I was in downtown San Francisco when the Loma Prieta (World Series) quake hit. The coolest one I was ever in was outside of Truckee, the day after Thanksgiving in 1979 or 1980, I think. A friend and I were hiking near Donner Summit when it hit, and I was able to watch the side of the mountain were on shake like a wet dog coming out of the water. Awesome experience! It knocked some cans off the shelves of the Safeway in town, but not much else.

My Dad use to tell me getting old isn’t for the faint of heart. I laughed when he told me this in my 20’s but now I understand and not so funny anymore :D
It’s like your mind doesn’t age except for the added wisdom and you think you can still do what you use to.
    Edit:
I Miss my X but my aim is much better now :D:thumbsup:
After we split up she said you know if we get back together you won’t have to pay anything. I replied you can’t put a price on happiness and she gave me the dagger eyes and I payed dearly for over 20 years. But I’d make the same choice again with the exception of ever meeting her
My last payment was about 5 years ago and that day I went on my front Porch and yelled freedom at the top of my lungs like Brave heart :D One of the best days of my life mainly since I knew she would never get another dime from me after raising my payment every chance she got and I had to go court often. One time I told the courts you know I just filled out all this financial information only a few months ago do I have to fill this out again. They said no you don’t have to then will just go by what she said your making every month

Oh what the heck. It's still raining and thundering and lightning, and I have to be at Firestone in the morning, so....

    • OK, I got new big tires Friday right, and they got rubs - so I made my Firestone alignment first thing today last week. Printed out the old form, and discovered that the guy that did the last one set it back to stock 16" wheels, and no lift specs. My skinnies barely rubbed, and getting rid of the mudflap fixed it, and I didn't realize what they did. So, the truck isn't really "driveable" with the new tires at the moment.
    • Refrigerator died NYE, so I cancelled the Firestone. Reschedule for Wednesday. Wife says why you do that? So, I can be here for frig delivery. You probably don't need to, I can handle it.
    • Guys get here right about 10 to move the old one out of the way, and aside from the dusty, and ruined, rusted flooring, they WON'T TOUCH the water valve, because it's corroded, and they can't be responsible. I tell them I will hit with Blaster, and it will be fine. Nope. They'll take the old one, but wont install the new.
    • I find a connector on the old plastic water supply tube, and tell them look, you can connect to THIS, and not touch the valve. And I shut off the water. They decide, NOPE, that valve "might leak". We won't be responsible. I call BS, and they reconsider, but the wife needs to clean the floor.
    • They bring the new one in, and start unwrapping the plastic, and there is a nice big Z gouge/dent on the door, right by the handle. They take some pictures, call the bosses. Wife is still cleaning floor. They get a call back, now they are late for next delivery, say they can't install it, and some of us are getting rankled!
    • They get wife on my phone about taking a discount for the damage while I'm in garage. $335. She's not liking, and gives me the phone. I bought a 5 year Lowe's warranty on new frig, not a damaged one. New door, or new frig. Either option just sounds likes it's going to suck, so I made her take it up to a manager, and I settled on $502.74 (most we can do) discount/credit to the Lowes card.
    • They book, I have the wife hit the valve with Blaster, and not 10 minutes later, it turns easily. Now we can turn house water back on and off as needed. I get her some proper wrenches, and she even gets the old hose nut off. She is now the plumber, I tell her.
    • Dog, who had been crated because just being in the way is let loose, sees a cat outside, and goes on a barky fit. One of the trips to the garage, he rips past me, and is gone again, after a cat. Wife decides to go get him.
    • We get the thing plumbed up, plugged in, and cover the clean, ugly floor. It works. In reading about the "purge the water line" stuff, I find "DON'T PUT FOOD IN FOR 24 HOURS!". Three coolers remain outside (it's in the 40's all day), so I go get more ice.
    • Taking out more trash (which didn't get picked up again this week on the normal day), I find instructions for the Hinge Covers laying in the street. When inside, I discover that she let them use a old tape measure (crummy, but my Dad's), and they didn't return it. No hinge covers, No special tool we find in the book - we don't know what else. We try to contact them, and it proves impossible. I call the store, and "they don't do that", and I said "YES YOU WILL". Haven't heard back.
    • Tell the wife I'm taking her to Mr. Taco for margarita and food (mostly for the drink). We get in, and are told by the kid - "No Margarita, we're out of mix". Sheesh. OK, we'll get it to GO, and make our own. Can we have some small waters to enjoy the chips? Yes, and food comes shortly - PLATED FOR RESTARAUNT. NOT, to GO. We eat it there. With water, and a diet Coke.
    • Wife wanted to start putting stuff back in after dinner, we decided we could. As we leave, it starts pouring, after NOT raining all 100% chance all day. And Thunder, and lightning. I'd have brought the coolers in if not for all the bolts. I will bring them in first thing.
    • Oh yeah, no hangar tomorrow, and we were supposed to cut and block the paint job. My guy got the flu and covid from family over Christmas....
So, wife and dog passed out on the couch, storm appears about 1/2 hour from done. I really feel like I forgot something.

I'm just waiting for the Tech to try to tell me that "they won't do that spec" - when they were the ones who put it on at my request when I went big and stupid! Firestone Lifetime Alignment!
But I have tip money, and the print out!
:rain: It stopped for 5 minutes..... 1.45" since 6 PM

    Evening all:

Isn't that what they call an eventful day Kurt?
Sometimes it just seems like NOTHING goes right!!! :(

My buddy and his SIL should be here at 9:00 tomorrow to get the wood, his SIL has a small dump truck, shouldn't take too long for the three of us to load up the wood.
Unfortunately for me, and fortunately for him, I can keep him supplied with firewood just from trees that keep coming down in the yard! :annoyed:
One good thing, I don't need to load the wood onto my small trailer and then have to unload it and stack it somewhere off to the side of the yard.

:amen:! After see what happened to the owner of the 2020 Testla in the linked video, I feel so fortunate of owning an older 2nd gen. Tacoma that I have. The major repair that my truck had in its 16 years life span was the water pump replacement; and that should considered as a routine maintenance item rather than a "premature failure".

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!!

I ended 2023 and started 2024 with a bang. Well, more of a leak. I noticed on New Year's Eve day that I was getting some water out of the overflow of our boiler for the heating system/hot water. Trouble shooting said the expansion tank was full. Not long after I noted water coming out of the shutoff valve above the expansion tank. Called the plumbing service and talked to their on-call guy. Decided we could wait until Tuesday - the water runs right into a floor drain so no damage. They repaired it yesterday - new expansion tank, pressure valve, shutoff valve and replaced the low water warning sensor that had also failed. So I wrote my first check for 2024 - $1300. Woo hoo!! The boiler is 20 years old so I really can't complain. The joys of home ownership.
