    Another question...

Has anyone had cataract surgery and had the corrective implants done? What kind of experience have you had?

I've seen the surgery center twice now and they don't inspire confidence. I've worn glasses since I was eight and would dearly love to ditch my glasses... but one guy I saw seemed oddly jittery and the second one seemed like he was insulted by me expecting him to do the surgery.

A three day old unit on startup after resting all night?

I thought that might be the case with the older unit. Dust and other build-up over time. But the brand new computer?

Had cataract surgery done and had one corrective lens for astigmatism put in. Lens cost me $2500 over what Medicare covered. Sorry I did it as my vision in that eye didn't get better like in my left eye with the standard lens. Find out what lens they use and research it on line. Good luck.

The laptop has a transformer between the wall receptacle and the device, polarity wouldn't matter. The laptop is running on direct current internally.

You can check a receptacle for correct wiring in seconds with a basic volt meter or 120 volt test light.

    You should find:
120 volts between hot (short side) and neutral (long side)
120 volts between hot and ground
0 volts between neutral and ground

    Receptacle-Wiring-120-Volt.jpg

You can buy one of these for under $10 in any hardware store. It has a small neon bulb, if you pump clear hot glue around the bulb it survives drops better.
Notice the long probes on the model pictured, some have "safety inspired" probes that are so short they won't fit in a standard receptacle.

Don't bother with one of these non-contact types, I have never seen one yet that I wanted to trust my life to.

In a one word answer, NO. Sounds like the fan setting in your PC are not correct. or like the poster said above something is blocking the fan vent.

I had a lens done in '21. Mine was for a developing cataract. Relatively uneventful recovery. In addition to improved vision in general, I noticed immediately that colors were far more vibrant. Unlike johneman, no glaucoma involved so I can't comment on that aspect.

So a coincidence that both the older and the brand new laptop have the same issue?

Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Well, we're 0.92" into two days of mostly rain. And, we need it too. Been nice with rumbles, and some lightning, and nothing severe. Sounds wonderful under this aluminum sunroom roof! Didn't do much yesterday, probably won't today either.

    Welcome aboard, Stevo!

And welcome back David. Find DISCOUNT TIRE on the vendors list, and DM them with your quote from wherever. 99% of the time I know of, they will match that, and you get all their services.

    Welcome as well! Which brought up Saturday night TV on Spectrum, Heroes & Icons Channel;
    Black Sheep Squadron
    Tour of Duty (2)
    Combat (2)
News and heading for bed, but....
Rat Patrol (2) (seen them all)
12 O'Clock High (seen them all - the show that couldn't decide if it was a soap opera or a war show)

I use all those commercials to move sprinklers around Saturday night, because that is one of our 2 watering nights.
Oops. Nice looking furniture Tom - I want to see the blue too! You know how HOT that kind of stuff gets down here!???

And I lost your quote @Ivanimal - nice landscaping work!!

Seriously - I'd return the new one, or take it back for inspection. Never had one of my many laptops do that ever.

    THIS above!!!

I've worked for Wally World and have been inside the general offices and heard some of the conversations being had. Also have had experience that confirmed those conversations being implemented. I don't buy anything from them that I have expectations of performance.

Toilet paper and coffee, and a few veggies is about it. There's a country song that mentions "seven VCRs from Walmart" and I suspect it was my experience that triggered that lyric.

    LOL...

You wouldn't believe the products I've personally tested out of curiosity from WM, just to see if they would fulfill an expectation of use. And the results have been pretty tragic. Thankfully the toilet paper has never come up as being questionable.

Laptop chargers are very forgiving of polarity and voltage fluctuation. 90 Watt power brick, Accepts from 90V to 240V AC and converts to DC voltage.

Cheaper laptops have little thermal management and a noisy fan. More expensive laptops have current measurements internally and adjust fans before the CPU and GPU get too warm.

Some nasty computer programs cause a computer to run non-stop, possibly overheating the CPU. Hence the high fan use. Often something like a simple weather add-on runs bit-mining operations in the background. So boot in safe mode, and add programs individually to find the culprit.

My wife has a horrible time adding crap to her computer, which then seems to run slowly. Hmm.

I have rainmeter running, so I can see CPU/Memory/Swap usage at a glance.

My wife just had both eyes done using Toric lenses to correct a severe astigmatism and they worked great. It's been a bit over a month and she is very happy. Not perfect vision but not far off which is great considering where she was. The surgeon, (Daytona Beach, FL) was excellent and the whole experience was fairly simple. The surgery center was run like clockwork and my wife considered it an excellent medical experience (and we've had some bad ones). The only drawback is Medicare does not cover the special Toric lenses. I encourage you to find a surgeon/center you're confident with. There are a lot of slipshod practitioners out there.

Don't go cheap. Get the best ophthalmologist you can and follow the before and after surgery instructions to the letter. Very important.

There are many eye surgery clinics that specialize in cataract surgery. This is a common procedure, actually performed with assembly line precision. This is what you want, experience counts. They will upsell you from standard lens to corrective lens, and from manual scalpel to computerized laser surgery. Both are well worth the extra expense. Do it now before your physical condition worsens with age, which may preclude any invasive procedure, as has happened with my wife. In my personal experience, I now only need over-the-counter reading glasses, my distance vision is excellent. One downside to cataract surgery is that it contributes to Dry Eye, which I consider to be a big deal, but worth dealing with as opposed to living with cataracts and blindness as they progressively worsen.

What Alan said is spot on. I’ve had cataract surgery, my wife has had it, most of the people I know our age have had it. No one I know has has any problems resulting from the surgery. Both my wife and I have 20/20 distance vision after the surgery ,(no glasses required for driving). We both use over the counter reading glasses for reading and close up work. We get them at Costco cause they are cheap there. Got them stashed all over the house, garage, vehicles. The surgery is quick, you are in and out and on your way home in an hour or so. Afterward you need to put drops in your eyes a couple times a day for 3 or 4 weeks. No pain, no discomfort, no problems. The alternative is to go blind without the surgery. Neither my wife or I have had any problems or side affects. No dry eye and I know no one who has experienced dry eye after the surgery. Dry eye can happen though after cataract surgery but it is generally temporary. (Not always) Dry eye is treatable with drops and also a special type of contact called a scleral lens.
The evening after my surgery I was able to see distance like never before. And yes colors are way more bright and vibrant.

could be electrical voltage spikes, doubtful since most laptops can run on multiple voltages. Do you have any obstructions around and behind the laptop?
And not to be flippant but the new laptops are pushed so far to the limit most run hot. But i can assure you an outlet wired backward is not your problem. An outlet only has 3 wires, Hot, neutral and ground. There is a correct way to wire the hot and neutral, but not really a wrong way to wire them.
