I gained interest this year because this was the first time a North Dakota and local team made it to the series. It helped to find out a former co-workers son was playing.

A middle-aged married couple lives in a small house on the beach. One afternoon they get into a huge fight. The woman tells the man, "I'm so angry I can't even stand to look at you right now," and hands him a large bucket.

"Go down to the beach and fill that bucket up with snails for tonight's dinner," The woman tells her husband, "and once you've done that, maybe I'll be able to stand being around you again."

The man reluctantly agrees and heads down to the beach with the bucket. It takes him several hours, but he can finally catch enough snails to fill the bucket just as the sun starts to set. The man gets ready to head back home when he suddenly sees a beautiful young blonde woman walking along the beach.

The man sets down his bucket, approaches the blonde, and converses with her. After they talk for a while, the blonde invites the man to come home with her, which he eagerly agrees to.

The man ends up spending the night with the blonde. He wakes up early the following day and suddenly realizes his wife must be frantically looking for him.

The man runs back to the beach as quickly as possible, gathers up his bucket full of snails, and sprints home. When he arrives, he dumps the snails out all over the walkway leading up to the front door.

The man's wife hears the commotion and comes to the door. "Where the hell have you been all night?" She demands angrily.

The man turns around, looks down at the snails, and says, "Come on, little guys, you can do it! We're almost there!"

    Good mid-day Saturday.

Back from vacation on Wednesday, drive up was not bad at all. Thursday, I recuperated from a week of fun and did some grocery shopping. Yesterday was a testing day for problems associated with my back. Up in Baltimore early for two nerve tests in both legs. Who knew you could test the speed and thru-put of nerves. Interesting battery of tests that took an hour. Results came back with a few problems, but we knew there were issues. Overall, the results were positive. Next up were two MRIs of the upper back with a 2:30 appointment start time. Got in a little early and was out by 3:30. The MRI took 40 minutes. Results were a mixed bag. Auther has my upper back with a mild stenosis in some vertebrae's. There are also some bulging discs which is not good. We knew there was problems here too. I want to talk to the doc about therapy for the bulging discs. Gravity and being severely overweight has not helped with the back problems. I feel I am on a good track right now with weight loss. In the last 15 months I have lost a little over 50 pounds. I have had the last consultation and series of tests run by Johns Hopkins. The speed of the test results is outstanding with the first diagnosis being sent to me in a matter of hours.

In the gym early today and now I need to give a letter to my neighbors. We are having two trees removed next Tuesday and Wednesday. I wanted to inform the neighbors, so they are not surprised by the activity and noise.

Susan: At this point the Doc's can only give me guidance on how to keep the pain away for as long as I can. I have no real pain, so an operation is not in the picture. I completed a series of aquatic and land-based therapy in July. The sessions really worked, and I now do close to 45 minutes of stretching a day. My next step is to talk to the PA to really understand the tests I took on Friday and see if there is a therapy to help with the bulging discs. At this point I feel blessed that I am pain free when so many of us, in this thread, have pain they need to deal with every day. I try to learn from everyone in the thread that comments on their back problems. My takeaway is to lose more weight and continue to stretch and exercise.

Mark: You were lucky to get the appointment earlier. I have an ear appointment on September 7th and every time an earlier appointment becomes available, I miss the opportunity. I have even clicked on the appointment upgrade as soon as I get the message and it is already taken. Thank you for the thoughts and I wish the same back to you.

Good morning. I am off to the gym then on to the farmers market for some fresh veggies. I did a harvest in my small garden yesterday and I have enough tomatoes to make tomato soup and some salsa. If we are not going out to dinner and music tonight, I will be busy in the kitchen. I have a turkey breast that might get smoked today but definitely will be in the smoker tomorrow.

Good Morning everyone! Have a great day. Strange day yesterday high of 91 cooled down to 51 this morning.

Was watching 2 hawks and a rabbit this morning playing cat and mouse, while having coffee pertty entertaining. So far hawks 0 rabbit 7. He comes out from a evergreen a couple feet and darts back to cover when they attack. If they get smart they will get lunch but these guys are young yet. I think I posted a picture when one of them was just out of the nest.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Got home from the meeting and just vegged and napped. Legs are killing me after this week (too short mechanics stool mostly, took forever to mow, up and down in greenhouse). So, I gave up my seat in the B-25 to Houston next Saturday. I'll get more chances, and hopefully I can make my legs start bending more happily!

Good luck Tom:thumbsup::fingerscrossed:. Hope you find a long term plan that's a real benefit.

Great stroke of luck, there Colonel! Good luck with the visit!

Wife's car to the shop this am for service. It takes GPS to find the best detours these days. Glad they finally put GPS on a cellphone. Now, it's always up to date, and I can use it every time we go anywhere, so it's always at the ready. I still use the Garmin, also. I like the bigger screen. Road work is constant, and different every time we go anywhere. This time it's a bridge R&R, and some guardrail end shock absorbers. Vehicles really beat those things up.

Roadwork is everywhere. The infrastructure bill targeted bridges and there is a lot of work in that area. So far, we have taken a trip to MI and a trip to NC where the TN, VA, and NC states meet. There is a lot of construction, but I notice that the work is being done in a way that allows two lanes or three lanes to stay in operation. I think most states are working smarter with the construction methods they are currently using.

Good morning. After the gym we are trimming back the shrubs in the front of the house. Should be a fun day.

Here in Michigan we call it orange barrel season. But as long as they are fixing the roads I can deal with it.

I thought (wrong) that living in the southwest we would see a benefit in roadway life - due to the lack of freezing and thawing cycles. If anything, it is way worse here than Wyoming. They either don't have a handle on the technology here - or they just don't care. In Wyo it was common practice (at least in the state roads) to incorporate an engineered fabric in the black top to build in a restraint that stops big potholes from popping out in the future. In the 21 years we've lived here - we keep seeing the same stretches redone over and over (three times on nearby Silverbell road).

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Think I finally won the battle, but lost the war with the greenhouse drips. Spent a couple hours testing with hose pressure, then pump, and when it all worked - it didn't! The deal was that when I changed to the 2 GPM drips that would not clog, I could not get reliable pressure in ONE of the four sections. What I had to do was pull all the 2 GPM emitters, and replace them back to 1 GPM cleaned out emitters. Which, I know, will clog, and require policing. But, here is a pic of all the plumbing that didn't matter anyway. I moved the resevoir tank up on the wall, which shortened the "UP" run from the pump.

    20230818_154920.jpg

Off to get the last Tacoma inspection (because we are not going to do it anymore), then go see that '54.

I took a trip down to Chaco Canyon, NM a couple of months ago. I've never seen roads so terrible. New Mexico must have some kind of investment in suspension parts or something. Even the freeways are pot holed with foot deep canyons and they are frequent. It was a learning curve to avoid them and we were not entirely successful. Worst roads I've ever seen by an order of magnitude, and I've been around the block a few times.

I think road builders and politicians sometime have a mutually beneficial relationship.
