:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/veterans. I'm glad the US went back to doing it on 11/11, a special day; for a while Veteran's Day was a Monday holiday.

Many years ago I was driving our 2000 Subaru Legacy -- with its flat four engine -- to work when it started accelerating all by itself. I thought maybe the cruise control was acting up, but then it stopped happening so I kept driving. Then it happened again. I pulled into a church parking lot, opened the hood, and there sat a groundhog! I imagine it had pretty hot feet, and was probably jumping around in there and caught the throttle cable once or twice. I chased it out and went on my way.

Another time I started up the Taco and heard a horrible sound, like it threw a belt. Nope -- the belt threw a squirrel, which by far got the worst of it. Pretty messy.

Might be your old Jeep, Carl @boatswain ! Piqued my curiosity, so, here's your running lights and gas tank! (That shocked the guy I was talking to when taking pics!), and I don't know what happened to the lack of tailgate pic!

Here's some rando pics from the evening. One of the guys found a nice, new, Pratt & Whitney badge, and affixed it to the motor, and polished it all up!

New Jeep got to stay inside, naturally! Tagged at only $52K!

If you live long enough you too could have your mind blown.

Was at the store picking apples. A voice says, " Sure beats rotting pineapple and bananas."
I look up and there in a Marine cap is another old guy. Marine Vet cap with 8 battle ribbons. I had 3 of them. I was there.
He said he had seen my brown Navy cap. "You were always the 1st in the boats ". What? He remembered me?
We blocked the fruit isle for half an hour. He was one of the Marines on my boat and I brought him and his men back.
We exchanged numbers and he was off to a funeral in TX. His son. A Marine Vet.

He is the only one I have talked to since 2001 about the Nam. He is the only Marine I have met since that was there.
He called this morning. "Morning Chief". "Morning Master Sargent" I replied. He will keep in touch. He lives in SD near the base and has pics from that last patrol he said.

    Small world getting smaller.

Last bunch! Our P-39 looks kind of sad, all apart and everything. But, work remains on-going - motor returning "sometime soon". We did get a new prop - over $25K! But it can't go outside at all, so it's a display for the evening!

    Evening all:

Looks like a successful shindig there Kurt.
Need a pic of the seat flipped up showing the fill cap ! :D
Doubt if it is my old one, unless it somehow made its way to TX. I might know a little about those jeeps, but I know nothing about those planes, I'll have to rely on you for that!
One time I broke a rear axle on it, I removed the bolts that hold it in, removed the sheared off splined end and bolted the remaining part of the axle back on, put it in 4 WD and drove it around with just front wheel drive until I got a replacement axle.
Just think, those guys were driving around in them sitting on top of the gas tank and carrying extra jerry cans filled with gas while getting shot at, talk about DANGEROUS!

I heard that. I feed my doggo's 4 Health from Tractor Supply. To the best of my knowledge they have never had a recall and it's a well rated food on petfoodadvisor.com. It costs more than Purina, but less than Blue Buffalo (and the other premium foods)

Would love to see that in person.

    Good morning all.

I've seen pictures of that memorial lined up for the sun's rays to illuminate it like that. I used to take part in a motorcycle event called "Tour of Honor" each year visiting various military and first responder memorials in different states. Learned a lot of previously untaught history and saw a lot of gorgeous small towns doing their best to honor their fallen.

Evey year in early June in Reading, PA there is a big WWII recreation weekend that features a lot of old aircraft and wheeled vehicles. Friend of mine is always a volunteer at the event and my neighbor takes his WWII Indian motorcycle over for the weekend.

I used to work frequently in southern Montana near the National Cemetery at "Garryowen" between Sheridan, Wy and Billings, Mt. It is the only battlefield I ever visited with the grave stones scattered all over the (many acre) site. Very eerie on a winters day when the markers are sticking out of the snow and sage. Curious about the battle since I was an avid western watcher as a kid - I stopped there several times over the years.

When the Army graves registration unit was there after the fight, they tried to identify as many troopers as possible - and hurriedly interred the remains due to the area still being in the midst of hostilities. The shallow graves and primitive ID markers were where the men were found - and when you stand there yourself, you can imagine the scramble, trying to find cover and maybe dig a fighting hole. Creases in the earth and other ground features are about all there was to work with as a soldier - and two or three markers together here and there are what you find as you hike around the area in summer. Scared to hang around - the army graves guys did what they could and escaped back to Sheridan.

Years passed and the site was finally revisited by the army - looking for Custer - to move his grave to Arlington. The place was a wreck - animals had dug up the remains. Bones of the men and horses were all over the place in total disarray. They were gathered and reburied in a common grave at a spot known as "last stand hill", where the big concrete marker is today. It isn't even known for sure that the remains returned to Washington were Custer.

The Lakota - removed all of their dead from the field and now have a marker there of their own. It would only be fitting if the US government would be a heavy contributor to that effort.

If you are ever driving that stretch of I-90 interstate, it is worth a stop. My dad was a WWII combat veteran and when I told him about the place - he went over there his next visit west. He told me (several times) that he regretted never having seen the Western Pacific islands where he landed - when they "weren't all blown to pieces".

:rain: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue. Yesterdays all day rain stopped, about 1.25" altogether. Little more supposed to be up for today. If it looks clear enough, maybe I'll stain some firring strips. My feet still hurt! Shouldn't worry too much, there's a pill for that!
