:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! :hattip:
Got home early enough to actually spread some mulch yesterday, but right after I got started, my back hurt a bit, so I sat down with a pill for a minute. One nap later, cured having to spread some mulch! Chilly and windy today, so, I'll get a round to it. (Yes, I possess Round tuit).

Got an email that cracked me up overnight - never seen anyone work so hard to simulate spam/scam!

    "Your account is blocked.
Verify and update your information now to unblock your account

    Hi Kurt,

Under the USA PATRIOT Act, we are required to verify and update customer account information. Over the past several months, we have reached out to you to have you update this information, but we have not received any response from you.

As mentioned in our previous communications, we asked that you verify and update the personal information in your account profile. As a result, your account has been blocked. To resume using your account, it is important to do this as soon as possible.

Failure to verify and update your personal information will result in your account remaining blocked. Therefore, you will not be able to use your account for purchases, balance transfers, or cash advances, and automatic bills from merchants will be declined. Please note, you will continue to be charged any applicable annual fees and be responsible for payment on any outstanding balances in accordance with the terms of your Cardmember Agreement.

If you have recently verified your data online or through our customer care center, please disregard this notification. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the number on the back of your card."

Well, I do possess the card, and I have not gotten ANY prior contact from them, but I got online directly to my account. Damned if that same warning isn't there on log in. So, I fill out some blanks, and it's all good. But really, PATRIOT ACT? Mr. Google says:

Section 326 of the USA PATRIOT ACT requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account or changes an existing account. This federal requirement applies to all new customers and current customers.

You know, most banks just stick a link on-line or send a normal message to please review/update your information.

So you are saying that you clicked on it and answered questions??? Or are you saying you realized the email was a scam and ignored it???

I would never respond to that and would never even open the email.

It was in regular mail, and with a proper email address as sent from. But I didn't click anything in the email. I went directly to the bank site I have bookmarked. It was all on the up and up, but a very abnormal way of getting there.

My next door neighbor, a smart educated person fell for this as a phone call scam. I'd never ask the $ amount but it was enough that she considered consulting an attorney...so it must have been considerable. The scam nvolved multiple phone calls and two separate individuals posing as her bank.

Good morning all, It's a beautiful morning the day after passing a kidney stone for sure. I'm glad that's over with for now.

I was sad to see the passing of Rachel also. Just last week I watched "100 Rifles" and though to myself that she was one of the most beautiful women to be put on the silver screen. If I'm old, everyone else is also older. I enjoy watching old Westerns once in awhile. Most of the actors are long gone now.

Today I get to install a new washer and dryer my son and his wife bought. It's a brainless act of service but I get to hold my 3 month old grand-daughter after so I'm excited.

    Have a great day everyone.

So one of my favorite YouTube channels is Scammer Payback. He scams the scammers, downloads their files, deletes their database, and helps authorities arrest scammers. Most are from India. I'm a retired IT Director and dealt with protecting government employees from external threats and fraud. One setting everyone should have disabled on their computer is Remote Desktop. Scammers get less skilled computer users to install remote desktop applications like Anydesk, Bonjour, and others. There is rarely a need for the average PC user to have those applications installed. They are used by large companies to manage company owned computers remotely. Some help desk companies will use them. On a Windows computer I would encourage everyone to go into Settings | System | Remote Desktop and then make sure "Enable Remote Deskop" is OFF. Don't ever install anything on your computer for a "customer service" agent. EVER! Especially Anydesk or similar. If you have elderly parents, friends, or neighbors, help them get that setting to OFF.

    Carl,
They are actually copies of one of the old Goo-Goo Eyes models.
I have several of the originals including a large "Ketchup Bottle" swimmer.

My lure making and rifle building mentor was an interesting man.
On the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings, in the middle of a Mauser build,He started to open up about his time in Europe.
First wave at Omaha. He never told anyone till he spoke to me. It was an honor to listen to him.
He did see Private Ryan, and said the landing scene was pretty accurate.
He always liked M1 Carbines as one saved his life in the Bocage when it took the hit of shrapnel from an 88.
He ended up deep in CZ when the shooting stopped and told of the endless lines of Germans heading West ahead of the Red Army.
Sadly, he passed several years ago.

I had the pleasure of meeting, and listening to, a man that landed at Normandy. It was at a local grocery store, and he had a WWII hat, so I started a conversation.
He said a Dr he met, locally here, helped calculate his mileage, based on his story.
He walked about 600 miles after landing.

My Dad fought his way across Europe with Gen. George Patton. Watching WW2 movies with him was like getting an intelligence briefing. Lost him to cancer in 1986 at only 65 y.o.

Back in 2010 I had the privilege of an hour flight on Liberty Belle, a B-17. One of the men there that day was a B-17 crew member who spent seven months in a POW camp after being shot down. In the pre-flight briefing we were told the B-17 was capable of 300 mph. He laughed and said "the only time we ever did 300 was when we were headed for the ground"

I have CRS, so I have to put things in a safe place so they don't get lost. Problem is, I have too damn many safe places and can't remember where they all are. I bought some plastic body mount clips to replace the headlight lenses on my Honda Element. I distinctly remember putting them up for safe keeping. Now that the weather is permitting, I found the new headlights in the garage, but have to reorder the clips 'cause they're in a safe place.

My stepfather was a B-24 pilot in the Pacific; he said he flew 60 some missions and never once saw a Japanese airplane. He did say the flack he encountered was some pretty scary stuff and he came back in with one or two engines inop on more than a few occasions. Given his relationship with "the bottle" it is hard to know what was the truth and what was fantasy; but there were plenty of mementos which support most of his stories.

I fought the wind, and wind won. Tomorrow is only breezy - so I hope the work will be.

I'm having to replace my old A20 phone, it's always dropping JUST the internet. Fix after bandaid after change every setting in your world. Anyway, it came. So, I wanted to charge it while I worked. Only one problem... no charger. They did provide a C to C cord, but I have no adapters for that.
Chatted up Consumer Cellular - they specialize in old folks, right?
    20230216_130437 2.jpg
Oh, it doesn't come with one.
    ....says it does
Samsung no longer includes one because they are going to wireless charging
....good for them - this one isn't wireless
    Well, it's a Samsung thing
....but it's your name on all the packaging
Well, you can find them at WamNart, Amorezon, and our fine retailers
....so you are saying I can spend more money, because Consumer Cellular isn't going to provide one?
So, can I help you with anything else?
.... yes. Make a sticker that goes over the CHARGER BELOW that says "go on-line, find the info that no one prints anymore, look up the proper charger and cord type and go buy it yourself". Can you please do that?

Dad was on a Destroyer Escort in the Atlantic, but late in the war after the majority of U-Boats were gone. . After VE day, his group was on their way to the Pacific for the Japan invasion. 3 days out of Pearl, the bombs were dropped and they turned around.
My Uncle was an Amphibious Engineer. Landed at Normandy couple weeks after D-Day and did his Euro Tour as well.
He was at Remagen when the bridge collapsed and is probably in one of the old newsreels.
