I get it and so does my wife, that’s why she hates going to Ace, HD or Lowe’s with me. The local Ace is only a mile from the house and I can’t walk 10 steps into store without someone asking if they can help me. I usually tell them “No thanks, I’m just going to wander around.” I love their hardware section, any nut, bolt, screw or washer you could possibly need and all on the honor system. Find what you need, bag it and write the quantities and prices on the bag. I’ve never cheated on the system and there’s been more than a few times Ive found nuts or bolts in the wrong bin and put them where they belong. Throw in the free grilled burgers and dogs like yesterday and I could make a day of it.

    Best of luck with that!

Sorry guys for being so angry about my world I use to love so much changing for the worst…IMO! I will try to only discuss the good. Just have to bite my tongue and look harder.

Great day outside yesterday with my daughter’s dog. Makes me miss my GSP. Turned and raked two more 4x8 garden beds now ready for Mother’s Day plantings. Turned an 8x10’ cutting flower bed for the better half (although I’ll end up planting and cutting it, LOL!) My old back isn’t doing so great this morning. I think I’ll just have a day of rest and enjoy the sun.

Get out there and enjoy your life! It will be over too soon!

I miss the old hardware store at the top of our street. Winston Hardware, we went to church with the owner. Nails and screws by the pound, the smell, sweeping compound on the floor, a free candy when I was little. When I got older dad would send me for parts with a list, “I’ll put it on the tab”

Talking about hardware stores (I love them!) brings back memories. My family would go on a vacation mostly camping out every summer as soon as school was out. Dad and I would always drive into the small towns and visit the local family owned hardware stores. Dad would almost always buy a little something and buy my sis and me a 5 cent bottled Coca Cola out of a machine with a lever. Fun memories strolling through the store sipping my cola.
Today I cannot go into a hardware store in less than a half hour of looking! I guess it’s a male mental illness…LOL!

The building at the top of my street had 3 businesses. Front was the hardware, then the locksmith, and then the beauty parlor. The beauty parlor had a pop machine. You would slide the top to one side and get your pop, then put your nickel in, the honor system. They never came up short

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/ranklers. We survived the rain yesterday pretty well. I don't think we got as much as the forecasters were whinging on about, but the ground was already pretty saturated so the streams are still running fast etc. Sun's out today, I think I'll go dig the convertible out of storage.

This made me laugh! Whenever we go into Lowe's my wife says "we are NOT going to look at light bulbs!" She treats that store the way I treat the CVS; straight to the aisle that has what she needs, grab it, get out. I always have to check a few more aisles because one never knows when that thing you didn't even know you needed might go on sale!

Sorry to hear it! We had all rain, followed by pretty strong winds as the weather cleared. Power blinked once but came back on its own. Even so I still thought about how fortunate we are to have the backup generator.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Good day for mowing and putzing yesterday, but I hate my yard until it fills in. Looks like crap. Neighbors mowed weeds are all green..... takes into April to get back, but I am impatient this year; probably because I was so slow in getting it done with the ribs. Oh well.... Grey day - good for laundry, cleaning, and watching a race.

COTA is a fun track to watch. Only real complaints were that NASCAR really needs to define out of bounds, because you could clearly see all the rubber in the areas they called the penalties. Suppose we'll see some of that today. Only other complaint was that truck that lost the WHOLE REAR AXLE was a back marker, so no goood camera shots! Don't see that every day!

Listen to @Devious6 folks - sage advice.

I noticed that also during both races. There was no real defined out of bounds . Still trying to figure out how that rear axle broke free from the truck

Good morning. Today is the wife's birthday and she requested blueberry pancakes and regular sliced bacon. It was a good breakfast. Going out to an early dinner and music this afternoon.

Yes! Dazell’s hardware in the town where I grew up. The place was huge by kid standards. Wooden floors were worn from the foot traffic, smell of pipe smoke, oils and God only knows what else, probably insecticides. I was maybe 12 or 13 when I went there with my dad when he needed some galvanized pipe for the furnace. The old guy (again by kid standards) there showed me how they cut and threaded pipe right there in the back aisle of the store. Try doing that in today’s Lowe’s or Home Depot.

    Afternoon all:

Happy birthday to your wife Tom! :hbd:

Talk about the old hardware stores!
At one time we had 4 in our town and one just outside of it, now we have none, the last one closed up this past fall. We still have a couple in neighboring towns, one is second generation, and the other one is third generation, probably just a matter of time before they are gone also.
Just like the old corner and country stores, there was a bunch of them around here, there may be one that still exists near Long Pond, but I haven't been in it in quite a while, for the most part they are gone, different times!

My first job was in a family hardware store. I made $1.60 an hour- that was the minimum wage in 1974.
I stocked, swept, mixed paint, changed ballasts, helped customers, etc.; also had to endure nonstop Muzak.
The co-workers were great, especially one of my classmates, she could really fill out a sweater.
Summer of '75 before I went to college, the minimum wage was $2.00 an hour.
    I remember for a 40 hour week I'd net (after withholding) $66.00!
