in my area.

    Good morning all.

Headed this morning to a Toys For Tots event sponsored by the Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island Tacoma World crew. A great event every year...we'll fill an enclosed (think landscaping) trailer with toys for the disadvantaged. Great cause and great opportunity to see our Tacoma friends and meet new friends we've only known online.

Good morning all, enjoying a cloudy day waiting for 15"+ of snow in a couple days. Has anyone used lay down vynl flooring I found some 6 mil thick stuff that can be laid down over anything. Thinking of pulling up my old worn-out kanga back carpet in a home office and possibly putting corner dots of construction adhesive to keep it from lifting but not necessary seems to be the only option I have unless I hire someone to put down click together flooring. If I had use of my left arm it would be no problem. But I have a torn left rotator cuff and can't have surgery for 2 months because the cardiologist says it's to early since 3 stints.

Glad you found the Amazon bargains - wife had sent me some on-line site, and I said "uh-NO" to that price. I can vouch they will stay on at highway speeds, even if it doesn't seem like it.

Pics upcoming. I need a nap!

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Last night, I was about to "hit the hay" (go to bed), and I went back to the start of this thread and skim read through some of th early posts. I was suprised at the number of you friends that were on here back then -now I know who the really long-termers are. I would have "qualified" back then, but unfortunatly I knew nothing about Tacoma world then, as I did not arrive here till 2017. I browsed only the first 30-40 pages.
There was one guy that caught my attention and I would love to ask a question of him. His Name was "River Rat 69".
He was last seen on this website in 2015. anyone know what happened to him?
Also congrats to all you early settlers on this thread -you know who you are -glad you are still around to enjoy this thread as much as I do!

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/water heater experts. We have a tankless, 10 years old and I have never serviced in any way. I guess I'm in for a surprise? We got tired of replacing tank heaters every few years -- not to mention the mess when they failed -- so tankless was a much better option for us. Hard water isn't our problem, acidic water is.

A good audiologist is a must, I agree! I've worn hearing aids since the 1990's. I've always used an audiologiist, and always one working in an ENT's office. The key for me is being able to see the audi for their part of ear care, and the ENT for theirs. I have frequently been to see one and have them get me in to see the other while I'm there, to make sure everything on both sides of my ear care is good to go.

Even if you don't go that far with your selection, do pick an audiologist that offers a wide variety of brands of aids. That way they aren't just fitting you with what they sell, they're fitting you with what works best for you.

Finally, it seems as though Costco has become a viable source of hearing aids. If it were my first ever fitting I'd still go the medical route, but for subsequent purchases they could be good. Also check with the VA if you're a vet; my dad got a fine pair of aids from them for $0 out of pocket.

Well, last Cars & Coffee for San Antonio until at least March. USMC was guarding the Toys for Tots collection in full dress, and guess where that great shot went? If you guessed "I don't know"; you are correct. Darn. Took a pic or two of Santa Hovering, but did I get there for the landing? NO! I'm a total failure. But, my ornaments stayed on LBR, and despite making it known on TW and the big Toyota FB group, I collected 2 RAV4's, a Lexus, and Eve from Leander with her 89. Oh well, more than last visit.

Here's Santa in the chopper - honest. And a fake of my great shot.

    On with the show!

That's all I got folks. There were a LOT of cars - like hundreds of Mustangs and Vettes - to the point of multiple rows of each - and it gets hard to pic a shot unless you love them. There were a LOT of people too - crowded around the cars, having to wait to get any pic - that lot must have been full too. Arriving the same time (at opening) I always do - it was the longest, slowest entry line I've ever been in. So, that's all until next year!
