:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Happy Friday!
A lot of yard feeding done yesterday, and even got the RAV4 inspected. Sloppiest job ever by a different place - no horn, turns, brakes - but still wanted to sell me an air filter! Go get the sticker, some errands and washes, and fix the smoker switches today.

I tried extenders. As others have reported, that’s a band aid. Tacking one system piggyback onto another puts the brakes on. I then put in a Deco Mesh system. You can add on to a mesh anywhere you need to, all becoming one integrated system. I’ve got coverage from property line to property line now. One important thing to remember about any system is to place the units to avoid metal being in between the units. Water heaters, furnaces, heater ducts, air conditioner units, any metal will block the signal. The beauty of a mesh is you can zig zag around in placing them wherever. Walking your property then, your device will pick the signal from the strongest source automatically.

Aluminum siding? Probably will block the signal also. What helps also is to have Ethernet connections between devices, so the y communicate flawlessly. The metal blockages then only apply to connecting to portable devices like cel phones.

Yeah... lol... sometimes the perceived benefit doesn't justify the learning curve necessary to find out whether something will even work.

Verizon just recently stopped supporting Gen 3 network extenders. A few weeks before the date, I turned mine off.
There was absolutely no difference that I noticed.
Not going to get a Gen 4.

If that's the case, I'd suggest you use a neat invention called "Land Line". If you're lucky, you'll get a nice lady to answer with "Number please?"

Mesh systems FTW. They almost have a little ethernet plug on the back too. Put one near the facing wall to the shed. 75 feet or so of cable in skinny PVC, shallow trench. Connect inside shop. That'd work. I have 4 of the little Tenda cubes around the house, Works great. Of course, Spectrum internet actually has to work right, but the WiFi is always there.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/techno wizards. We've been splitting wood and hauling it off the neighbor's property so I'm a little behind in the thread. The taco earned its way over the past few days!

Mesh networks are the way to go, but do try to get Cat5/6 to as many of them as possible to use for backhaul. Using whatever wireless bandwidth happens to be available for all communications can introduce roadblocks. That said, if you're not downloading the digital equivalent of War&Peace you may not notice. ;)

I set up a TP-Link system here which has been awesome so far. It's not for everyone because it does require a bit of techno geekery to set up. I like it because it has indoor and outdoor AP's, plus it is essentially infinitely expandable. I can ramble on at greater length if anyone is interested.

    Evening all:

Interesting video Ken, amazing what you will do for a $65,000 fish, there must be a lot more to that story, that fish looked pretty small to win that kind of money.

Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!! Snowed off and on from noon yesterday and still snowing lightly now. Not really sticking much on the road - just maybe an inch covering the grass. Nuisance snow. Stay safe!!!

I don't know too much about pro sport fishing and it's prizes but after seeing the video it looks to be rather profitable.

Have a good day and be safe

Alan: The problem I face is that I have Verizon FIOS TV and need to MOCA connection to the router in order to have the Verizon channel guide displayed on the TV screen. I have a Wi-Fi connected outdoor switch, electrical plug, and my smoker uses Wi-Fi to communicate to the phone app. I figure for $30 it will be worth the effort. If I do not like it, I will implement a Synology mesh solution.

Good morning. Off to the gym then I need to pick up a birthday cake from the baker. Wife and son are going to a concert tonight so I will probably watch a movie.

    Morning
Another n’easter coming Tuesday. I’m seeing less and less of my boat.
I had bare ground a few weeks ago. This really needs to stop….
Playing with fishing poles now. I have 21 and I’m running out of things to do with them too. Lol
    Stay safe and carry on..
