A little something every chance we get.
:sawzall: Well, what's a smoker Mod without pics? Not a mod, I tell you! Still working with BOA Credit for a refund - Masterbuilt has not answered any email/onliine contacts. No, they don't offer phone contact. So, the choice became buy a "real controller" that has high marks, or a new smoker. The controller was cheaper. Their on line information is for "young people", but if you chat or email, they are just great to deal with. I got a FireBoard 2, with the needed cords for "plug and play" to my existing stuff. And a mount. About $285 all told, but a lot less than a new smoker, and I still like what the Gravity can do with charcoal, wood, and SEAR temps!

Here's the culprit, and what it looked like turned on.

    20240711_115236.jpg
    20240623_143759.jpg

The smoker assumes the "service position", because it's impossible to service that controller otherwise. Take the grills out, and it's not too bad, just a pain.

    20240711_130955.jpg

Removing the controller leaves a hole, that I will make a cover plate for, and stick the magnetic base on.

    20240711_131003.jpg
    20240711_144801.jpg

And this is the box of goodies. Only hard part I didn't really do was to make a better mount for the replacement ambient probe. Now that it works, a quick drill, the provided bracket, and sheet metal screw on the wall will work. I always like more instructions for when I have questions...honestly, it was a breeze to register, connect to the device, to the house net, and be running.

    20240711_131329.jpg
    20240711_131313.jpg

So, plunk the device on it's little holder, plug everything in, and give it a test firing. The display is a lot more visible than the camera thinks, even in the HOT HOT sun.

    20240711_145913.jpg

So, out of the box - IT WORKED! And it even runs the fan with speed control, not just full on. Has a bunch of features that only @95SLE would love! Now that it works, I am going to make a cutout on my blanking plate for the plug ins, since they recommend removing the unit when not in use, even though it's "sealed, weather resistant, and coated inside". So fine, three connections, and they won't get lost hanging right there. I will have to get some ribs this weekend, and give it a shot!

    :thumbsup::thumbsup:

    Evening all:

    Good job Kurt!

Just noticed a "FOR SALE" sign on a property just up the road from me that was purchased and built on just a few years ago. Decent home with a 3 car garage, but not a mansion and it is tucked well back off the road on 16 acres, listed at 700K, 140K down and $3,500 a month if the rest is financed, I would venture to guess that eventually I will have a new neighbor from either NY or NJ!
Heck, I would have listed it for 850K and added, close to Beltzville Lake and Blue Mt. ski resort, that alone should be worth the additional $$$$$$!

Hope you and the misses get better quickly.

@Oldie2007 Nice job with the upgrade. Lots of teams on the BBQ circuit use Fireboard. A reliable product.

Good morning. We visited both my cousin and her husband yesterday. Rich, the husband, was doing well and very coherent. He even cracked a funny joke response to a question. He is eating solid fod and has a healthy appetite. Our next visit will include a crabcake, fries, coleslaw and a Pepsi, his favorite dine out lunch meal. My cousin was doing really well and is doing PT at the rehab center, her left side is all black and blue from the fall. She also broke a bone in her foot from the fall. Ironically, she is on soft foods and her husband is doing well on solid foods. With the swallowing conditions from the last hospital visits for both my wife and I were pleasantly surprised. We will be visiting again on Saturday.

Looks like we will finally have rain today. If it is still raining t 2:30 today I will roll out the awning to use the smoker. Sort of cleaning out the fridge and freezer for dinner tonight. Going to have chicken legs and thighs, turkey kielbasa, and a dry rubbed pork chop, along with M&C and a salad, that should be a decent dinner.

Good morning everyone! A good day to stay inside at somewhere between 102 and 106 degrees today! YIKES! May set a new record.
Unloaded my compost from my 5’x8’ UT yesterday. Wore me out, but nice to know I’m staying in good enough shape I can do it.
Kettlebell day today in the cool basement! After that probably nap time. LOL! Maybe a bit of reloading to get ready for a range trip with a bud next week.

    Have a great day!

This is so awesome! My nephew was just telling me how his smoker controller died and new ones are unavailable anywhere at any cost. I sent him a link, hopefully he can benefit from your information. Thanks!
