    I added my $.02, too.

    Still on generator power - PPL is saying it may be Sunday until service is restored. So, I took my generator offline this afternoon and checked the oil. Looked clean and down just a touch - still between the full and add oil line. Looks to be using less than .5 gals per hour so we have plenty of propane. Fired it back up and were warm and comfortable.

    My system is an Onan 1200 - puts out a smooth 11kw on propane and runs on a quiet Honda engine. You can barely hear it from inside the house. Best investment I made in our home!

    The Onan was recommended by the electrician who wired our house when we built it. He said he'd installed Generacs and Onans and would never recommend a Generac. I ordered ours on-line from a distributor in Colorado. Superb quality!

    In the service I ran our central office generators every friday from 12:00 noon till 17:00. I cannot remember the brand but the power was 50KW powered by twin deisel engines. Noisy as all get out but very effective.

    830 AM on the 29 was the last time boats was here. Any one have a PH# or E mail for him try it. Think he lives out in the woods by himself. Glad everyone else is OK.. Looks like NY city got its ass handed to it. Some of the wife's kin live in Cliffside park NJ right on the Hudson & we can not get them on the PH or email... Jim

    When looking at a pump you also have to be aware of how high, in linier feet, the pump will need to pump the water.

    Basement to the ground level could be 12 feet.

    Our generator can be configured to run on either natural gas or propane. Remember that natural gas will reduce your kW output a bit. Ours is rated at 11kW on propane and 9kW on natural gas.

    We don't have an option out here in the boonies - no natural gas service. We have a 1000gal propane tank buried in the yard.

    Thanks for the info guys. Taking all factors into consideration before doing anything. But leaning more towards a generator. Has to be portable thoughcause living in a community with an association, rules are rules...it can be a pain in the ass sometimes, but at least I wont have an eyesore next to me..Thanks again.
