You are correct sir, but since I am mentally 17, I am not well grounded in what reality actually is as yet.

Only if you buy the techy crap... It's a given that people spend more money on bells and whistles than on the original, reliable products. That's why we have vehicles with more expense in the "options" than in the base model. We've been sold the idea that options are necessary to maintain "resale value"... when the options are what depreciates faster than the car and they also are less reliable than the basic vehicle. Hell, you can't even find a "stripped" model on a car lot anymore, even though they will likely outlast the tech laden junk.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/agitators. When my mother and dad wanted to get a new washer/dryer pair they gave their old Maytags to me. They worked just fine, but they didn't have some of the newer features. I used them through 10+ years and two houses until the washer started leaving rust stains on clothes. We went looking at the new stuff -- LG, etc. While there we ran into a friend of my wife's, a younger woman with 3 kids. She was shopping for a new washer too, because her "old" machine was 5 years old and acting up! What was it, we asked. LG. The electronics were going wonky and circuit board replacment was expensive, so, time for a new one.

We just looked at each other.

Then we went home, found out who was still making fully mechanical washing machines, went to the store, bought a Speed Queen pair. I expect they'll outlast me.

Just out of curiosity... what kind of "features" make a washing machine more attractive?

We got a smokin' deal on a dishwasher, something with a lot of features. In the ten years we've owned it we've used four of the fifteen function buttons, two of them being the Start and Cancel buttons. I've found this to be the same with everything bought with a lot of features. We end up using the same buttons all the time because those are the choices that do the job. I like the dishwasher. It wasn't cheap and it washes dishes better than any other we've had... but it really only needs four buttons, and if the features were combined in a single Start button it would only need two.

I chose the speed queens because of the minimal features and mechanical timers, more durable and less to break.
I chose my Triumph bonnevile motorcycle because of its minimal electronics and simplicity.
I wanted a tacoma trd sport but all I could get at the time was the trd off road and it has features I'll never use.
Minimalism is a good thing sometimes.

I don't get all the added features.... why not a simple machine with a few options. I don't want or need 30 different wash cycles or dry cycles. Same with a dishwasher... :annoyed: Plus in the front loading washing machine, I want enough water!!! Make it like the one we had overseas - water about 1/4 the way up the door - really not that much, since there are clothes in there, but enough to know there is enough water to actually clean the clothes.

We are spoiled! My dad was the youngest of 7 kids all raised on a 60 acre homestead. Outdoor one holer, hand pump well, REA came and installed 1 light in the kitchen a year before my dad went off to college. When he left, they disconnected from REA so they could give dad the $1.50 a month the light cost.
BTW, all 7 kids went to college…chemists, engineers, and a minister. Yep we live a spoiled life. JMO!
I left for college at 18. Didn’t get a TV set until 33 or 34 yo. Discovered I still didn’t need one and sold it. Now I can’t live without my iPad and iPhone. Crazy world!

Nice cook. I like chicken thighs, so versatile.

Me too DST usually takes me two weeks to get used to the change. Seems like I am tired a lot.

Good morning, everyone. Lots to do today but I think I will go to the movies tomorrow. Just not up to it today and I want to cook a chicken on the smoker today.

Got the spinach and a row of beets in the ground yesterday, so the moisture will be good to kick start my garden.
