Glad you made it back home safely Ken, been quite a while since I was on the Blue route, the Boston beltway, or the Washington and Baltimore beltways, they were crazy back then and can only be worse now.

I keep finding these, and every time I do I always can picture someone on here having it screen printed on a T shirt!
Come to think of it, he may already have one!

that'll teach'em!!! Bank (website) wouldn't let me pay the total balance on my CC, since some was pending. So, I paid the balance from my bill.... then went back and paid the difference in another transaction!!! Some months I can pay the pending balance and others I can't.... So, I'll do it this way from now on.... (since if I use bill pay to use it, it takes a MONTH for my payment to get posted and then they charge a late fee )

Ken: Coming home from the MD beaches we did not hit stop and go traffic till after the bay bridge. It did slow down to a crawl on the bridge at times. This was unusual for Sunday evening traffic.

Good morning. My son and I had a great weekend. 2 wineries, 1 brewery, 3 live music locations and helped my sister get her beach home yard cleaned up for the summer season. I slept really well last night.

Just saw this listed as one of the best towns in the US with fewer than 10,000 residents, Jim Thorpe PA!
May not be a bad place to live, but if you are trying to get home when they have something going on you might be backed up in a mile of traffic. The main street is narrow, and side streets are even worse, parking meters everywhere, not many real stores, just small shops for the tourists. I think if the person who wrote the article lived there, they would have a different opinion!
On the other hand, up on the heights, on the outskirts of the town, and across the bridge in East Chunk (town was formerly Mauch Chunk), not so bad, just getting there can be a PITB, most of the locals would be happy to see the tourists gone, and their quiet, sleepy, town return to the peaceful place it once was.

Never heard of that, glad you got it figured out. I get a CC bill, pay the bill in full, and wait for the next months bill, never ever pd. for anything pending or a late fee, sounds like bill pay or the CC issuer figured out a way to make some extra $$$, that would PMO also, especially if I'm paying the bill in full and on time. ALWAYS SOMETHING!!!

Paying CC bills through the bank can be a real pain especially when there are charges pending. I generally as a rule add the pending charges to the existing charges and pay them through my credit union's online bill pay. Fortunately I have never had any issues with the cc company (yet).
"Where there is a will there is a way" Sue. Just have to play there game and beat them at it .

Busy weekend for you Tom. Glad you and your son enjoyed time together and got your sisters beach home cleaned up. I think the heavy traffic this weekend could have been from it being Mothers Day and a lot of folks visiting Mom for the holiday . Glad you didn't have a lot of traffic.

I have not had a limitation to the payment of the card.

 

My wife retired from banking as a career. Just like any business you get people that think they have to be enforcers of rules rather than facilitators for clients. Petty bureaucrats, and smug as they wallow in their imagined power. I'd bet that if you have the same need again and go to someone else at the same branch they will be likely to find a way to help you do what you want to do.

EDIT: I guess I missed that you were dealing with a website. We drop payments off at a local bank using the vacuum tube so we don't have to deal with the people that like to enforce the rules. Sometimes we've paid more than the balance because we are anticipating a big buy... and we've never had a check refused.

 

I thought it was going to be a better day when I got to the bank, and got to park next to this one...

so,, I had to close my years old checking, and open a new one. Wife got spoofed on the phone last week, and that was my account number being bandied around. So, except for my old benefits are no longer valid, and the new benefits will last 3 days, until the newest options take effect Wednesday, it was sort of painless. All my bill pay customers that are scheduled will still get paid - I just have to get on line and deduct it again for the rest of the month. And my depositors have now all been contacted, and will use the new account number, except for Social Security! Government isn't that fast - not until June. So, we left the old account open until I decide... I get a new debit card for the new account, but going on line,, it came out of the old! For now anyway. All my transactions are missing at the moment - I suppose being transferred.... That is enough fun for the day. I will just go online daily for a couple weeks, until everything settles out.

And Sue, @ImpulseRed008 , NORMALLY I use my Bill Pay online through the bank. I pay them whatever I want, generally in full every month. Everynow and then, I get an expensive drug charge, or buy something pricey right after the statement comes. By the time they actually account it, never an issue when I send them more. If it doesn't pop up for them, then I see a credit for the extra amount. Using the banks Bill Pay system is much easier than paying them directly on-line.

 

Sue, @ImpulseRed008 , I think there must be a misunderstanding of how CC charges work legally. You are allowed a minimum of 25 days to pay the statement's minimum payment. During that time, you may decide to charge more purchases, which do not acrue interest until after the following statement is paid. You may pay the minimum charge, the statement balance, or the current balance, and with some banks, you are allowed to also pay pending charges. I recently had a statement come in with a negative balance for that very reason. Any purchase that didn't quite make the cut to post in the current billing period has the entire month following that has no interest charge. If not paid in full at that time, then the interest charges begin on that unpaid balance. This is not all about one bank's policy being different from anothers, it's spelled out in the law as to how these charges work. They can be more lenient, but not more stringent that prescribed by law. it's known as the Truth In Lending Law, and they have to Notice you every year, or sooner if they make any changes.

Since I pay it online, account shows pending charges which I want to pay since they are all things I have purchased and that way my balance will be $0. They make nothing off of me, except when bill payment takes over 3 weeks to get there (it's the same bank - both CC and my account, so not like it has to go to another bank). The payments used to get there on time, but after 2 months of it being well over 3 weeks late, nope, not using bill pay anymore for that payment. And them then charging me interest AND blaming the PO for the slow delivery. So now pay through the bank and some months it lets me pay the full amount and others it will only allow the balance on the statement.

Had to do what I had to do!!!

I've never paid more than I owe, just don't get why one month it will let me do it and the next it won't

Nice truck!! Sorry you are having to change your account thieves I pay all my medical stuff on a different card, and pay that off, too. But that's a different bank. I've never paid more than the balance... but since I did what I did, if I want to pay more, I'll do it that way next time.

Alan, I do know that. The issue was my credit union wouldn't let me pay the balance on my last bill plus the pending charges. I wanted to pay it all, since I owed it and didn't want to carry forward that part of the balance.

 

@ImpulseRed008 , for your own info, check your bill pay. Mine used to send paper; few do any more - costs more. It might be could be all electronic like mine. Pays in TWO working days for most - allowing a great deal of flex in scheduling. I sit down, and pay everything for the whole month. Used to pay stuff constantly, got it down to two (bi-weekly pay), now this (retired and things paid off). Just see what they do if you haven't checked it. All those kind of changes, they didn't tell me - service just got upgraded.

 

There are some that are posted electronically, but a few that still get mailed a paper check and my cc payment goes by paper check, which makes no sense since it is the credit union credit card I don't have many bills and pay them all at the same time every month

 

One shady practice that I’m sure that most if not all banks and credit unions do, is to stall in making the transfer from their hands to the recipient. The money is gone from your account, and not available in the new account. In Limbo? In control of one or the other of the two institutions, making more money for them. A legal maneuver, but of course, not in your best interest.

Funny how a charge will post within minutes, but an electronic payment can take 2-3 days to post! I guess if I want to play their game, I have to accept their rules...though I will do everything I can to find shortcuts!

 

It's actually a most efficient and time saving method for consumers, and well worth the several days of "Processing" for the convenience of it. Another fairly new service that is really exciting is Zelle. Most Banks offer Zelle now, and you can have almost instant confirmation of a transaction, although the "Processing" is still there. The only thing about this type of service that is less than favorable is there is no going back on a transaction, no refunds, hit that button and it's gone. The Zelle scam you've heard of is simply crooks taking advantage of those who don't know the rules of the game, and has nothing to do with Zelle itself.
