Sounds like an excellent program, more people should take. In California to get your CCW you have to take a 16 hour course and then qualify on the range. One of the things we are taught is after you eliminate the threat holster your weapon and show your hands so the good guys dont take you out. I pray I never have to use my gun but am prepared if I need to. That’s part of the reason I go to the range 1 to 2 times a month. Besides I thoroughly enjoy shooting.

You are right Mike especially here in California. I do carry special insurance to pay 100% of my legal fees and suits should I have to shoot some scumbag. Good point though, think I’ll get me a really cheap firearm.

Just an excuse to go gun shopping... we all know the drill... lol

Personally, if I have to fire with intent I want my very best option in my hand and if they want to confiscate it, fine. Losing my weapon is the least of my worries.

I pray I never have to use deadly force but if it comes down to me and my family or them it will come down to who shoots first.

    Willis.jpg Watchu talkin' bout Jim....:rofl::rofl::fistbump:

Amen to that Mike. Added insurance is a must and a cheap firearm is good. I have both and hope I never have to use either.

I bought a Stoeger STR-9c for $249 with a $50 manufacturers rebate. It is an amazing shooter. I have shot brass, steel and aluminum cases and not one misfire or stove pipe. It shoots betteer than my Sig P320-M18.
    20231017_185959.jpg

Many people have different favorites and for me it's the Stoeger. Accurate out of the box(doesn't come with a case) and after over 700 rounds through it, the only complaint is the stipling on the back of the grip is very aggresive so for now I wear a glove.

    Evening all:

:frusty::annoyed::(, sorry to see that happen Kurt.
I was just talking to a guy who had a truck back into his new Honda. It barely scraped a small back panel on the side, no dent, and looked like mostly very lightly scratched paint and an easy cheap repair, YEA RIGHT, he said 3K to fix it and the ins. Co. agreed to pay the estimate. o_O

Not just the people coming into the country, we seem to have a national crime problem that's only getting worse.

Welcome JaxUmp, it's your turn fill up the cooler and then pull up a chair on the porch, like Ken said, good group on here and pics. are always welcome.

Insurance is getting out of control. It's like the more they pay out... the more they can justify rate hikes. And they've figured out that paying more out is to their advantage.

A little something every chance we get.
Insurance will never see this one - it was on me anyway. But, yeah, new cars are hella $$$ to get body work. I ordered my primer tail gate, some stuff for it, and will have the whole truck resprayed one color for less than that! Yes, I have to do the tail gate swap. Sounds like some beers to me.

Nice discussion on personal defense, up to 4 years ago I was shooting like @Sprig then I damaged my right wrist. I haven't been out for 2 years now. For home defense I have a 870 with the plug out 2 turkey loads 2-1buck last one a slug. For outside defense. I like library civil defense. A light round I can handle.

The Civil Defense 9mm is the best self-defense 9mm cartridge on the market. It has more kinetic energy than a lot of 45 ACP self-defense rounds, except it’s lighter and easier to shoot than any other 9mm defense round. It’s the best of both worlds, the power of 45 ACP, with more convenience than any 9mm round on the market. It is also lead-free and California-compliant.
Our Civil Defense 9mm projectiles function differently than any other self-defense round on the market. We designed the Civil Defense line to eliminate threats with one round. We did this by creating the maximum amount of damage and tissue disruption possible. They do well against barriers, but when the large cavity fills with fluid.
    Weight: 50gr
    Velocity: 2040 FPS
    Kinetic Energy: 462 FPE
    Accuracy: < 1" @ 25 Meters
    Rounds: 20 per box
    Terminal Effect: 3 ½ “W x 12” D

Compared to other top self-defense rounds:

    • - 32 to 38% less felt recoil
    • - 65 to 75% more velocity
    • - 25 to 30% more kinetic energy

2040 fps that is mind boggling for a 9mm and the KE is quite good. I’ll be picking up some. By the way I was just joking about getting a cheap gun. The Glock is my every day carry. I can put them in the 10 ring at short distance laying, kneeling, standing, one hand, 2 handed, rapid fire, careful aiming, instinctive point and fire etc.
And I agree a 12 gauge short barrel great home defense. Mine is a Mossberg 500

You might have to go to liberty's web site. That's what I did.
My neighbor is retired IRS, and border patrol special forces. He recommended the shotgun for home defense because of over penetration. Most people and some regulations forget that 9mm personal defense rounds can go through walls, studs and sheetrock. Loved ones and neighbors can injured by missing the target. I had a chance to shoot a FATS training exercise. In a combat situation most people will tunnel vision on the threat the gun or weapon the intruder has. The officer involved shooting in Fargo proved that the officer shot the gun first the shooter had before hitting and killing him. The incident left 1 officer dead 2 shot. Both the servers are now out of the hospital but both have rehab to get through FBI training is elimination of the threat 2 shots center mass 1 to the head. The threat is the person.

All branches of the U.S. Armed Forces employ FATS simulators for both military and police use of force, marksmanship and tactical training. The FATS system has been universally established as the industry standard for small arms training, currently in use in 46 countries.

Many many years ago, about 45 years ago I was a LEO for a couple years. I trained in tactical shooting and tactics. I still retain much or at least some of what I learned and trained in. I’m very aware of the problem of tunnel vision in shooting situations and many other high stress situations like high speed pursuits etc. etc. I’m also very aware of bullets penetrating walls and other dwellings. Shotguns are great home defense but buckshot can penetrate several walls also. I think #4 buck is a little less likely to penetrate like 00 will. Lots of variables involved in self/home defense situations which unfortunately many of the general public are ignorant of. I personally would like to see more people take self/home defense classes. I don’t want to make it a law but just encourage people.

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!!

I just can't get myself to give up my .45 cal for EDC although I have moved to a 300 Blackout SBR for my home defense weapon of choice.
