    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!!

Great news on your wife's homecoming and successful surgery @ndoldman59 !!!

And, I'll pitch in the meaning of the acronym DILLIGAF = Do I look like I give a fu*k?

Here's another one that came from my time in the Army and reflected one's feelings at the end of a tour when frustrations got heavy but you were already slated for your next assignment. FIGMO = Fu*k it! Got my orders.

@ndoldman59 great the wife is doing better.PT will take some time but worth the effort.

Happy Saturday. Last week was great and I accomplished all my goals for the week. Looking like a great start for our trip to Florida next Tuesday. Today is off to the grocery store for a couple of chickens and then on to the gym. I think I am driving my wife and son to a winery for something today. I am not sure what I was volentold to do. The open mike night at Skippers Pier last night was pretty nice. Lots of talent and most were pretty good. The only bad aspect was the crowd noise for persons talking in the bar/music area. There is no sound suppression in the enclosed area, so it played havoc with my hearing aids.

    Morning all:

Good news about the wife @noldman, hopefully she will be back to normal in short order.

That would be a major accomplishment for me Tom! If I can get all my planned weekly projects completed in a month, I figure I'm doing pretty good!
I just replaced a hopper seat, the new one isn't as comfortable as the old one, they should let you try them out for fit before you buy one!

Good Morning 60+ Folks. Hope everyone has a good weekend lined up.

Great news Alan. 5 more years and I'll be in the 80s club with you. Where did time go.
Just glad you are doing okay.

There was a video years ago where a young family was shopping in a home supply Store and their little toddler disappeared. They found him sitting on a toilet taking care of business. Maybe you could try it and they would just pass it off as being old. LOL but at least you would see how the seat fits.

    Have a good one.

    That's comical!
Guess I'll get used to it, but there is a difference, I have replaced several over the years and never really noticed a difference. I like the ones with the split front, but haven't seen them available locally in quite a while, if I absolutely wanted one e-bay has plenty of them listed.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch pals & Sue! Time to unload and spread some of that mulch around in this chilly sunshine. And, happy to say, the new solar lights are pretty good now that they have close to full charge. I'd been buying those cheap spots on stakes at WM, and clamp them to the fence, and it works great. But last year, the "quality" just went to crap. 100% of last years replacements went dead before even a year. So, on to something else. Maybe I will get a few more up today.

Those of us that spend our time doing a bit of "restoration" know about tracking down elusive part no.s and parts ..... My mom had a hip joint wear out the ball and socket. The prosthetic hip has (had) repair parts available - 27 years previous when it was installed. But the 50+ year old surgeon who installed it is long gone, and the hospital where it was installed (changed hands) wasn't any help in finding a record. Knowing the make, model and serial number is a big deal because a repair is way better for the owner than a damage prone second replacement. The young man who was trying to get the thing identified used every kind of NDT technique available to gain useful information. Eventually - and nearly a year down the road (this was a painful delay) - he found out the relevant info, a combination of knowledgeable older surgeons looking at images and a dedicated searcher in the hospital records vault. He then employed some sort of medical detective agency to find a surplus, new in the box, (now obsolete) joint and amazingly........they found one in southern Illinois. With new old parts in hand - he fixed the joint, ma survived the surgery and got some good years out of it.

Hard lesson - when work like this is done - keep your own copy of the parts list!

Good day all, thanks for all your responses, First she is doing okay and was sent home yesterday afternoon. Well I can't quite wrap my mind around the medical industry but it makes no sense. We were told she would be in till Sunday 20 hrs after surgery out the door. Because she walked across the room with a walker, climbed 1 step and pooped. Hardly enough time to practice to make sure she could do it. At the time of release no place to get good equipment, toilet riser and good gait belt. The tub is going to be a small challenge, of I had a useable left arm I would be able to swap the tub and plumbing. She is doing good though. My brother said we should have had home needs assessment. My 2 biggest challenges are going to be the tub and bed. Tub entry and exit. Bed hight what we have is either to high or to low. My wife is 4' 8''

Rigid Bronchoscopy. Pulled it out with forceps. The crown had a little lip on it so the forceps got it. The dentist was very appreciative.

Your insurance MAY cover someone to help. Not that uncommon in Medicare. You should call if you haven't. Said people are good at making what you need appear too.

