Yes, and I looked at several pics I have of ours, and they don't do my opinions justice. Ford tractor grey (which I can see Henry not changing paints!) is just a tad "softer" than naval grey, but my old motor is so beat, I can't justify my opinion at all. More exciting reading in my future. I wish FAA would allow us to have the engine plate "restored"!

I'm in the middle of a move so my book is packed up and unavailable, but if I recall correctly, Ford built something less than 15% of the R-2800s; most were "B" engines and if I recall correctly, a few were early "A" models.

OMG - Google says Ford built 54,000 of the R-2800! Those B-24s ate up 4 a piece! Going to be some fun facts as I go along!

Hmmm, maybe my memory is faulty; off the top of my head I remember stats suggesting Ford only built about 17,000 R-2800s, however, they built a boat load of R-1830s. The B-24 with four R-2800s would have been a beast, however, it wasn't to be; the Liberator flew with the aforementioned P&W R-1830s.

I was able to have a brunch, that is what the festival billed it as, with Robert Earl Keen this past May at the Songwriters Festival in Key West. A great vacation.

I could use a few smart-ass remarks, but knowledge is power, and books are knowledge so I believe the book will enrich your life. Happy reading.

Good morning. Going to defrost the freezer today and I have a chair yoga class. Tonight, my son is at an open mic night and other family members will be joining us. I might try to fit in a quick shopping trip this afternoon.

Good morning. Been watching videos about aftermarket exhausts. Some sound "okay"..but i think I will stay stock. I know...boring, but I had a 2012 Tundra with the big (5.7) v8 and the previous owner installed aftermarket exhaust...and wow...that was MUSIC to me. Just not feeling it with the V6.
Time to make some eggs before I make the donuts. Have a great day!

Going to be a beautiful day to be outside today with a high of 76! WOOHOO! I’ll be out in it a lot today! Watering veges, flowers, a couple of trees away from the lawn…an enjoyable day for sure!
Sorry to read the East is going to get the brutal heat we have been having though.
What ever try to get out for a bit and get your vitamin D. Above all, make it a great day!

Cold front moving through slowly this week. Forty degrees this morning. The morning walk was brisk. Nice to have a June that isn't burning up the garden like the last few.

 :bananadead: sixtys/wannabes/aviated readers. I'm frankly amazed that more than one person has that book, let alone more than one in this forum!

Remarkably the dealership can get to my car in less than a week. The indy guy I usually use said he used to enjoy doing the subframes at his shop; however there must have been some kind of event that caused the manufacturer to extend the warranty on the subframe, but only if the work is done by a dealer. So now he doesn't do them anymore. I guess the indy was replacing them at owner's cost before, OUCH.

To clarify: it's the rear suspension subframe, not the unibody structure, that rusts through. Unbolt it from the car, unbolt the suspension stuff from it, swap in a new frame, and Bob's yer uncle. I'm told that the issue is due to a combination of poor design that allowed water to pool near the mounting point -- which is where a lot of mechanical stress goes through the part -- and inadequate coating of the interior of the hollow subframe itself. I don't think it needed to see salt, just wet conditions and sufficient use. Of course salt would accelerate things.

Send that east please! We're at the start of a longish heat wave that might even get us into triple digits.

Your memory is quite good! Liberator indeed flew with 1830's. I was putting separate things together in my head....
