It's a Govt. thing, like it or not, you can't fight City Hall. Make the best of it and go with the flow and all that shit. The average Joe knows more about whether some idiotic Govt. plan is going to work or fall flat on its face than anyone charged with coming up with these brilliant ideas. In California, for instance, we all know that there is a Govt. mandate to NOT sell any NEW fossil fuel automobile here after what is it? 2035? We also know that the calendar is rushing toward that date faster than the infrastructure is capable of making ready, so that date is fiction before it even gets here.
Nevertheless, make the best of a lousy situation and get ahead of the curve on compliance. In my case, I have rentals, and the youngsters want to get Electric Vehicles, so, I gotta provide charging services for my tenants if I'm going to compete with the large Corporate owned high rise communities. There are incentive programs, but I've never qualified for any free handouts in the past, and not counting my chickens before they hatch on this program either. I've upgraded my building's electric service to accept Level 2 chargers, and have spent the last two months installing conduit through the basement of my building. I'm now ready to start trenching in the parking area for the new Juicebox 48 Chargers. One of my existing tenants is thrilled that I'm doing this, and has placed an order for a new EV for herself. I don't know if I'll have it ready before she takes delivery, but this old man is working as fast as an old man can.

So you're living in a the meca of some of the cutting edge mandates. Are EV's going to meet an untold amount of taxes for road repair and building since the gas tax goes away? I have heard a proposal for monitoring milage and charging for that.
For a property owner setting this up are you going to recope your expenses in a reasonable time frame. Will those chargers be available to individual units or multiple users to a unit. I guess my curiosity comes because I have electricity and the dreaded natural gas coming to my house for that I have 2 separate delivery fees [taxes]1 for each service, plus each service has 2 rates summer and winter , we get a slight reduction in electrical service in the winter. So is this going to have a separate service fees on that for tax purposes. I'm just curious how it is going to be treated a dedicated line could be a way to get the additional tax source instead of monitoring your driving habits.

Good questions. I believe gas tax is never going away, and will rise out of sight as more electric becomes available. The price of gas increases with fewer gas stations competing, electric becomes more economical in comparison, and at that point, Govt. can impose whatever tax they want, no longer needing to show favoritism to electric.
Recoup my expenses? By staying competitive with my charger installation, I can charge market rate for my apartments. In that way, yes, I'll be compensated. The chargers will match in numbers to the apartments. Every apartment will have one whether needed or not. They will be powered by the tenant's own electric meter, set up to charge at the cheapest wee hours of the night.
Everyone I know has taxes imposed on every thing. Water, telephone, gas, electric, fiber optic, coffins, every sale except food. They get you coming and going. Politicians employ swarms of experts to dream up new sources of revenue. You needn't fret about a loss of gas tax. Once imposed, taxes never go away.

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!!

Just a word of caution - some of the EV discussion is leaning into the political arena. I'd hate to see one of us get a 30 day forced vacation.

Good morning. Going to be a normal day.

@boatswain Carl: Booked a charter boat fishing trip for next Monday when we are in Michigan. One of the sportfish is the Walleye, so I might get lucky and catch one. The better fish to catch in June on Lake Huron is the lake trout or the rainbow trout. Either way any day on the water is a good day.

    Morning all:

Good luck with the fishing Tom, if the charter boat captain knows his chit, he can probably put you on some walleye, especially in the Saginaw Bay.
Rainbows and lakers are also fun to catch, in any event WE NEED PICS, and hopefully you have an enjoyable and successful fishing trip.

All I could visualize over at the EV "charging station" (at a local shopping ctr) - was a delinquent like myself running through to unplug as many as possible in 60 seconds!

NoDak has the same problem as Wyo - having a charging station every 50 miles as the Feds suggest is a big infrastructure expense. Coverage in outback America is going to take a lot of wire. A friend who is still a life resident (won't leave noway nohow) - says he's going to rig up a "road service" flat bed with a Cummins gen-set that can juice an EV rapidly, right where it sits.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Well, after no rain with the big promises, we find 1.15" on the gauge between 6 and 7 this am! Kind of a re-run week this time around, just swapping the Dr. for a hair cut. Putz stuff today.

We left just before it but ended up talking to a guy parked next to us for awhile. Stopped on the way home for an early dinner. I should have just driven down the entrance and parked in B, there was plenty of room and some other folks did

Not all chargers are identical, so don't buy until you have an EV.

Having a dedicated 50A or 100A feed is a good thing. I have two separate meters—one for the house (200 AMP) and Another for the detached shop (200 AMP).
A 220V 50Amp is fine for a Welder or future EV. Dedicated 100A gives a few more rapid charge options. Tesla Power Wall allows slow charging during off-peak hours; then, you can do a fast dump into your EV.

Some EVs have a slow charger (120V @ 20Amp) which may suffice for weekend guests.

I like the Maxda Hybrid. It's pure electric with a rotary engine generator. Electric only is a dismal 100 miles, but fine for school and shoping. Fill it up with a gas, 400-mile range. The Rotary runs at a constant speed (easy to control emissions) and is used only to charge the battery pack for range.

If anything, we'll soon learn how precious resources are.

I thought you were coming down. I should have been more attentive to the parking possibilities.
