She is going to give him the benefit of doubt, if it continues, game over. Going forward she’s going to document, document, document. Thanks

40 degrees in beautiful Odessa FL. Cold by my standards but I can’t complain. My knees hurt just reading some of these temperatures.

Good morning. A clear and crisp morning here in the 727...about 45* is my guess. Just came back from a walk.

Regarding the question of 2 weeks notice...etc.
I'm on the verge of changing employers. I will give courtesy 2 weeks. That seems customary and expected.
A lot of bad things can happen in 6 weeks....like the new employer having second thoughts on the economy...etc. She should say ADIOS!

Florida is great in the winter! I use to go for 1-2 months kayak fishing the west coast from Tampa to Chokoloskee. I miss it.

She’s making the move without a new job, she’s well prepared, and the opportunities are good. She’s been offered a couple of positions. She wants to leave with a good letter of recommendation.

Personally, I'd give any adult one chance and only one chance. Walk in, look them in the eye, and say, "I've given you six weeks, but that's all dependent on whether you treat me well. If you say one word to me that is out of line, including to what I'm telling you right now... I will walk immediately."

And then if the guy says anything... walk.

Letters of recommendation are nice, but that wont get you a cup of coffee without $2. If she is stuck on those, get some recommendations from her co-workers. Also...if she has volunteered for whatever, get recommendations from those. Then skedaddle.

Recommendations are over rated. Most new employers don't really check, and old employers have some legal issues if they say the wrong thing.

Yeah, it’s easy to used to but summers and hurricane season can be a bitch. I was cleaning out some old hard drives last week and found this picture from November 2008. Guess who lived here for 30 years and who is visiting from up north.

Two weeks is customary. Your daughter is being nicer than she has to be by giving the boss early warning and providing six weeks for transitioning or training her replacement.

Is her job something she could continue to do working remotely? If so perhaps she could offer to do that for a period of time to help them out. With proper compensation of course. I have several friends now working remote jobs and loving it. One guy I knew actually worked remote while camping about 800 miles from his work.

In the area we're in 2 weeks are customary, it used to be to get vacation time owed payed. Labor laws have it if it is earned based on time worked it can't be with held. All states have guidelines as well as federal employment rules. Union participation has a separate set defined by the contract. The only time I've seen this sort of practice is small, less than 10 employees business because they tend to be like family. The 6 week thing is something not normal except when retiring. I was asked at the beginning of our fiscal year as is everyone who was over 62 by my last employer what were my plans for retirement were. For 2 years it was im feeling good I'll stay on . The year I was turning 64 I let them know I was done at 65. They said great our rules for that are you will get a packet with paperwork 6 weeks before your end date. No grief simple. They had odd retirement protocol mostly because it was an ESOP and that was to get your payout on time and with the least tax consequences.

She manages a small private retail business, it’s going to tough to replace her. A lot of close relationships with customers.
