It took me a year of Saturday mornings to straighten up my parents bank accounts. They had almost 2 dozen separate accounts in a number of banks. Back in the day banks and savings institutions would give away freebies for opening new accounts like toasters and the like. I had to explain to my Mom that 10k gains more interest in a single account than 3k+ in three separate accounts. I used to take my son with me, Grandpa would buy him donuts and Grandma would feed him candy she had put away from 3 Halloweens ago!

Damn, glad you are ok. Might be a chiropractor visit or 2 to get rid of the headache. That could have been worse.

Thanks to this thread and great advice, my truck has new shoes!

Going to the Discount vendor page here on TW (as suggested by Oldie2007) with my lowest online price in hand, Jordan came back with a full install, out the door cost to me, nearly $200 lower than the normal Discount price... matching or beating Walmart's online price for the Hankook Dynapros.
What was even better, is that on a Saturday afternoon (today), the did it all in just 20 minutes! I have bought tires at Discount many times, and this was a record! Driving home on the freeway, over 70 mph, and the ride was smooth as glass, no wobble... a perfect balancing job with the tire mounting!

When I was working I never bought street tires for any of my vehicles.
I would run tires people threw away.
I would have to change them every year or two but they were free.
So I saved $1,000’s of dollars over 48years.

To be honest, I really don’t know how people can afford vehicles now.
    It’s so sad….

When we were kids, tires were good till you could see the cords. Then you’d replace them with good used tires from the back of gas stations.
You’re right. People can’t afford cars now. The economy fixers have got it so interest rates on new cars is up to 9% now.

Back in the day the gang went through a lot of tires. A couple of the guys worked at a Sinclair and watched for good discards. The fronts never wore out near as fast as the rear. Fronts might last, like you said, a couple of years... but the rears might last two weeks.

    Morning all:

Happy Easter everyone, and happy anniversaries to Travir and Bob.

Awhile back, I had posted that one of the guys I buy tires from asked me if I had too much money because I was replacing tires with decent tread left, nope, going hunting in Maine and I want to minimize the risk of getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere, someone probably could have ran those tires for close to 2 more years before they needed replacing.
At one time I scrounged tires from a local junkyard, there were sometime tires there that were almost brand new.
A couple days ago, a guy I know with a newer Corvette said hit a rock and blew a run flat tire, only $600 to replace it and he's going to replace both tires while he's at it, so $1,200 for two tires. , I think I remember buying new tires in the $20 range!!!

 You too! We had a guy with a 62 409 that would grab the Atlas Bucrons from an Exxon gas station with barely any tread left, and use them as slicks, when he was done with them the cords would be showing.

:D I replaced those rear tires quite often also, it helped to have a set of slicks to try to save them when I wanted to play!

Happy Easter Porchatonians, It's been a few weeks since I've checked in. Glad to see there is happiness for the most part. I hope all here are safe and the happiness meter is climbing. It's been a busy month for me. My mother passed away about 3 weeks ago. It was a blessing because she was suffering in the ICU for a month with every conceivable tube down her throat and in her arms. My brother was making trouble at the hospital having them do heroic measures. I wanted to let her 87 year old body go which it finally did. I'm good now that the funeral is over and she is with my dad and grandparents.

We had a big Easter egg hunt yesterday because it's the only time my kids and grand kids could all be here. We got 19" of snow last week. It's still on the ground. Hopefully a few 70+ days will turn everything into mud then greener. I am so done with winter. The mountains from my backyard look like the middle of February. We could have flooding if the temps climb and stay high. I live on top of the mesa so no danger for my neighborhood but down hill is a major canyon stream. Every morning I walk to the top of the trail where a diversion dam exist. All winter long the gauge on the side says .4 (I don't know the units). It's now sitting at .7 and it's not even warm. Last year it got to 3.5. After 5.0 it leaves the bank.

Looking forward to golf. I have a tournament on May 1 in central Utah so the snow should be gone. Might be the year for new clubs. It's the "arrow and not the Indian" as they say. Have a great Easter everyone.

A real queen size bed, the major criteria of good camping. Stove, fridge, and toilet, and lots of storage. Now all I need is some Willy Nelson singing, On the Road Again...