Thanks, I figured someone would have experience. MY brother is 76 and has had some experience with this. We've been kind of ok with every up till these unexpected mishaps. I kinda asked about some assignment but was told since I was in the home we weren't eligible but my brother said different. It will be a learning experience.

Bed. You don't need box springs, so think of a sheet of plywood raised off the floor blocks. Adjust the height and "X the frame" for stability.

Another classic was an axe handle mounted on the headboard. It was something to grab to make it easier to get out of bed.

When I was doing rehab after my knee replacement, getting down into and back out of the recumbent trike was a challenge. The little children's swing worked just fine as I tossed a tow rope around that I could use to help pull myself upright.

A friend got a "walk-in bathtub" for his wife with Parkinson's. They thought it would be a great idea. Walk in, and shut the door (water pressure holds closed tight). Disaster. It takes too long to fill and drain, so you're either waiting forever to get it filled or freezing while it drains. A winch came to the rescue. Red Green Engineering at its finest with a sling (put it over your head and arms) hoist helps support the person as they stand up; they still have to step over the tub, but then helps lower them onto a chair.

It's not stupid if it works!

Showers: My first shower was six days after knee replacement. I hadn't quite recovered from blood loss; a hot shower is a great way to pass out! Yikes. Cool water is better; too hot and you get flushed (blood rushes to the surface, but down you go!).

You need help with all this. Hospitals have social workers that can guide and direct you through just about everything. Contact the hospital and inquire about discharge follow up and guidance. Contact your doctors office and see what they can do for you and what advice they can give you. Medicare will pay for most of the medical equipment and appliances but you need a doctor to authorize it. The walker, toilet riser etc etc should at least be partially be covered by Medicare as long as a doctor authorizes it. Call the hospital and your doctor, you need and deserve assistance. The whole process is too complicated and complex for the average person to deal without professional assistance.

Good to hear your wife is out and doing well. Hips being the largest and densest of human bones makes it a faster recovery and healing, but yes, you should be eligible for home health care. My wife recently had hospitalization, and when sent home, my being her only care provider at home, and being disabled myself qualified her for home health nurse.
Your bed height may well be adjustable. Ours was a standard adjustable metal frame and Cal King mattress/box spring, being too tall for my wife to get into. I simply removed the wheels, which lowered the bed about 2 1/2", enough for the recommended air circulation space below, but too low for shoes under the bed. By the way, just bought a new mattress. How times have changed on mattress construction: Cal King came in a box smaller than a 50 gal drum. Out of the box, actual size more like a 30 gal drum, the mattress had been vacuum packed to about 1 3/4" thick, then folded once, then rolled like a doobie, finally wrapped in shrink tape. This thing has an unheard of 25 year warranty, with a one year money back guarantee. I'd tell you the name but then I'd have to kill you, besides, it's made in Los Angeles, so maybe not available nationwide. No box spring, we're using the old one.
Another good product, very helpful, available on Amazon, there's a bed rail that slips under the mattress, and is very stable, no wiggles.61b-1k17FML._AC_SL1500_.jpg

I see @roundrocktom has mentioned adjust height by using plywood for a bed. I've done platform beds a lot over the years and they're great. But a sideways "H" instead of an "X" is better for storing stuff under the bed.

Hmmm... electric water heater, two showers, hot water should last, but running out towards the end. Elements check ok, both 13 ohms. Bottom element working, top not. Must be a thermostat. I'll change both. Easy enough, while it's open. High limit control gets changed too, since it's part of the top thermostat. This time I remembered to set them to 120°F before installing. Easier.
Success! Cheap $23 fix. I shudder to think what this repair would cost hired out these days. I've mastered holding a small flashlight in my mouth, for just such occasions.

Grateful long-term memory can pull up some of these things.

Great to read this morning. Being at home is the best cure for healing.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday. Since it is Darwin Day today, I was wondering if the Kansas City or Philadelphia police departments will be hosting a Super Bowl party for criminals they would lie to capture.

Off to the gym is a few minutes. I wanted to get in an extra day of aerobic exercise before driving to Florida this week. Our son will be flying down on Friday to meet up with us in Tampa. Today we are taking him to the airport for a walk through of what to expect and how to deal with the airport. He has not flown since a vacation to Italy in 2013. He was 13 YO at the time. Still waiting for someone to tell me what they would like me to prepare for dinner tonight.
