Afternoon, everyone!! SOrry I didn't get on this morning - I was away all weekend and had a bunch of catching up to do.

The match was a blast! We shot on the USMC sniper range at Quantico. A beautiful range with firing berms from 100 to 1000 yards.

2 days - shot individual on day one at 300 and 600 yards. 20 second exposures of the target. Then on day 2 we had an individual match at 600 yards with 25 minutes total for unlimited spotter rounds and then 20 rounds for record. Then we shot a team match where each member of the team engages 10 targets with 20 second intervals. Lots of fun.

I've never shot much beyond 250 yards - so this was fairly new to me. I did well at 300 on day 1 - 197 out of 200 with 6 Xs. Then I moved to 600 and the winds kicked in - 164 with 1 X. Not bad for a beginner though.

Day 2 was different - I made two rookie errors that cost me/us. The Mosin Nagants are notorious for having screws loosen. As I started shooting the 600 on Sunday I was getting erratic adjustments - shouldn't have been much change since Saturday as the winds were not that different. I though I was adjusted, went to record fire and had a target miss on the first round. As I looked up to load - I noticed my scope rock to the side, reached up and found the thumb screw was loose. Tightened it, moved the scope knobs back to Saturday's marks and scored well after that.

Then we shot the team 300 and I did well - 96 out of 100 with 1 X - not as good as Saturday but I was spooked. Then we packed up and moved to the 600 yard line. I got a few sighting rounds and set my rifle in the case as I shot second in the order. Plopped down when it was my turn and took a miss on the first target. I was stumped...and then noticed that somehow my windage sclae had moved - probably when I set it in the case. I should have checked before starting to fire. By the time I realized it, and fixed it, I missed getting a shot at the 2d target. Pure rookie errors.

But, even with the problems, we proved that these "cheap" Soviet 70 year old snipers can hang with the big dogs.

I have a few pictures I'll post later tonight.

    Morning everyone!!

I hate those early morning no sleep sessions, Jim! Seems like I have more as I get older.

I'm heavy in thought today remembering the friends and colleagues I lost in the Pentagon 11 years ago. Heading off to drop the flag to half mast.

Sounds like a great time this weekend Mark.

Also remembering those that paid the ultimate price on 911.

Well I am off to the garage to install an integrated XM receiver into my Pioneer HU in the Tacoma.

Baking pound cakes for a school fundraiser today and doing laundry.

The XM radio install went very smooth yesterday, even the soldering of the cable from the antenna plug in the wiring junction to the cable that goes to the XM receiver. Both cables have unique one of a kind connectors. ;)

Fired it up and everything worked as it should.

Back up camera mod is one of the nicest I have done to the Tacoma.

    Buy a quality cam!
