When I need them I can never find any so now I keep at least 3 on the shelf in the picture and a couple more stashed in various other places. A lot of tools and things I can’t remember where I put them.

The cold and wind are on us here. Sun is out though. The end of the storm brought enough snow to coat the ground, but it melted off the driveway and sidewalk. Thermometer shows 8 degrees.

And the power is out. I'm starting to really appreciate that generator...

Had another downpour and the temps are dropping like a rock. Should be freezing up the roads in the next half hour.

Welp, glad to have a generator today. Power out and bitter cold all day. it was dark again, by the time power came back on. Not much sun in Jan. Genny worked well, paid for itself again today, but now the battery trickle charger bit the dust. New one ordered. I'll change the battery too, since it's getting old. Meanwhile, jumpers work. -12° this am, warmed up to -9°, back to -12° by 6pm. Parked the truck close to the generator, so I can jump it, if needed. I'll replace the battery, as soon as the new charger arrives. Delivery services slow right now.

Getting a price on a whole house automatic system. Our 30yr. trusted HVAC company sells, installs Kohler. ROI more than the cost, and the added peace of mind is priceless. I'll opt for their battery, block, oil, carb heat, that I know they offer. We saw -36°F here, in '93. Trees, poles, wires down, roads impassable. Took a week just to clear the road, so the line trucks could get in. Electric will be out if that happens again. Gotta keep that Keurig alive.

Good morning fellow Porchatonians!! Not much snow yesterday as the temps started to plunge - just enough to coat the ground. A thin layer of ice on the driveway - not sure we can navigate it today. Need some sun to heat the dark surface. Might be stuck here today. Sitting at 0 deg right now but the winds have calmed down. Be safe out there!!

    Morning fellow porch peoples.
From 48° yesterday to 9° this am.
Few trees broken yesterday so I hope nothing fell to cause damage to the house.
Not sure how much dried up before she froze so I’ll have to take a walk about in a few hours.
A little disappointed as we never lost power. Not even a flicker. Others around did but, I think it’s because I wanted to check out my power restore box.
Going to be a dangerous day with this quick freeze.
    Stay smart people.

Power is still out here. There are over a dozen small outages in our immediate area, according to the power company's outage map. Our particular situation is still in the queue to be investigated. Cable is out too; we're using the DSL line for connectivity.

Thermometer is showing negative numbers but officially it is 3 degrees F. Can't say I envy those line workers.

5.6° this a.m. Threw down some ice melt on the driveway last night when it dropped into the 30s. Haven't taken a look yet today to see if my plan worked.

I'll forget to take a tape in with me and start measuring something using a dollar bill. If I had a $ for every time I've explained "they're 6" long" I could probably...buy another tape.

20221224_074821.jpg Good morning. Got up at 6am to a 7 degree back yard. So cold I am having power issues in the back yard outlets. Going to plan "B" for a pork butt smoke cook today.

    WSM is firing up now.

We went from 54* yesterday to 2 below zero this morning. Good thing is it wasn’t really as windy as it was supposed to be and only about a half inch of snow!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Few degrees warmer this AM (17*), and not as cold for as long either. 25* and quickly rising now. The light wind really helped with the greenhouse temps, as they stayed where they should all night, only dipping once to 43*, and rocketing back up with the sun! Garage did better too, after I raised the temp a little bit (I'm really only heating and measuring a small area). Made a perfect, long burning fire last night, and the wife slept right through it! (Since she didn't adjust it; might be why). Just added a couple more splits before bed, and it looked like the pictures.
Son coming over to spend the night for Christmas. Just some clean up and odds and ends around the house, and we're ready! :santa:

24 in Ocala his morning. Currently a right balmy 32. The dog loves this weather, he’s bouncing around like he’s on springs but me, not so much. Im staying in and watching all the subtropical plants outside turn into mush from the freeze.

I didn't put the tank heater in, because I thought it wouldn't be cold long enough! No ice in the pool, the water is 42*!

    Good Morning Folks :hattip:.

Colder than my old bosses heart (he was a real sob) here. Had one flicker of lights but never lost power .
Getting the food ready for tonights dinner of ham, mashed potatoes, string bean casserole, pineapple souffle, corn and candied carrots. Then for desert we have light chocolate brownies, dark chocolate brownies, chocolate covered pretzels, Some kind of melted chocolate candy on butter pretzels, melted reeses peanut cups on butter pretzels, cookies, and my sons favorite marshmallow coated cornflakes with red hots candy. Then it's diet time .
In case I don't get back on, Deb and I want to wish everyone a Very MERRY CHRISTMAS :santa:. And be safe if traveling.

I always add this before the Christmas holidays.
