Sue, you’ll not be happy with any new washer. Find an older used machine that actually washes your clothes, and doesn’t take all day to do it. New machines save water and energy, and that’s all they’re good for.

My wife hates the MAYTAG washing machine we bought a few years ago. She wants her old WHIRLPOOL back.

Ordered my SR5 V6 4WD four door celestial silver last week. Pretty excited but melancholy since it'll probably be my last truck. I'm 70. :(

We bought Speed Queens a few years ago; very simple, old fashioned top load washer, no electronics to speak of, dials that go clickity-click. Made in USA even. I just saw at Sam's Club last week that Samsung is offering a no-frills washer/dryer pair now too. A lot cheaper than the fancy ones that break all the time. Might be worth a look...

    Afternoon all:

You could always go to the old standby Sue, maintenance free!
I remember my grandmother using one to hit the heavier soiled areas on items before throwing them into the wringer washer.

I agree 100%. The more electronic crap and bells and whistles on washers and dryers the more to go wrong with them and the more that will go wrong with them. They may have dozens of different settings but most people including us only use about 2 different washer/dryer settings. Most of the settings are a waste and not used. Simple is good. KISS (keep it simple stupid) is one of my major philosophies in life.

One of the reasons I avoid buying anything new.

I have to admit that I bought a new TV and it's been a decent replacement for the old one. But most things I buy new are not. I doubt I'll ever buy a vehicle made after 2012 or close to that year.

I would love to find a working front loader from the mid - late 90's. Loved the one we had over in The Netherlands. Took about an hour to wash, used some water, but not as much as a top loader. Yeah, don't like washing taking so long.

Yeah, don't want or need all that stuff.

Our $500 brand new, simple Maytag toploader set, bought in 2009, has been trouble free and washes a load in about fifteen minutes. Dries in about forty-five minutes.

Welcome David. My 2009 is coming up on 14YO but still in good shape. Getting ready for new shocks all around and tires. Cost will probably be around $1500.00. I really have not spent a lot of money on the truck for maintenance items. I need to check my records to see which fluids need to be replaced and other maintenance items are due. I still do not see a need to replace the Tacoma.

Good morning, Sue. Time to o a load of laundry is not so important once you are retired. Best of luck with the selection. Our old Sears washer and dryer set is over 20 years old. This past winter I had my son replace the heater element in the dryer. I believe this would make the third time it had been replaced. Parts for these old machines are still readily available.

Good morning. Off to the gym early then on to a music lesson. I am trying to get in a few 7-day gym weeks.

Agree Ken, I have read every post on here and find them all interesting even though I may not relate to all of them, wealth of knowledge available from the "been there done that" old geezers, and GALS!
