My wife and I lived (as caretakers) on a horse farm up here in New Hampshire until about a year ago; whenever temperatures would get south of 10°F we'd keep the horses in the barn 24/7 until things warmed up. I talked with the family who owns the farm today; the horses were brought in early afternoon and will probably be kept in all day tomorrow, on Sunday the temperatures will be up in the mid forties so they'll go out. I might drive over there to watch, when they're first let out of the barn after a couple of days they are really funny. :)

Good morning fellow Porchatonians and welcome to the new folks!!

It's -6F here in northeast PA with a wind chill of '23. The dogs made quick work of doing their morning business when I took them out a few minutes ago.

We're at 12°F this morning, better than expected. Thankful to be a bit southwest of the worst. Hope no one has furnace issues today. No outside work planned. Maybe just enjoy the fireplace. Forecast 47°F this afternoon.

Good morning. Welcome Charlie and @seaturtle . I am 73 and a half, so getting closer to 80, I guess. The knee replacement posts are interesting. My orthopedic doc is not recommending a knee replacement but when I talked to my GP doc, he said I should consider it. I was asking him for a permanent Disability placard for me and not the temporary one, which I currently have. Truthfully my left knee, bone on bone does not have any pain, just a discomfort when going up stairs. I will probably be asking questions as I do the research. Right now, I am concentrating on taxes. I have all the documents together and an appointment with the tax accountant this Tuesday.

15 degrees here this morning. The wind was blowing all day yesterday as the front moved through the area. Gym opens up at 8 and I will be there. I need to keep up with the cardio.

    Yea isn’t fun.
-47° is nothing to sneeze at.
Had both faucets cracked last night.
New furnace is wide open. 60° downstairs 65° upstairs. That’s all she has. Going to add more fins in the baseboards downstairs thus summer. Lots of unused pipe….
    New furnace quirks..

Hard to comprehend that you could get on a plane to the Caribbean and in six hours have a 150° temp swing. 150? That doesn't even seem possible.

Nope in the Caribbean for the winter. Wife has thyroid issues and meds make her always cold. Even down here, she wears a light jacket or sweater at night. I personally would prefer being home, but "Happy wife, Happy life" rule applies here.

    Wouldn't think of it...

A month ago, I underwent a bone marrow biopsy, to nail down the exact cause of a marker that showed up in a blood test. A few days ago, I received a call from the Dr who did the procedure, who informed me that the test was positive for a rare type of lymphoma, one which is slow growing. At my age of 82, a slow growing cancer is not particularly troubling. A date was set for next Friday from a specialist who will provide answers to my questions. I've been reading up on info from the internet, which isn't all that helpful given that this thing is rare, but what does stand out is a list of possible symptoms, 4 of which I have had for some time with no explanation till now. These are debilitating symptoms, and constitute my concern rather than any fear of dying. I am ready for that, but not ready for my list of symptoms to further expand, robbing me of my remaining quality of life. It has only been a few days since I got the news, but already the different scenarios are becoming apparent, and I know that I must make some decisions. I would welcome an objective discussion, to be kept within limits excluding religious or legal considerations, and expressions of pity. I ask and request that moderators keep an eye peeled to keep it real, should it become necessary. Thank you.

If you decide to do this, set up a pm with others to do it. Then you would not have to worry about a trigger word.

Wow Glad you made it through that, becoming a living chew toy for that dog is something I would never like. You did say that you thought you were in better shape than you were. When my wife broke her shoulder in O'Hara we just got on our connection to Erie and went to the ER there. And she wasn't in that much pain either considering the damage. We made it the 4 nights we were in Erie and the plane ride home for a 3 day wait for replacement.

I didn't realize you guys got those brutal wind-chills in Maine I thought it was only us northern mid westerners. I remember my coldest ambient temperature ever was -50 no wind and to sit on the car seat outside was like sitting on a rock. The car started like it was plugged in all night, but it took a bit for the transmission fluid to flow to move.

Really can't like this Alan. Like Mike said, set up a PM with others. That way it won't set off a trigger word with the mods.
Just remember Alan we are here for you....

Oh damn! That looks so very painful.

Regarding being a living chew toy, I'm going to be laughing about that all day, thanks for the visual. :)
