How I get my wood....bring the mill to the log, not the log to the mill.

    Set up for first cut.

Pushing the mill thru the log making boards.

I can get up to a 38" wide board or slab.

I was in my 50s when these pics where taken. It's not an easy job and it's very physical, but rewarding. It's like doing push ups and going halfway down and then holding there for 10 minutes. I would be way slower today in my 60s than I was, I used to be able to go all day, getting old sucks sometimes. I still do the things I did when I was younger, just slower and with more breaks.

Lump is usually a better choice but sometimes briquettes is the way to go. Kingsford would not be my first, second or third choice because it is quick burning and low heat output. Kingsford is everywhere at a cheaper price point, so it is probably #1 in sales. B&B or Jealous Devil briquettes are far superior but at a higher price. I can get B&B at an ACE that is about 20 miles away and Jealous Devil is available at a lot of HD locations. ACE will order the B&B to be delivered to your local ACE. I use both in my Weber Kettle and sometimes use lump in the kettle. Decent charcoal, both lump and briquette, cost more but it is worth it because of better BTU output, and it is easier to maintain a consistent temp.

Good morning. Going to be a busy and long day. We are headed to my sister's home at Ocean Pines, MD for the weekend. I see lots of music over the weekend and a birthday dinner with my other sister. My sonand I, mostly my son, with be mounting a TV to the wall in one of the bedrooms and replacing a circuit breaker in the breaker box. Overall, a busy weekend.

    Morning all:

Looks like I would definitely need a bigger chainsaw to use that setup Greg, plus the equipment to be able move logs that size!
It would be nice to have a chipper also!
    This could get expensive!!

i have been using lump since i got my Primo XL in 2009, and after reading how briquettes are made (after years and years of use) I switched to lump. There are many brands of lump, i use Royal Oak from HD or Wally-mart when if fill 1/2 of my grill, i can usually get 3 sometimes 4 cooks outta of a load. I use a map gas torch to start the lump . 90 % of my cooks are indirect, now when imma doin wings......

Nice! In another season in my life, I had a stand up paddle and surf shop, one of my other products was Big Green Eggs. I had experience with them in another season when I did competitive Bbq on the amateur side.
Now… I have a curb-alert Weber kettle without legs, sitting on top of an el cheapo brinkman smoker.
Seasons change. Not my will but His will.
