A little something every chance we get.
There is a "streak" on the map of outages; primarily from just South of Austin, through DFW, and to the Northeast corner. Tree limbs, and transformers. Basically, the map of the ice storm itself. Other outages are scattered. Just like we stayed mostly SE of the storm, we are mostly SE of outages. My son is in Austin, one of the lucky 3/4 with power.

So first test run of the dryer filter.
First 10 min you could feel the humidity change.
    After that, nothing.
Brought the temp up 12° in that section.
Left door open and raised the heated section 1°
Furnace did not start for 3 hours. Outside temp 19°
    I think we have a winner…

Thankfully power is still on. It warmed enough to start melting ice, but temperatures will drop shortly.

I was used to snow/ice when I lived in Germany. This is minor, but given 95% of Texas drivers don't realize these conditions mean slicker than snot ice on the roads, I'll stay home (note the driveway looks wet, but it's black ice.)

Must be a different Pacific Crest than I'm familiar with. There weren't any places on the one I hiked where any kind of four wheeled vehicle would have fit.

Agree. I’ve backpacked 100+ miles of the Pacific Crest Trail and it is purely a hiking/backpacking trail. Horses are allowed also. And it is a trail not a road. No motor vehicles. I’m not sure what they are referring to but the video is interesting.

I did a fifty miler on the Pacific crest through the Sierras that ended at Gold lake. No way a mountain bike could ride some of the steep passes. I always wanted to do the Mexico to Canada trip but never was in shape when I had time or time when I was in shape.

Good morning, everyone. Yesterday went by entirely too fast. A doctor's appointment in the middle of the day will do that for you. Today is an appointment with the Dietician. But first a trip to the gym. Grocery shopping today, it is seniors' day at Harris Teeter. Pork Butts are on sale for .99 cents a pound. Limit 2.

    Good morning all!

Should have figured after replacing our dishwasher in December that it was only a matter of time before the next appliance started acting up. Ordered a new stove last night. Appliances are mostly all the originals from when I moved in over 22 years ago. G/F was baking something a couple nights back when the oven shut off and had an error code on the display. It happened once before when she was baking Christmas cookies so we knew it was coming sooner rather than later. New stove should be delivered in about 2 weeks range top still working fine so we'll survive.

Clear and sunny this morning. Scary shadows for Phil, he’s back down in his burrow again. Looking at his lousy record of predictions lately, who shives a git?

This is not the Pacific Crest HIKING trail but a separate series of off-road roads up the Pacific Coast. Confusing name to say the least.

I've added the three gpx files. I can dump those into my Garmin Overlander. In the video, he comments, "oops, private land, hand to find another route," so use caution, but I know some of the California roads from my rally days. When I had time, I would find the most obscure routes from Sacramento, Tahoe, and Bakersfield. Often I needed a chainsaw or axe to get through a road; other times, have a locked gate (later learned from the forest service it was illegally installed by one of the lumber companies). We joked about putting door panels on the vehicle "California Mineral Society." The biggest worry these days are illegal to grow farms.

    Source of the files:
    https://overlandjournal.com/overland-routes/

Friends in Sacramento ride overland dirt bikes. As the video pointed out, one point was just a hair too narrow for a Tundra-sized vehicle but it should be fine for our Tacomas.
It would be fun to run as a support vehicle, have GMRS set up, and explore.
