That world series quake hit a year or so after we visited my brother in law there. He was on ship and my sil was home alone with the kids when that happened. When we got a hold of her, to check if they were ok I kinda asked if this was what she meant by a real earthquake, she said that wasn't funny, but they were okay with minor damage but she was scared and apologized for laughing at us when we went through that 2.4 one when we visited. We visited them in Cali 2 other times in the LA and San Diego when they lived in those areas. Between those cities I liked San Diego the best.
I guess we live close to a fault line up here but the last recorded quake or. Tremer was over 90 years ago and I wasn't around yet.

Sorry for the extra expense Mark. You were about $700 to $900 dollars away from a new hot water heater and expansion tank. In my experience I usually go through 2 expansion tanks for every water heater. I had the expansion tank replaced last year.

Good morning. New year and time to get back to normal after the month-long holiday season. Placed 2 TV's on the different walls in my cousin's condo. The 65in TV needs to be lowered about 6 inches. The bottom of the TV is at the proper height but the top is too close to the credenza. It was late yesterday so my son and I will go back on Saturday and finish the TV mount. She does Wi-Fi yet so I will have to go back again and set up the TV's to the connection and set up streaming services.

This wasn't the water heater, it is the propane fired boiler that feeds hot water to the water heater and into our radiant heating system. Replacing it is more in the $4k + labor range. We get about 2 years out of an expansion tank on the system.

My own delivery woe came from a Home Depot "delivery contractor"........... Replacement dishwasher ordered and delivery scheduled - time was set at 9 - 11 AM a couple days later. Delivery guy shows up at 7 AM and basically says "now or never"? Says they sent us a text that changed time (to their convenience) - text went to an old landline that can't receive them. Says they are now loaded up with work and if I delay will now take a week! B.S. pressure move. Wife getting ready to go to work and fresh from shower - I told them to get the "H" out of my driveway!

HD's answer line is in the states I think (and they speak English) - they also didn't keep me on "forget" forever (helped keep my BP in check). Woman I talked to got a new delivery figured out- and they even sent back a different delivery crew a couple of days later (and they had the right product on board). I think she was in an Eastern time zone (I'm in AZ). This business of using a "delivery contractor" to avoid being responsible - when items are are sold with delivery - is total B.S.!!!!

:pccoffee:Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! OK, try to enjoy the last cup of coffee before I head out. Coolers are in for the wife, everything one the street for whenever they decide to come. Woke up to email from on line RX group in insurance, "one or more of your Automatic Refills" has been removed. The RX are no longer eligible." The list is ALL of them. No explanation, the links don't go to anything helpful. Chat with insurance - they don't know, can only tell me how to click the box. How come? Don't know. Give me the RX group number. Talk to a concerned young lady from India. Let me look. You were unenrolled. Why? Don't know. Is this some annual thing? Don't know. Can you enroll me again? I'll see.

Minutes later I am again enrolled, but she put every med on the list, and not all of them are desired refills - so, when I get home, I'll be going down the list.....

Yes, that assessment pretty well fits!

    I feel ya', Colonel!

    Sob, thanks bro!

Speaking of which, I heartily endorse Robert Heinleins' "Job: A Divine Comedy".

I had to look up what an expansion tank is, and what it does. I thought it was the tank on a well until I looked it up. Never had one in any of the (roughly) 12 houses I've lived in since we've been married as far as I know. I know I don't have one in my present house. Is it an eastern thing?

Much better! Tires back in the middle of the well, no rubs, the shocks and springs are working correctly again, and the quiet joy of new tread!

Every employee and responsibility a business can shed they are all for it. Not what most of us here grew up with. Why have employees when you can have on-demand 1099 drones? It isn't going to end well.

Hmmm, I don't know if it's regional. It isn't for the water heater, just for the boiler.

For the boiler? The definition I read on google said the purpose was to diminish pressures so the valves in faucets and such lasted longer. So much for internet information...

I've never had a home with a boiler. Does that mean you are heating with steam and radiators and such?

Yeah, I saw the pic. And I'm puzzled by it. You guys are talking about how often it needs to be replaced and how expensive it is... and I've never had one and never had to replace anything in my water system. I've been on well water and city water, and never had an expansion tank. My pipes are fine and so are my faucets, etc. Always have been. I'm in this present home 14+ years and the only plumbing I've done is outside the house or part of a remodel.

I'd go down in my basement and post a picture too, but access is covered with a dresser and the steps are a pain in the ass... and I'm old. There's nothing down there except a water heater and a gas furnace.

My whole system was 30 years old. Put a hole in the heater box. So replace everything.

    Did you have one before?

My system is so old any pex is grey. It's like they replaced some of the galvanized pipe that they could reach and left the rest. No idea how old the water heater or furnace are. The house was unoccupied for years before we bought it.

Always had an expansion tank in every house that I lived in. I always had hot water heat.
